I Tried Boxing in Mexico for 30 Days (here's how it went...)

For the past 30 days, I trained boxing in Mexico. Mexico has more boxing world champions than any country on earth and I wanted to see if I have what it takes to learn to box like a Mexican! I have always admired Mexican boxers for their speed, power, aggression, and most of all- their heart. Boxing is a hugely popular sport in Mexico and to have the opportunity to learn more about the country that we call home from inside of a boxing ring was a true honor. It is one things to watch it on TV or from the stands, but it is a completely different feeling to be standing toe to toe against an opponent inside of the ring. Of course I learned a lot physically along the way and improved a great deal, but more importantly, I learned a lot of life-changing lessons.
Thank you to Pato and his team for training me! They tried their best! 😂

True i've been trying to study the greats my self as a small guy like El Finito Lopez. And oh my god getting the timing and precision with each movement almost feels inhuman. And i'm also practicing other hard styles like High Guard, Peekaboo, Philly Shell, Low Guard, Cross Guard so on and so forth. Each one has there own challenges to overcome. But man combining them together gives me a thrill. Like throwing Thomas Hearns style Flicker Jabs out of a Philly Shell to confuse people. The options are truly endless in boxing way more then people make it out. Boxers like Lomachenko show us what happens when you combine as many skills as you can attain and grab. Kind of like that whole Bruce Lee philosophy of "take what is useful for you and discard what is useless". As well as the whole "be like water" quote. You have to flow your tools together as one on reaction without even having to think about it. Always having multiple defensive and offensive plays and tools in hand at all times. Never giving an opening never dropping your guard. Luring your opponent into a false sense of security only to switch up at last second.

I wish I could give you 10 thumbs up! Not because I’m particularly a boxing fan, but because of how your love for and connectedness to Mexico comes through. I find so many foreigners in Mexico are more likely to highlight the “foreignness” they feel in the country. For me - as part of a Mexican family for a few decades through marriage - Mexico also truly feels like home.

Most people just see the brutality of boxing, but when you get in the ring a few times you know that if you don’t think and have awareness, you’ll get brutalized! Technique is a set of skills. Instinct and other inner feelings are factors too, but knowing the moves gets you much further along.

Being Mexican tho, i never backed down from a challenge.. Reason i was hated but feared..

My sentiments exactly. I think a very large percentage of USA /Canadian viewers have kin in some parts of Europe, Far East, Middle East, China, Italy etc. living in a state of fear of nuclear war and terrorist threats. But when it comes to interesting places to explore, Mexico, Central America, S, America will remain an interesting, adventurous study for years and years and hundreds of years to come. Heck there's still villages and pyramids being discovered and carved from jungles, tribes not yet discovered and people who celebrate life every day with music and dance just because they can. Welcome home Kennons and thank you.

I used to train in boxing just for fun. I respect anyone who is willing to step into the ring voluntarily knowing there's safety right outside those ropes. Boxing gave me confidence knowing that if I had to get into a physical altercation on the street, I could just remind myself that I'm the dumbass who made the conscious decision to get into a sport involving getting punched in the head. 😁 I've trained at WildCard Boxing in LA a few times. Freddy Roach laced me up and that was freaking awesome! Some of those guys in there are killers in the ring, so I didn't want to hang out there too long. 😅 You should be proud of yourself.

I tried boxing training in my 30's and I can say that is when I was in best physical shape ever. I'm no in my 60's and never forgot the training so I'm going back in shape. I wish more mexican people get the training just to be in good shape. Saludos from cdmx.

As a Mexican, we are proud of the resilience and respect, you showed in the ring. Let's be honest, those guys have been doing it for longer than you. Also, you should go for it and try the charro outfit on😂 you might just wind up liking it👍🏽 Thank you, 😊 🙏🏽

sparring with out having much experience with some one who has a lot more ( the short guy). Takes a lot of heart. you could have quit and walked away, but it looks like you actually tried and attempted to keep up. as a boxer my self. Respect to you.

I love boxing and have massive respect for boxers. One thing I just wanted to say is that we're not proud of you for the skills you've attained. We're proud of you both for trying new challenges and giving it your best. That is what encompasses the Mexican spirit. Face the facts man, you're Mexican through and through. ¡Viva México!

¡Bravo! Boxing gyms over here are brutal. I dare to say they are literally designed to make you quit the faster possible if you are not made for this. And you were able to keep it up! Shout out to you, bro.

Salute to you Greg💯. You did one of the top things many individuals (male & female) have wanted to do in life but haven't been able to. Yes, it was only 1month but you ROCKED that boxing dream, and if you continue at it for self-defense/ exercise you'll get better 💥👍. Practice makes perfect, and more focused overall. Thank you cuz stuff like this motivates me (& others 2) to keep trying & not giving up!💯! And , thanks for sharing & showing the good in Mexico & not only the bad stuff like US media & politicians do; & cause hatred against Mexico and of American-Mexican descent in the USA!! THANKS AGAIN AWESOME BADASS VIDEOS LIKE ALWAYS. GOD BLESS K🇲🇽🇺🇸K👍👍
