As someone new to being in a wheelchair this helped me out so much. I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user so there’s still a ton of anxiety I feel when people see me walk from my car to get my chair. I can’t really walk more than a hundred feet without tons of pain and fatigue and risk of falling, hence my need for a chair. Thanks for showing some ways to work out on a chair and use from experience.

As a fellow ambulatory wheelchair user here's what I can tell you. Don't be afraid to stand or walk if you want to or need to because people are going to watch either way. And if people ask why you're using a wheelchair since you can walk you can just ignore them if they're being rude. Sometimes people are just curious because they forget that not all wheelchair users are wheelchair bound. My go-to answer for those is something along the lines of I have chronic fatigue so I might be fine walking now but if I didn't have my wheelchair then I would probably collapse at some point and I wouldn't be able to get back home. But you can also just answer that not all wheelchair users are paraplegic and that it's none of their business. It takes a while to get used to everything, but you'll get there. I've been an ambulatory wheelchair user for almost 3 and a half years now (and one of those was me stupidly thinking that I didn't need my wheelchair anymore so I ended up having to be literally carried by my friends and skipping entire weeks of classes because my crutches were just not enough at that point). It's a struggle, but the most important part is realizing that the wheelchair is going to bring you so much more freedom than you would otherwise have. People are people, and there will always be someone to judge you, whatever you do, so don't let that stop you.

@@hopegate9620 I wondered why he didn't try to train his legs more if he could move them. But what you say here makes perfect sense. I have a back issue and the more I bend and stress my muscles that support my back the worse the pain and mobility becomes. It's not a disability but I can understand how if you scale it up I can definitely see the fatigue issue. I've been stuck plenty of times when I overdue things and I cant even imagine everyday like that. I've had to use a walker on a few occasions when I really fuck up my back and it's incredibly difficult to stand or do anything. Luckily I get my mobility back to almost completely normal from rest along with keeping mobile. It's a fine balance of moving enough yet not too much when I'm fatigued. if I wake up with significant pain I have to carefully get up and slowly start to walk so as to get things to warm up and lock into place without injuring myself worse. People really have a hard time understand when it looks like your ok but you're not. I run into it too cause I look like I'm able to lift heavy things but I really shouldn't cause of my back. I work a labor job so people are always expecting me to do the heavy lifting because I'm biger and younger. A lot of times I end up doing it anyway because it's harder to try to explain my issues and get them to understand. Then I usually have to suffer for it the next day lol. It sucks that people would give you crap about being able to move your legs and needing a chair. That's messed up. I hope most people are just curious and not just being jerks. Stay strong guys.

I got teary eyed a few times throughout the vid, not gonna lie damn. Woody is absolutely incredible and Will you are just awesome for showing a brief day in the life of a wheelchair user. Seriously one of the best videos I’ve seen on KZbin in a long time. Man Woody is just amazing, seriously, the mental fortitude and positivity from this man. Also not to mention the insane condition, muscularity, strength and athleticism. Incredible video. Thank you Will 🙏

After losing just half a finger in an accident, I remember being distraught about not being able to play instruments, eat, work out etc. Then time had its way and I bounced back doing it all and thought it was a nice feeling to be back at it. But now I see these massively inspiring personalities and my predicament seems negligible considering how driven and mutually supportive these people are. Much love and support everyone!

I knew a man who wasn't even able to fully breathe on his own and sat in an electric wheelchair. Some rare muscle weakness illness. Not ALS where patients are usually adults but rather some condition he had since birth. He used to write blog and once wrote that he doesn't feel like his missing out anything.

I’m so glad you did this Will! My grandpa was paralyzed from a virus in his spine later in life. I learned so much from him being in a wheelchair & the lack of accessibility, respect & understanding. My grandpa started to walk again after years of physical therapy & even though he needs a walker now, he works out everyday & has a great outlook on life. He’s a great grandpa & he’s actually on a fishing trip in mammoth right now! Also, I agree that truck scene in the beginning. It scared me!!!
