I used to do the same thing. "MOB" is the term for your kickflip style. Here's how you fix it : Find a ledge that's between 10" -14" tall. Practice doing kickflip to nose stall on it, everyday if possible. We aren't trying to kickflip to nose slide. Just straight, perpendicular to the ledge, kickflip to nose stall. Don't ever do a kickflip on flat ground for at least a year. Only kickflip nose stalls. Period. You need ( will have to) change your foot position as well. Try watching PJ Ladds Wonderful Horrible Life. He puts his front foot centered, but at a very steep angle (pointed forward). This made a big difference for me. Also, you may want to mess around with your back foot position. I found that moving my back foot slightly forward (toe side) , close to where I would place it for a 360 flip, helped me land all bolts much better. But, I'm not saying that you necessarily have the same problem. Just something to play with if that's an issue. The reason you can't do kick flips on flat ground while learning the kickflip nose stall is that your MOB flip is a muscle memory habit, and the only way to break that is to stop doing it. Kickfliping to nose stall will force you to develop proper form, and eventually it will feel natural, but if you go back to flat ground too soon, you'll just revert to your old habit of flicking down. It should take you about 2 weeks of practice to start landing the kickflip to nose stall. Maybe less. Just don't get frustrated. It will come. Once you get comfortable doing the kickflip nose stall, you can start kick flipping up 2 stair or taller ledges or over things of a similar or greater height. Just don't do them on flat ground for any reason for at least a year.

i love the effort boss man so ill give u my best tip at 2:22 i want u to look at how sharp Dans knee is pointing ahead of the board. Focus on making that happen every time while also making sure (even if u fail becuase we all know u can kick flip but u wanna do it better rt?) you flick off the front of the board with that sharp knee sensation. look at your own footage and u see how not sharp ur knee is.... thats really your only biggest problem. And remember you need to pop to compensate for knee sharpness. You got this broski

I hear you man. I’ve been trying to improve my kickflips for about a year and a half. They have improved (believe it or not), but making changes that actually have an effect is so hard. Keep at it. 👊👍

On your flicking foot the ankle needs to roll more sideways while your sliding up the board and flicking. This will get the kickflip you want, but there is some "ankle muscle" development involved so it's hard to get in a day.
@beefsupreme93087 ай бұрын
Kick flip with your knee, before you pop, aim your knee where you want your front toe to go, knee leeds the foot. Same principle as golf, hands are free to react, the arms are the driving force. I just figured this out. Happy skating

That's one good advice, I would add that rolling a lot your ankle while you slide your foot helps a lot, that's the way you get the board up. I've been working a lot on this, i'm 42 and I've always had the same problem with kickflips. We had no youtube to learn from back when I started skating. Sorry for the broken english.

@cavf88 Жыл бұрын
You already have a few pointers in the comment which are right: 1. dont popkickflip, pop, ollie, then kickflip. You gotta wait a split ms before your pop and your flick. 2. In your comparison between the kicker kickflip and the one you did flatground, well look at your shoulders on the kicker one and see how they are open and that's why your legs shifted. 3. You don't seem to be applying enough pressure to the board, which leads to inacurate pop. I would either tight the trucks a bit more or play with changing the foot placement of both your feet til you get a crispy pop everytime. Fix the pop, then the kickflip. Good luck!

You're almost there! The comment below is right. Just gotta think of it like an ollie then kickflip. If you can do ollie norths, it is pretty much just that but with your foot off the side. At least that's how I think of it since you are forced to ollie first before then kick your foot off by following through the whole board. This could be a crazy idea to break that mental barrier but maybe try to kickflip into the fs 5050 that you were doing because you already have a proper 5050. You don't have to land on it but kind of flick it out to it. It will force you to mentally and physically jump higher at a target.

Your kick flips look fine, but if you wanna get Steezy ones like Dan I suggest working on boning your Ollie’s and getting that down. After that it’ll make it easier to manipulate your kickflips
@Microsoftwordaudiofiles Жыл бұрын
hey, i dont know if this will help you but if you place your feet more like on a heelflip - front foot more to the middle and back foot behind you to counterweight, than it will kind of force you to flick a slow lazy kickflip, combine this with jumping higher and giving it more pop. try this maybe after practising the flick movement. anyways good luck mate

I need to relearn kickflips since I blew out both my ankles a couple years back and had to spend 2 years off the board, but when I had them pretty solid and consistent I kind of visualized like I was swinging my front foot through the nose of the board. Like a pendulum. And because I'm treating it like a pendulum, the natural resulting arc causes the out and slightly down flick that Dan is talking about. The very first kickflip I ever landed was boned out hard cuz I was thinking about it that way

You're under committing to the kick. Your flick is all ankle when a majority of your power should be generated from your leg. It seems like your priority is to exert as little energy as possible, but it should be a somewhat forceful maneuver. Practice full extension kicks without a board, then incorporate that into your kick flips/heel flips and ollies. Think explosive! I would also recommend some form of strength training for your legs.
@RealLifeSkater Жыл бұрын
I like this!! Thank you. Very much appreciated. I’m going to incorporate all the suggestions and comments from everyone

How are you on ollies? IMO to do kickflips the way Dan does you need to be able to ollie pretty high with a similar form - a very pronounced flick forward on the nose and really suck those legs up. I CAN ollie that way but am still mastering the timing to kickflip that way too. Unlearning the muscle memory we seem to both have for kickflips is hard, I think the trick is finding foot placement on the board that changes your timing in just the right way, and that's unique for everybody...Just keep playing with higher ollies and foot placement for the flip is what I'm doing and slowly but surely my form is getting more consistent.
@RealLifeSkater Жыл бұрын
Very good point! And glad yours are getting better. My ollies are all right, I do a couple in the video. Maybe I’ll try some ollie tutorials and try to get those nicer and see how that translates. Idk we’ll see

@Gw3nFr3nch Жыл бұрын
@@RealLifeSkater if you position it the way Yuto does in that video and really think above your knee being out in front before you even pop, and following that straight motion through the board like Dan says, it really helps the kick through a lot and it will naturally help that back leg raise because your body sort of wants to keep you NOT upside down and the flicking foot sort of "stabilizes" you in midair until you can catch with the back foot and put the whole thing down. Best of luck to you, tricks can be such journeys!!

U need to JUMP, Bro. Think about when U ollie. U compress and jump. It's an OLLIE kickflip. Try telling yourself that right as you're about to decompress from your squat. I had this problem like 20 years ago. Yes, I'm old now and I've been skating for like 30 plus years. And I'm NOT being facetious with my comment.
