Let me know what you think about Stelo. Are you excited or disappointed?
@TheVaryox4 ай бұрын
I won't use it, since I'm a T1D, but giving more people access to this technology can only lead to good things, I think. it will improve health outcomes for (pre-)diabetics. It will make the devices more commonplace, that's one less thing low key alienating us (for lack of a better word) from the nondiabetic population. The manufacturers get to produce more of and improve more on it because the market gets bigger, thus making it better and cheaper (hopefully). And who knows how many people will try it out for fitness or dieting reasons and then find out that they're actually (pre-)diabetic, before disaster strikes.

I really like it so far. I've been wearing mine for almost a week now. I just wish there was a way to display the data on my watch. I really like being able to be at lunch and check my watch really quickly to see how my blood sugar is doing. Otherwise it's not very convenient to get out the phone and check the Stelo app. I love that I can permanently turn off any alarms. I used the G6 and G7 and I didn't like being woken up for false lows since I'm not on insulin or hypoglycemic.

I'm disappointed they gutted features that are standard across most CGM, probably to protect their existing prescription products and the data sharing service they sell doctors here in the US. I think the FDA should have forced it to be feature matching to gain approval.

I don’t often comment but someone was critical of you mentioning A1c levels & suggested you needed to become an endocrinologist. To balance that out, I would like to say that a family member became diabetic & the diabetic educator at our doctor’s office knew of your channel and liked that we were watching it. In addition, A1c ranges are fairly standard across the literature that we are reading (bought several books) and none are written by actual endocrinologists. I find your channel very factual and you provide your data and back up what you say. You have given us information that has helped us to know what to ask about at our doctor’s office - so I am very appreciative of the work you do. I find it solid and balanced, well thought out.

Be aware of the general assumptions when evaluating your A1c. The value is an assessment based on assumptions of the generel lifespan of a blood cell and the general ability of hemoglobin binding to glucose, hence not the lifespan of your blood cells or the ability of your hemoglobin to bind glucose. Likewise large spikes will not be detected as it is an average.
@newunderthesun73533 ай бұрын
One of the biggest problems with A1C is that it can be diet dependent. For instance, vegans usually have low A1C levels. Not because they are healthy, but because they are deficient in iron. Likewise, "carnivores" may have elevated A1C (like me) because we are saturated with iron. This is a generalization, I know the patho is not fully explained, however, the point about carnivores, vegans and people avoiding animal products is accurate.

My natural path gave me a prescription and I have been using the sensor to help monitor and have got my A1C down to 5.9 for the last year and expect it to drop more since I have been doing 3 days+ circuit training a week the past 6 months Having a sensor to be proactive is amazing. Hi, thank you first off!! I just tried to get the Stelo and was a step from ordering but they REQUIRE that you share EVERY BIT of data to join their program. I was part of a trial with Dexicom and that too required I share all of my data and CGM readings with them and no recourse. Libre doesn't require direct sharing... I found the Dexicom to be a good CGM but it is way too expensive and the libra 2 is much more affordable and now with Lingo, may be even less expensive a way to monitor and manage glucose. Since the Stelo is Dexcom, I will be staying far away as long as they require the data! I want to say that CGMs are AWESOME and have helped me and family members with both type 1 and 2 so having access to CGMs is good. Although I point out the data thing to help protect, the CGMs are invaluable to me and I believe will be a really huge help to mankind once the non-invasive tech is more available...

FYI you can also use Dexcom Clarity with this sensor for more data and export feature. Also when you are looking at the data points in portrait or Horizontal, if you hold your finger on any section of the dots you will see data appear for a specific time and BS level. You can scrub across the dots to see how your BS changed. Lastly, I would NEVER just trust a CGM alone and would ALWAYS occasionally do a finger prick to Double check the CGM data.

First time user of a CGM. Ordered and delivered next day. Amazon is doing the delivery. I did SPUs (Soleus Push Ups) between readings just after eating for a half hour to see what effect SPUs had on my glucose. Went from 120 mg/dl to 105 mg/dl. It was an interesting experiment. And I verified the readings twice with my Keto Mojo and the readings were very close or exactly the same for one of the two readings. So nice not to have to do finger pricks.

I have a similar trick. If my readings are 140 or 150 and still rising, I do squats, ... till exhaustion. Takes a couple of minutes. Don't need to go outside. I've had it go up to 160, and was able to knock it down 60 points. But eventually it goes back up, to some lower (saner) level, ... to work of the rest of the sugar. This depends on the carbohydrate load in the system. But able to avoid staying in the highs.

I'm lucky because my insurance covers CGM's even though I'm T2DM. These new CGM's are being marketed under a new name like Ozempic because the market is there. Many athletes, amateur and professional, use these sensors for training insight. This is the complement to sports smartwatches for complete bio profiles. It's the new obsession. The craving for data by gym and road warriors is insatiable. It's the tip of the iceberg because research for all kinds of monitoring and drug delivery through microneedles will be the next biomedical boom. There are also applications for nanoneedles, which are the next level of bioengineering. This is an excellent video.

My mother, aunt and grandfather were all type 2 diabetics. I have been keeping an eye on my glucose levels for many years just to stay on top of it, but now that I am above 65 years old, I am seeing levels above 110 in the morning. I was surprised and happy Stelo was available without a prescription and when I saw your review I thought this is worth a try to investigate how my blood sugar is responding to food during the day. Having the Stelo tracking my glucose levels through the day was very informative and close to my finger prick glucometer. I did have some problems setting up the app correctly on my new phone, so the first five hours the monitor graph was flat. Once I deleted the app and re-paired the Stelo with the correct phone settings, it began to work very well. Unfortunately, after a few days I bumped my upper arm rather hard getting into the back seat of my suv and ripped it half off. I was relieved when I was able to press it back on and it still worked. Five days later, however I rolled over in bed and ripped it off entirely! So only a partial usage which was disappointing. I'm wondering if I should try it on my belly since I don't have much movement across it, but will stick with the upper arm another two weeks and see.

Thank you for this video! Glad I'm found this channel. My negatives re Stelo are definitely the difficulty to switch from portrait to landscape, seems the app is only compatible with Apple watches (which is a let down for thus of us who use Garmin) and the fact that there are no alerts for blood sugar dips / level readings below 70mg/dL. I'm a pre-diabetic who experiences exercise induced hypoglycemia. During my last "below 70" reading I used my finger prick machine and found my level was 56. So many positives though about the Stelo app and CGM though! My first time to use a CGM. I'm finding out I'm pre-diabetic I wanted to learn how to go about lowering my A1c. Stelo has shown some very interesting patterns and I've been making lifestyle and dietary adjustments that seem to be helping. The CGM was completely painless and easy to apply, even though I'm a runner, the CGM has stuck to me perfectly, the app has worked wonderfully. Did learn to download the Clarity app to go back to fetch older readings from previous days (only logging 24 hrs is another Stelo negative). Having your blood sugar information without having to pick your finger throughout the day is a serious game changer. The CGM doesn't bother me at all throughout the day as well. I'm so glad to have found out about this and look forward to my next A1c testing to see what my new number will be!

I've been Type 2 going on 20 years now, I struggle with maintaining glucose level and as a result managing A1C. I see an endocrinologist every 3 months and today Dr recommend this meter. I did a bit of research and here are my thoughts: 1) The Stelo site tends to be focused on selling a product without giving you the cost/benefit features like your vid. 2) You make it clear that the sensor is good for only 15 days. 3) You make it clear you can purchase on-line with no prescription. 4) For $99.00 you get two, each last for 15 days, that means you are spending $99 a month. 5) Neither the Stelo site or your video indicates this over the counter product is covered by insurance. I like video, you give clear and precise info on compare contrast of similar products, what's in the box, how to apply and the fact there is a needle that enters the skin. I also like how you explain the features of the app as well as the pro and con. It's also good you indicate the benefit of the price reduction of you use the subscription, though a 10% discount isn't all that much IMO. You do mention that you can terminate the subscription at any time. I wonder if there is a penalty for early cancellation? I'm some what hesitant to even try this if it's not covered by insurance. The reason: $99.00 X 12 = $1,188.00 Did I get this right? What am I missing?
@gilleschercuitte425513 күн бұрын
If you need insurance coverage then Freestyle Libre, or others like it, are actual approved medical devices for the treatment of diabetes and can be covered by insurance, but it seems in the US that's not necessarily the case. I can't understand why some insurance cover it and others don't.
@MrMrFlyPuppy45 минут бұрын
Insurance is currently only covering FDA CGMS (not Stelo nor Lingo) IF you require insulin, However, some UHC plans and others give a small discount if you are type 2 like me without extra insulin daily, so check your ins and see if they cover even if you are type 2 and NOT using additional insulin. This could mean that the Libre could be less expensive if you have good ins (Lingo is OTC and not FDA approved med device). I am seeing $89 per month (30 days) for the libra 2 with ins, $100 couple without. My hope is that (soon) insurance will see the preventative benefit of covering these for all type1 and 2 as well as pre-diabetes affected people!

I just started wearing this about a week ago ( I’m type 2)this is amazing…I live in the US and was denied my libre prescription because the insurance doesn’t cover it any longer. I have also been denied the deacon 7 because I’m not on insulin. I chose to try Stelo and used my HSA to pay for this. I absolutely love this sensor. What I also love about it is that because I am a light sleeper if I have a false slow and alarm doesn’t go off to alert me while I’m sleeping. It’s very easy to put on. I also did not have any issues with putting on the over patch and I can barely tell I have it on. The app is very easy to navigate as well as get your readings every 15 minutes. If you or someone you know is having issues with getting their insurance to cover this is a great option to choose and it’s very affordable. when I was using the Libre my insurance would only cover part of it, and I would end up paying close to the same price each month that this sensor costs. I will most likely continue to keep using this as a way to maintain my blood sugar levels. I actually just got my A1c results back a few weeks ago and I am at 6.5 when a year ago I was 9.2. I have been a diabetic for over 14 years and this is absolutely a life changer.

After two weeks of using the Dexcom Stelo, I found it fell short of my expectations. Since I am not diabetic, my goal was to use the device to understand how different foods affected my body, with the hope of making healthier choices and reducing the risk of developing sugar intolerance in the future. However, when I compared Stelo’s readings to actual fingerstick tests, I noticed a consistent discrepancy: the Stelo was always 30 to 50 points higher. This inaccuracy meant it constantly triggered alarms for glucose spikes, no matter how healthy my meals were. Its daily reports even suggested I was diabetic, which was far from the truth. Because of these inconsistencies, I couldn’t reliably track how specific foods impacted my body. Instead, the device seemed only to detect that I had eaten, assigning glucose levels almost randomly. Frustration set in as it became clear that the Stelo provided little more than general tendencies, making it impossible for me to draw any meaningful conclusions about my diet. In the end, I was left questioning whether it was measuring anything beyond when I ate, with the actual glucose readings feeling almost arbitrary.

I have been wearing Stelo for 10 days now. I thought your review of the app itself was spot on. It leaves a lot to be desired, but if that's what it takes to make it affordable, so be it. My Stelo readings are always about 10-20 points higher than the glucometer readings. Of course it's important to understand that Stelo and glucometers measure blood sugar in different ways (interstitial vs. capillary) That said, I found it just a little bit frustrating at first. Now I just say "meh". I see it's real value in teaching me patterns, and how to eat to avoid spikes. I am type 2 diabetic. I've had a few surprises, but mostly avoiding spikes is just good ole' plain common sense telling me that the bowl if ice cream I'm about to est is going to spike my BS. I did find value in "how long" the spike lasted. Don't really need to spend $90./mo to figure it out, but it's another tool in the arsenal. One thing I noticed is that the patch used on the Stelo is much different than that of the G7. However, I do see G7 ads on Facebook that show a G7 with a patch similar to the one used on the Stelo. I wonder if this is the same patch that is going out on the updated G7 sensors, and if this could possibly mean the G8 will finally achieve the 15 day wear time like we all hoped.

Yes. They use a new patch. This is with all Stelo sensors and newer G7 sensors as well.

Stelo. It's for the DIY diet market and type 2's that hate sticking their fingers. Improving and training yourself to adapt to a new diet lifestyle. More ideal would be if they could get it down to $60 a month if you prepaid for a whole year. It's not a log term logger. It's not medical. It's advisory and not guaranteed. It probably also takes fewer readings in order to stretch the battery out to 15 days. I'm definitely getting it.

My G7 filament was missing after I removed the sensor. The doctor's office couldn't help, so it's still somewhere in my arm. The only way to improve my health was with the extra data it provides. My spikes go beyond what the Stelo can offer, thanks for that helpful information! For the exchange of data Dexcom should reduce the price, in my opinion.

As a type 2, I liked the Stelo a lot. Better than the Lingo. It was more accurate, but every sensor I had failed/ended early about 9 days in. They replaced the first one, but never responded when I filed reports for the other 4 sensors. I went back to Lingo, but for me, it is always about 20 off and sometimes up to 40 off after meals.

I was paying OOP for G7 with prescription from my PCP. The Stelo is half the price so I ordered for 1 month. Unfortunately it has been inaccurate several times compared to my Glucose Meter readings. I liked that I could calibrate the G7 with my meter. When I input my finger stick readings the Stelo doesn't calibrate. Eventually the numbers come closer together but I wish it would not be off so much so often. I may need to go back to G7 but hate paying twice as much.
@rancid2163 ай бұрын
I just received mine and so far it's reading around 15 points higher than my meter. Supposedly, it gets more accurate after a few days. Even if it doesn't get better I'll just have to keep that in mind throughout the day.

Mine was still reading 15 to 20 points high after two days. On another channel person that wears a Dexcom G7 said that they get the best readings by placing it on the thigh. So I took off the sensor on my arm and placed the second one on my thigh. Have to see how that works. I contacted Stelo and said I had a defected sensor. So hopefully, they replace the first sensor.
@rancid2163 ай бұрын
Now getting much more accurate readings from the sensor I placed on my upper thigh. Did I have a defective sensor, or for me the thigh works better than the arm. Stelo is going to send me a replacement for the sensor that wasn't working right.

amazing! I wish this had been around when I was caregiver for my mother with dementia. (I'm in usa) Even though she was type 2, she didn't qualify insurance wise for dexcom or libre I had to buy them out of pocket at $200 per month cause her dementia got to a point she wouldn't let me prick her hands. I felt so abandoned by her medical team, they also stopped seeing her for annual appointments because her AC1 was under 8 and they didn't see anyone under 10 you were on your own and as a caregiver with minimal to no training I had to heavily rely on my own research for learning what doses of insulin she needed. (how I found your channel when researching CGMs) I will definitely ordering stelo for myself, I have insulin resistant pcos and have wanted a cgm to make diet changes. As I've gotten older I've noticed my blood sugar spikes/downtrends are effecting me energy wise.

The fact that this CGM's don't record or archive your events and readings is super annoying. They should automatically download the day before it is about to expire. That simple. The main issue in the US is you need a doctors prescription. Not so in many countries. We can bypass this but is not well known. I do hear that CGM's will be available non-presription soon. There was never a reason for this to be presription. All other glucose meters are available without prescription.

CGM and the like do not measure blood glucose levels (BGL) as stated here. The patch inserts sensors which measure the electric conductivity of glucose in the interstitial fluid, which is only, proportional to the BGL, not the actual BGL. Only fingerprick or glucometer measures the BGL at that one point in time. Both CGM and glucometer have their good and bad points.
@thebeatles93 ай бұрын
This is a very important distinction. My Stelo is 18-20 points HIGHER than my finger sticks, even first thing in the morning (no time lapse issues). The CGM readings are meant to be "degrees of measurements" rather than "absolute measurements". In other words, when I wake up to a 110 stelo reading, I know that my actual BLOOD glucose is 90. Stelo is measured in degrees, finger prick is the absolute measure
@luisv0073 ай бұрын
@@thebeatles9 what are you talking about? The glucose concentration measures by CGM (whether prescribed by a doctor or over the counter) and glucometer measures the concentration of glucose in either mg/dl or mmol/L, but the difference is CGM is interstitial and finger prick is blood. Finger prick or glucometer measures are needed if your symptoms are different to what you CGM is reading. Scientifically, CGM cannot be used to measure effects of food because it doesn’t measure blood glucose levels. He states GI but GI levels are measured using blood glucose, not CGM readings.

@Mike-fj2ln2 ай бұрын
People with pre-diabetes or non-insulin diabetes will buy this instead of a prescription CGM due to cost. In addition, the Medicare rules only cover CGMs for people who inject Insulin 4 times per day or more, which excludes many on GLP-1's and/or long-acting Insulin. The problem here, for those people, is that the range limitations, 70 to 250, is too narrow for them. Hopefully Dexcom figures this out, and sooner than later, as their disclaimers will only get them so far in court.

Stelo was 23 numbers higher than the lab results. I couldn’t place it in the recommended area. How can the required area be the back of the arm when older women often have flabby arms? I’m normal weight but 70 years old so flabby arms like many. I put it on the front in the space between two muscles. I don’t plan on continual use but will try it again and use my abdomen.

How does it compare to Freestyle? I tried the Freestyle Libre 2 last year for about 3 months and had a sensor failure rate of about 75% -- so I just could not be certain that the 25% of the time that the sensors did work were actually giving me accurate data. The senors would stay on fine but they would spontaneously quit working after a few hours to a few days with same error message requiring sensor replacement -- which Abbott would always send a free replacement, but the hassle of mailing back, waiting for replacement, and data confidence was just not for me. I kept asking them what the the meaning of the error message was and they would never answer my question and always just apologize for inconvenience and promise to send me a replacement. Does the Stelo have a better (more reliable) sensor than Abbott's Freestyle?

I have used both apps and both Dexcom G7 and Stelo. The absolute negative for Stelo is you cannot calibrate it. You can put the number in, but you don’t know if it’s going to actually calibrate. I do have very wide swings between fingersticks and interstitial. Why allow you to put in a fingerstick if it doesn’t calibrate the app? That’s meant for Dexcom, if they ever read something like this.
