Malaysian here! It's totally fine to have peanut butter/strawberry with roti bom. It's normal for kids (or even some adults) to eat roti with sugar or condensed milk if they can't eat spicy, or if they just feel like it 😆

The rice cube is called nasi himpit or ketupat (wrapped in leaves version). You can also see it on Lontong and from Satay stalls. It can be addictive when dipped in a good peanut curry sauce that comes with satay.

that fish noodle is called asam laksa... soup made outta mackerel meat, tamarind and bunch of spices. gotta put some cucumber, pineapple and mint leaves in there. ok. sounds pretty insane but its normal.

i guess this is true to other south east asian countries but heavy breakfasts came from the fact that in olden days Malaysians are hard labour workers and a lot of people are working as fishermen or in plantations and also mines. so they need heavy breakfasts to keep them energized for the day's work. Nowadays we work in offices but still eat heavy breakfasts lmao.

Roti boom is a member of roti canai big family. Roti canai being the basic, plain version. Then theres roti boom, a sweeter version of roti. Then theres roti telur, a version with egg. I'm a local and I don't eat or buy food when I see all the dishes are pre-cooked and placed openly in open air and in an outdoor environment. I just don't think it's hygienic or clean enough. I don't understand why food stall or restaurant owners don't want to cover up their food. Also, that buffet is cheap but the food isn't good quality.
