Pot roast is usually a chuck roast that is typically quite fatty, they didnt cook it long enough to render the fat

Those dumplings look like the best item. They remind me of how my grandma used to make dumplings for her chicken and dumpling soup. Legit just water, flour nd salt dough that she'd drop into the broth to cook with chicken. So simple and so good. What i wouldn't do to have her make it for me again 💖

I think you were expecting a sweet cornbread. This was a country style cornbread it’s not supposed to be sweet. It may have still been a bad batch, but I don’t think it was the cornbread you were expecting it to be

From my experience, cracker barrel doesn't salt their food. Without that season, it's nasty. However, that potroast, usually it is fork tender, cooked in the gravy, not gravy on top. It is hit or miss with the pot roast, too fatty or just right. I usually order the chicken and dumplings or the pot roast. Things have changed alot over the last 10 years, it's not as good as it use to be. I cook better than cracker barrel. So, I eat at home. I grew up watching my great grandmother and both my grandmothers. I learned from the best. Great southern Georgia cooking. Hope everyone is having a great day and a happy new year.

So the reason they dont salt their food much is because their clientele is mainly older people who have blood pressure issues and cant have much salt. It's easier for them to not salt it and let the customer salt it. You can add salt to food but you cant take it out

@@mrkoolaidism I know the reason, I have been on blood pressure medication since I was 17. I still have salt, but only on rice and grits. Other items I use only a pinch of salt for flavor enhancements. Where I come from, all ages eat there, but yes mostly older people during the day because everyone else is either in school or working. But I'm glad you are smart enough to know the reason they don't salt the food, most people would just complain. I was a dietitian for quite a few years, and most people are surprised by what they shouldn't have, they fuss about it being too bland.

I think your review is spot on actually and I retired from CB. I hate the meatloaf, the pot roast and most of all hate that cornbread! Love the chicken fried chicken and could eat an entire plate of their mac and cheese! They used to have a fantastic grilled chicken sandwich on sourdough but of course they discontinued it. Haven’t even got to the video yet but wanted to say I worked at Cracker Barrel for 10 years. Lost my job September 27th 2021 but they never even told me! I didn’t realize it till October, just before Halloween, from the operator at corporate! I had been off because of Covid and they only had half staff at the time. I have walked into 1 one time since and had a panic attack. Never been back.

Cracker Barrel's corn bread is real southern type that is not sweet. When I was growing up the sweet yellow corn bread was always referred to "Yankee Corn bread"

I tried to love Cracker Barrel. Last time we went I waited an inordinately long time for a takeout order that I’d ordered from home, online, and showed up for at the “will be ready by” time. I opened the lid on my salad and saw a hair standing straight up out of the center. It looked like a cat hair or a fiber from an angora sweater. I was disturbed, but I removed it and started eating. Two bites later I found another, and then another. 😳 Needless to say I stopped eating. My children had matching kids’ orders of chicken tenders. Except they weren’t. One order had two tenders and the other two had three. That’s a no-go. How do I evenly divide 8 tenders for 3 kiddos? 😂 They also failed to give us utensils on a takeout order we were eating in the car, and then they ignored my message to customer service when I sent them photos of the hairs in my salad. I’ve never had such a bad experience. It’s so embarrassingly terrible, I feel ashamed recounting it! 😂

Growing up the chicken n dumplings were my life! Also for breakfast I used to always get the sunrise sampler cause you get a little bit of everything. Cracker Barrel was just a part of life growing up in Tennessee. We even went there for thanksgiving dinner sometimes 😂 just super nostalgic now

I wish you could taste my granny's jalapeno cornbread. It has jalapenos, obviously, creamed corn, and lots of cheese. It's so moist and not really that hot because she takes most of the jalapeno seeds out. The crust gets really crunchy because of the cheese and it being cooked in a cast iron skillet. So yum

If you need a steak knife to cut a pot roast it is badly undercooked. Also the meat should have a lot of intramuscular fat but the edge fat should be trimmed for Americans. It looked just awful and pot roast is a favorite of mine usually. I would have sent that back.

Cracker Barrel is SO overrated! Nearly everything is super bland and unseasoned. As a southerner, they should be ashamed to call that country cooking. I will say most of their chicken items are pretty decent. And yes, the bread is trash. Thanks for the review because I do have a family member who likes it and I'm forced to go there every once in a while.
