The reason bitwig seemed so unimpressive to him was because he used Bitwig as Ableton instead of using Bitwig as Bitwig

@@SR1Records Sadly you can't use Bitwig as Ableton. For my workflow the inability to solo / mute multiple selected tracks via keyboard shortcuts prevents to be a full replacement. The workflow with the inspector for those basic tasks is just not practically and every other DAW solved this better. The irony is that this wouldn't even take a day to fix. And as much i like the Bitwig features, i won't switch until those and some other basic workflow issues are fixed. I know Bitwigs approach is different but in order to get a bigger audience some workflow options are needed instead of hyper focussing on endless modulation possibilities.

Bitwig was developed by Ex-Ableton developers. That's one reason why it has some similiarities. I prefer the workflow of BW to Ableton.

yep they felt like they where hindered by the ways ableton was becoming rather stagnant and set in it's way. bitwig is kind of like the more 'experimental' version of Ableton with some 'hindsight' workflow changes that can only be made when redeveloping software from the ground up.

The number one killer feature in Bitwig is perfect delay compensation. Ableton can't compensate plugins delay correctly
@Elesiane
@Elesiane 2 жыл бұрын
Can you describe delay compensation to me pls? I did a quick google search but still don't fully understand
@tonogram
@tonogram 2 жыл бұрын
@@Elesiane Most plugins take at least a fraction of a millisecond to process audio. If this delay isn't compensated for, it can cause things to lose sync with one another. Delay compensation is when your DAW keeps track of how long each plugin takes and adjusts the timing of tracks so that everything stays in sync.

Recently switched to Bitwig, once you get used to it the workflow is so much nicer, smoother and you have a lot of features that ableton didnt straight up copy yet :D If youre looking for a DAW that can basically do anything out of the box and is only limited by your skill, not itself, your plugins or your samples, its definitely worth its price.
@jujasname

Huh. Actually Bitwig copied lots of stuff from ableton. It's a low budget version of it, because some developers of Ableton left and went for Bitwig.
@doppelt8255
@doppelt8255 2 жыл бұрын
@@jujasname Thing is, as Bitwig came out in 2014 and, as you correctly pointed out, was started out by ableton developers, of course its going to share a lot of commonality regarding basic DAW functionality and layout. But I wouldnt necessarily call it a low budget version because of that. For one, DAWs copy each other permanently, its been going on between FL and Ableton for a long time already, so when Bitwig brought ALOT of Quality of Life improvements they all got copied (because why not, right?), on the other hand the modulator system and Poly Grid of Bitwig make Ableton look like a dinosaur abacus, not to mention its superior sampler, better MIDI interface, and so many more QoL features I couldnt even list them. I have been working with ableton for 5 years, and Im not going back. I highly recommend anyone giving it a shot, you get a 30-day trial for free.

Bitwig is a mix between Live, cubase, and reason basically. It doesn't have the crippling issues live has. The workflow is lighting fast. Sandboxing prevents plugins from taking down the project which is a blessing for live performances. Thavius beck, one of the top live instructors in the world as well as one of the top Bitwig instructors told me Live does 75% of what Bitwig can do and Bitwig can do 99% of what Live can't do. It's also really good for live performances. Some say it's better than Live for live performances, but I doubt that. Live was designed for live performances, it's in their DNA.

For those who don't know what Bitwig is about, it basically comes down to, "If you can imagine it, you can build it". I've built a dynamic EQ with native EQ using the automation parameters available, I've recreated IM Pusher, I've re-imagined Serum and built it the way I'd prefer inside the Grid. The possibilities are really endless with this thing. Check out some of the crazy stuff Polarity built inside Bitwig, and his presets come included with Bitwig.

I bought bitwig because ableton started crashing on me a lot. I found bitwig was also mac silicon native and it has great crash protection. I like the dual screen layout. You can make the tracks small and you can see a bunch on one screen. I recently tried Ableton again, after 11.1 was released. I can’t go back to it. Another argument for bitwig is that it was built on much newer code and will be future proofed as the old daws age. Anyway it’s worth trying, I think any ableton user will like it.

being late to the party. Bitwig is miles ahead of Ableton and it is such a shame ppl have such preconceived thoughts about it before they even try it (not talking about Bishu) It is different for sure and it takes like anything a bit of a learning curve especially after using Ableton for years. I feel sometimes the "DAW wars" is stupid , something like the OS wars (Windows is better than Mac Linux etc), It is a tool like any other If you know how to use it you will get great results as long as you're willing to put a bit of time into learning it. The whole concept, the sandboxing, the use of your computer resources etc is amazing. The modulators for sure are its main strength , you don't have to use them but they are so cool. The level of customization of the sound goes beyond any expectations one may have. Does it have bugs? ...duh lol Is it the perfect DAW?...not likely but again it is a matter of preference and more importantly habit. It is still missing a proper slicing mode in the sampler(out of the top of my head) among other things but it is still heavy developed and prolly will get it at one point. Bishu's videos are a mix of fun and education lolz Watching him struggling to sidechain or automate was priceless 🤣 I'd say to force yourself to use it for a week or 2 exclusively and you will dump Ableton 100% guaranteed 🤣.Thank you

The most slept on DAW would be Tracktion Waveform. Insanely good workflow once you get used to it.

I appreciate Traktion for making another nice DAW available on Linux. I ended up going with Bitwig because I was looking for something more like Ableton, but I could definitely see Logic users preferring Waveform.

@@mudi2000a Maybe a year ago, but today bitwig's piano roll is completely unparalleled, they really pushed the boundaries of midi with their 4.0 update

Hey, I noticed your mic gain isn't dialed in as you are peaking... I would love to make you a vocal chain. Let me know if your interested. I wouldn't charge you.
