Yeah maybe Will shouldn't get a cookie for treating a man like a man but I just got through a vid from a top influencer (Kelly Wasaka) who treated a 30 year old dwarf lady like a baby or novelty. Disgusting. In this case Will didn't condescend to Sam by putting up with his bullshit or even phrasing it in a gentle way. (I'm 5'3" and have always loved being short and _hated_ it when tall people indulge short self-pity and have zero patience for it; alternatively, for things I _have_ been insecure about, when I was young I was frequently guilty of venting my doubts when complimented.) Some short people are so in their own heads that they forget when they're in an arena when their structure is clearly a genetic _gift_ . If you're built with huge delts no one should have to put up with your ingratitude for your gift when complimented. The _only_ appropriate response to a compliment is "Thank You." Anything else is disrespect to the other person and yourself.

@@salvadorromero9712 I disagree. It depends on the circumstance, your beliefs and their beliefs. It is not necessarily "ingratitude", and instead there are many reasons to why they might say these things. His self-deprecating talk could stem from various factors and to assume that it must be from venting his doubts and "insecurities" is quite bold. Sometimes people just talk the way they talk because they have been used to it or like to talk that way. They don't necessarily mean any harm. It'd be boring if anyone would express things or feelings the same way, wouldn't it? Though, I would like to mention that this does not mean I am saying that he does not have insecurities. He might as well say these things because he does underestimate his strength, whether it is influenced from his mental insecurities as mentioned in the video, other people, his goals or wherever else. After all, he did mention how people might look at him and be unimpressed solely due to his height despite his strength and physique, and it can easily be speculated that people likely have caused insecurities to him, unless he has been able to suppress those and he just has a very humble way of talking and thinking or perhaps even an attempt for more objective thinking to perhaps suppress his mental insecurities or even other people's subjective opinions in a way or as a defense-mechanism. Perhaps even a mix of all. Regardless, I would like to say that in general, that I am in agreement that it is polite to say thank you to a compliment (although I do not believe it was necessarily intended to be disrespectful and do not believe it necessarily showed ingratitude), but the way we talk and think are so much influenced by our environment that something like this is very vague. The best we can do is show Sam support and give him the words he needs to hear the most if that's what it seems like he needs. Ultimately, I do not think it is nice to brush it off as "ingratitude" as these things are much more complex as far as my opinion goes on this matter.

@salvadorromero9712 I agree with you but while I am not 5'3 or short, there were very few times growing up where I was accepted as an equal or even treated like a person. Anytime someone says something nice to me or compliments me to this day at 38 years old, I still begin to disagree or correct them for them thinking that way. It isn't intentionally and I have gotten a lot better at saying thank you. But for me at least, it is due to a lot of trauma. It might be the case with him as well. He seems nice otherwise, it is unfortunate that he would feel like less than others when he is so strong and smart.

Maybe I have a heart of stone but yeah it doesn't bleed much for people in my position. When people remark on my luck and gifts I just take it as a compliment and a chance to put my perspective on my own accomplishments in check. Yeah if you are obviously gifted (in physique or anything else) people will underestimate the work you put in. Boo hoo. It beats the alternative. Stop being ungrateful. If people assume you are coasting because you make it look easy, just react by: learning the valuable lesson that ultimately _you_ have to know _yourself_ and that you are being true to your own values and potential and not being spoiled; and by letting others' underestimation of you spur you to work that much harder to dispel all doubts. Even if you never do, the result will be that you showed proper gratitude for your gifts by not wasting them and working to have take you as far as they can.
