My supervisor at work is a single mom and I sometimes babysit for her. She adopted two kids, both with extreme trauma that has royally messed up their emotional growth. I only charge her about $10/hour, and sometimes I'll just come over for a few hours and help out for free. She deserves it. I've never seen a more hardworking woman.

Jackson trying to console his frazzled mama actually made me cry. That was so sweet and reminded me of heart to heart moments with my single mom. I think people sometimes look down upon single moms like they got themselves into their situation or they are not doing enough (or just aren't enough). It's just not true or right. I appreciate that Hannah took the time to understand the surface of what it's like parenting alone.

Hannah - I literally just scanned videos last night and found videos titled “don’t date single moms”... bc we are broken goods... basically we ruined our lives... granted the guys you can tell are misguided and some even just plain absurd and all, funny enough single🤣... as a single mom I truly appreciate this video... often my friends ask how I do it or keep it together... umm I don’t... I work full time and my house is a hot mess...but it’s the best and my kids and I are a circus of fun...and yes I have help but I also have times where I don’t...my oldest is like this too...she just always hands over the hugs bc some days she just knows...awesome video

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your comment. Kids see and understand a lot more than they're given credit for. There was a lot of times my single mom was struggling, but even as a child I recognized that just being nice to her or listening helped both of us. This is one of those videos that makes you cry even though it's not particularly sad or heartwarming, it's just familiar.

You handled the situation well with your youngest child. My youngest did the same things at that age and it really was so difficult to stay calm. The best thing you can do is exactly what you're doing- giving him an answer and not changing your answer no matter how hard he pushes for it...or cries for it. That's teaching him that he can trust you because what you say is what you do! I don't envy you but I can tell you that it gets better!

My mom raised my sister and I on her own from the time I was 2-14 years old. She worked 3 jobs to pay the bills: her M-Thur daytime job paid the bills, her Friday job was for groceries, and her saturday&sunday job paid for daycare for us kids. I don’t know how she did it. I’m a military wife and mom of three kids. Single mom here...I had a meltdown today...she’s 2yo..kids are tough when they are that age because no matter how you reason with them they don’t understand 😭
@heliagrey6 жыл бұрын
One of my sons is Wyatt’s age, and honestly, it’s so good to see Hannah being so honest about how normal , & yes, frustrating those “fixation” meltdowns can be. You feel awful, but you also can’t engage or try to make their every whim come true- because that’s not good for them, either. Yesterday my son fell apart... because I moved an empty plate. Yikes.

When I was 2 my mom and dad split up, I have two older sisters, one is three years older than me, the other is nine years older than me. When my parents split up, I was with my mom most of the time, but we would go to our dads on Wednesdays and every other weekend, we also had our grandparents to help and my mom eventually moved all of us in together, because she was going back to college while having two other jobs. We were so lucky though that our grandparents were there for us and helping, because they helped a lot, and just to put this in, my mother is an amazing mother, she does everything she can to help up and try’s her hardest, but my father is the problem, he doesn’t pay child support and used our college funds to pay for his home renovations, so please don’t tell me that she isn’t trying her hardest, because she is.

The moajority of single parents don't have the option to take their child to work and would end up having to call off work that day. Losing the income for the day and risking their jobs. Also, most single parents don't have a partner they can text and vent to through out the week when things get rough. It's a very solitary, isolating experience.

There's no real answer to the "what do you do with your kids" situation. My mom just used to take us to work with her on breaks and have us help her - she was a housekeeper at a hotel at the time, so she would have us help her clean the rooms and fold the laundry. When we were old enough, we were latch and key kids. We would get video games when she got her tax returns to help keep us occupied as well. I think one of the last points you made in the video about Jackson is something that could be applied to a lot of kids in single parent households - kids that grow up in single parent households end up as resilient and mature, particularly if they are an older sibling, as they step up to help out. They become mini adults in the household. Not by choice, but by the fate of the circumstance. Single parents are actual superheroes.

My mom had to be a be a single mom for 4 years until my dad could come to us. She raised a four month old baby (me) to a four year old toddler and a four year old toddler into an eight year old girl (my sister) by herself. My mom had already been going through anxiety and depression, she tried her best and she did well. My dad was able to send money to us, which helped, but we were really discriminated where we lived which made my mom need to find a way to get us around while avoiding those people. My mom couldn't drive while she was alone but she stayed strong until my dad came and were living happily now. We moved away from Mexico and went back to the US. (I was born in the US but for an emergency we went back to Mexico so my mom could see her parents. Mexico was too expensive so my dad had to stay behind so that we could save some money to live in Mexico. )I love my mom so much and I'm grateful for her staying strong. She raised two strong girls 🙂
