I tried eating only one meal a day. The OMAD diet is an extreme fasting diet where you fast for 23 hours and get only 1 hour to eat one meal per day. In this video I try to fit all my calories and macros in that one meal. Will I succeed? Watch the video and find out!

I’ve been doing OMAD for four years straight and tbh the first 1-2 months we’re the worst, it takes quite a while for your hunger hormones to adjust. After those first months however, it’s easy and I often have to push myself to actually eat my one meal on time because I just never get hungry. Lost 40 lbs over 4 months and then leveled out and haven’t changed weight noticeable since then, and life is so much simpler now. I love it, may continue indefinitely 👍

I started fasting for over 24 hours occasionally at the same time that I started OMAD due to poor planning on my part, and lack of caring. I was wondering why I feel less hungry. Also no shade to this guy, but I can eat WAY more than what he has in one sitting. I have fun at buffets.

@@agneum7838 Different insight I was 268 pounds when I did OMAD, I exercised occasionally (usually like 5km runs, 2-3 times a month) but over the span of a year the lowest I went down to was 175 pounds, calories wise I aimed for 1700, couldn't tell you on body fat as never really checked! It really does take a couple of months for you to adapt but once powered through, hunger subsides and makes it a lot easier, even going off OMAD for months, coming back to it was easy - I do recommend to eat more calories than I did though

I totally agree, I dont understand those people that label overeating in one meal as a risk. I can barely eat too, I do eat once a day, whatever I want, but my stomach cannot take in a large portion. And yes, life is so much simpler, I have more energy, my sleep is better, etc. Its been 2 month now, lost 15 kg.

As someone who’s done OMAD on multiple occasions for extended periods of time (up to 6 month stretches), a lot of it is just a mental battle, like many things. That being said, I have an affinity for fasting and rather enjoy it. It really simplifies life and I can easily eat 2500-3000 cals in a single meal. It’s my go to method when cutting because tracking calories and macros isn’t required. I’ll naturally only be able to eat below maintenance cals in one meal a day so I love it.

I'm 57 years old, 6'1" and weigh 205 lbs. I find doing OMAD twice a week ( once during the week and once on the weekend) very helpful. I come from a long line of eaters, so consuming 2500 to 2800 calories in one shot on those days is not a problem for me. I do an 18 or 19 hour fast, three days a week and don't fast at all two days a week. Switching it up helps me to eat better (cleaner) and gives me the flexibility to eat according to my workouts. When I do OMAD it is usually on heavy cardio days.

@@orionsector I do alternate day OMAD fasting and I haven't seen it having a negative effect on me building muscle. Try to monitor your progress with either weights or reps..and as long as you're progressing...I would say..it's not really negatively impacting you. I would say to just track it over the course of an entire month. As you get stronger...the progression tends to come slower because the weights are getting higher. I think true progression will happen as long as you rest and recover between workouts. The body is way more capable of utilizing much more protein than we think...even in one sitting. Then with fasting..you can't beat the autophagy benefits. I love OMAD and prefer it every other day to keep my calories in check.

I have made great gains on OMAD, your diet composition is far more important than meal timing or frequency itself regarding muscular hypertrophy. I think OMAD works great if you eat in the neighborhood of 1500-2000 calories. With 3000 calories, it just is very uncomfortable from a volume perspective. Personally, OMAD has been a key part of what has helped me lose over 50 lb and keep it off due to it meaning I can eat a big late lunch/early dinner and feel quite satiated through bed time and have no desire to eat unhealthily late at night. I think time restricted eating (which BuffDudes has made at least one video about previously) is much more sustainable for most people.

I found as long as I was busy I didn't miss food during the day and consuming a large meal at night was easy enough for me and left me feeling satisfied. @z.a.4801

I think the biggest mistake here was going from not fasting at all to OMAD. It's like going from not working out to doing 4 hours of workout a day, you're not going to feel great about it. Your body needs time to adapt. For me, the benefits are huge. I had breathing problems, they're gone, and I lost 10 kg of fat whilst retaining almost all of my muscles, meaning I look like I lost almost 20kg. It's such a great ability to have, not needing to eat. I can wake up at 3 am, go to work, come back in the beginning of the afternoon and than have my nice meal at home, instead of stressing out outside on what to eat. I can workout for hours and not need to eat before or afterwards. And the best part of course is having one huge meal where you can eat whatever you want, and your body will let you know quickly if you're eating crap as you will start feeling miserable and crave better food the next day. Also, strictly only eating once a day no matter what is not what I do, some days I do OMAD, some days I'll have two meals, just like working out, some days you do more some days your body needs a little break.

The problem with your approach to this one meal a day is that only doing it for a week doesn't allow your body enough time to adapt. Humans are naturally designed to be able to comfortably not eat so often. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors didn't have the luxury of eating three to six meals a day. They would often eat well one day and have little to nothing the next few days. If you didn't kill or find any food that day, you didn't eat.
@carssucksince1800s
@carssucksince1800s 7 ай бұрын
That's not true. Food could be stored in caves, or below ground level. It doesn't mean that they ate 3 meals per day either, but the whole one meal per day or multiple days without food was not the norm. Millions of years ago, when first humans existed, there was a much larger abundance of animals, plants, lakes with fish, birds, insects. Extinction events have reduced the amount of food available, and today we are using a lot more land for our structures driving away animals from where they used to nest. Indeed they did have luxury to more natural food six meals or whatever meals they were used to. It doesn't seem like that's possible today because if we didn't have farms, factories, trade, we literally would have famine killing majority of the population, because there are billions of us, vs maybe a million humans back then.

been doing OMAD for about 6 months for 5 days a week. Down to about 235 from 315. On the weekends when I break my fasting pattern I blow up to about 5 - 10 pounds more than whatever weight I currently reside at. ofc that includes lifting w/ cardio for 4 - 5 days a week and limiting myself to anywhere from 1000 - 2000 calories a day depending on what day it is. I allow myself one cheat day a week usually. The key to OMAD is staying busy with lots of coffee during the day. Occupying myself with work, lifting, obligations, etc... Then rewarding myself with a nice meal at the end of the day.

I've been doing the omad diet five days a week for 6.5 years. I love it. I've maintained muscle and strength and have maintained a pretty consistent weight. I normally fluctuate in a 240-250 range. I'm 6,1. I like to train right before I break my fast. I've gotten used to training in an empty stomach over the years. One huge benefit to this is the insulin spike you get after breaking a long fast. The insulin spike is incredibly anabolic and having that post workout is very beneficial. This diet definitely takes serious self control and determination but if you can do it and your body responds positively the it's amazing. Do yourself a favor and learn about autophagy as well. This is a mode your body gets into typically after 12 hours of fasting. Your body detoxes itself at a cellular level. Study's have shown autophagy has anti-aging, anti inflammatory and anti cancer and disease effects.

I save up all my calories and have an hours long feast, and then go to bed not long after (works for me). Plus, if I have leftover calories, that's good news for the next day. But, I get it, the diet is officially done in a certain way, and is meant as an alternative to tracking. As a big eater, I can't do small meals, but I can snack a little.

I would love to you both of the Buff Dudes do this again BUT try my causal OMAD style because its much better you don't obsess over food(atleast I don't) and I would crumble if I did strict OMAD like you did for this and be pounding supplments to cope. Please give my style a try!!! It's so much better than what you did or this vid lol I do "one meal a day". Like one big dinner or lunch but I also snack when I feel like it(I try not to snack but when food calls I don't ignore my stomach) and I probably don't hit my marco's or whatever I just eat whatever I'm feeling or cooking up and I don't follow anything strict but it's also something I've been doing for a LONG time too. I mainly started doing casual OMAD because if I ate a full meal more than once a day I would have horrific heart burn when it was time to sleep and no matter what I did(more water, crazy hard workouts, apple cider vinegar ect.) I would still feel that way so I cut it down to one main meal and then a snack here or there and of course a protein shake to help hit my protein levels AND I supplement big time(but I would use supp's even if I was doing 2-3 meals a day) Trying to get all your vitamins and fats and stuff from food I thought was impossible doing OMAD till I saw this video and you ever said you had to cut the veggies and were down on marco's. My version of OMAD is eating as little as possible to help not spike your insulin levels because every time you eat no matter how much or how little or even sugar in your coffee you spike your insulin levels. So that's the other reason I've stuck with casual OMAD. I'd love to see you all do my casual OMAD That way you can have your cool protein snacks you all make and still get a shake in whenever you workout or whatever and not crave food all day and weird shit. I do occasionally make a tad too much food too so I know how you feel because I did that earlier this week and felt like I was going to die because I ate so lolololol. Luckly those days are omega rare for me and basically only happen on thanksgiving xD

Ive been doing it for over 20 years. My friends and family are always shocked when they see the amount of food I eat at the dinner table. When I was 20 years old I read how our ancient ancestors who were hunter gatherers only ate once a day and that is only after hunting on an empty stomach. So I started this routine. I would lift weights after waking up and use last nights dinner as fuel. In the evening I would do 1 hour of cardio to burn off those excess calories. By 7pm when I eat dinner, I will consume 2500 calories in one sitting. Its not for everyone though. Give it a try.

I actually found it made me think about food less. Small meals a bunch of times a day was very stressful for me. I do OMAD once or twice a week but most of the time i find 20-4 the best of both worlds.

OMAD is a huge extreme - I'm not a scientist but I would have the feeling that doing it, it would permanently expand my stomach over time + doing it after 5PM would definitely impact sleep schedule. However by just changing to 2 meals per day it gets very manageable - I'm currently doing it for 1 month (eating 40% at 9AM and 60% at 3PM, squeezing a workout at 1.30PM) - this way I'm full of energy for the workout, stay sated for the rest of the day and fast for 16 hours. Win win.
@charleshill1906
@charleshill1906 8 ай бұрын
The way he did it was extreme. Eating until you're just about to throw up is not OMAD. Whoever he got advice from gave him wrong information. Carbs metabolize into glucose when consumed and trigger dopamine in the brain. It's well known that the consumption of carbs triggers cravings in individuals, which is why his carb heavy OMAD had him constantly thinking about food. Carbs also digest quickly so even though he was eating to an extreme state of fullness his desire for food was strong because he was feeding himself fast digesting sugars. Fat on the other hand, does not cause that food craving, takes longer to digest and is more filling. If he switched his macro's from carb heavy to fat heavy he wouldn't have needed to eat so much and wouldn't have been struggling with those cravings. I would also say that his foods are probably really low on salt and sufficient salt intake will also help to kill cravings longer than water. Drinking a glass of water until full to trick yourself into not being hungry only for 20 minutes to go by and having to repeat the process because it's metabolized so quickly...it should be obvious that's not a smart way to do it. Drink a glass of water with some added salt or just eat a little bit of salt and it will help keep you hydrated and fuller longer. My personal OMAD is a steak and a tall glass of milk once per day, maybe some eggs here and there and lots of salt and butter. I'll also cook my foods in butter or ghee or bacon fat, and it's basically easy mode for that diet model.

I had a case of 'slow digestion' (happened progressively) from age 15 to around 18. By around 19 years-old I could only effectively eat one "main" meal per day, with maybe some light snacking. So it consists of this in a day: 1) Wake up, drink water, prepare food for my main, and only proper meal of the day. That meal is my Breakfast, Diner and Super in one. (Not in quantity, but in "meaning"). 2) That one meal I eat at around 1:00 pm max (sometimes earlier by 1 hour or so, depends), occasionally 2:00 pm but that's rare. 3) Then my belly bloats up like I'm 4 or 5 months pregnant, and stays like that for basically most of the remainder of the day. 4) However, by around 7:00 pm max, I take a snack. 5) The "snack" is usually a bowl of cereals with milk (normally Almond milk, but I'm ok with cow's milk), some cookies and/or a small portion of yogourt; sometimes waffles or coffee (1 cup, no added sugar, with milk; I never drink it dark). 6) Aaaand that's it, by around 7:30 pm or 8:00 pm max, I'm done eating completely. 7) At this point, it's a glass of water for the rest of the day (or early hours of the night) and I go to bed. I'm 41 years-old now, so yeah it's been like this basically for 22 to maybe 23 years or so. The 'fun' part is whenever I ask doctors about my "condition" they just tell me it's a case of slow / lazy digestion, that's it. They did all the tests you can imagine, been to many 'specialized' places. There's "nothing wrong", my stomach works, it's 'just slow'. No known allergies either (peanuts, milk, seafood, it's all fine). I don't have diabetes or any significant health issues. I got good blood pressure, oxygen level is 99%, no Hearth problems. It's been the conclusion for that long, and will apparently stay like that for the rest of my life. Point here is this I guess: If it benefits you guys, to eat just one meal a day, then do it. It's not that dangerous, you'll just have less excess energy to burn. One doctor I saw for my case told me that I was somewhat in an interesting position because - to his eyes - I was a case of someone who would have basically done what's being suggested in this video for decades (which has supposedly never truly been tested on a large number of people, there's very few studies on this subject; people only report some benefits of this on an individual basis more than in large groups).

I have a bloat issue a well and have had it for years. The only thing the doctor told me after my barium swallow test was that I digested things slowly. Seriously, that’s all I was told! The only thing that has made it better was giving up all sources of grain, vegetables, fruit and sugar. So I am now eating animal based foods only, except for coffee with butter in it. I do still bloat some from certain dairy products so I don’t always have those if I want to feel my best. The difference in how I feel is dramatic. No more chronic pain, tons more stamina, and I am actually starting to look a bit younger (I’m 49). I have lost many inches of fat, but not as much weight now since I am gaining muscle through high intensity weight lifting workouts. Try meat and eggs only for 2 or 3 months and your bloating may improve also. Thank you for sharing your story!❤😊

There's a reason it's sometimes referred to as the Warrior Diet. I enjoy fasting and have no issues dealing with hunger throughout the day. If you're bulking and trying to put on a ton of muscle it will definitely be difficult to get the cals in. If you're trying to lose weight, it's a great too. Fasting windows are different for everyone but if you're wanting to push a smaller window, I'd say a 20 hour fast with a 4 hour window is more sustainable long term. Break the fast with a high protein 500 ish calorie meal, wait an hour to hour and a half and then have a larger meal and maybe dessert. Currently I'm doing more of a "it doesn't matter when I ate last, I fast the first 5-6 hours of my day starting from whenever I get up" thing and follow somewhat of the same protocol. 500 calorie meal to break the fast (post workout) then a large dinner.

The key to OMAD is not trying to eat your maintenance calories in one meal. Rather, it's eating at least several hundred less than your maintenance calories. That way, you can combine the fasting benefits of 23 hours everyday and the easy calorie restriction, thereby slowing your ageing process.

I've pretty much been doing OMAD my entire life. I was never hungry in the morning and breakfast would usually just make me feel slow if I did have it. I would sometimes have lunch in school but usually just some salad, milk, and bites of the main lunch option. I love to binge eat tho and the after school meals went crazy. In college I had an even crazier diet. I mostly did 3500-4000 calories in one meal over 2 hours (very relaxed tho watched a movie and would eat till I felt full never forcing in food) then the next few days I had classes b2b and only had time for tiny meals, so It would be 500,1000,1000-1500, 3500-4000 on a 4 day cycle. It was very easy to maintain this diet on a bulk, never got cravings, never got hunger pangs, never felt lose of energy. However trying the same thing for a cut where I just changed it to 1000,1000,1500,2500-3000 on first day instead is where the hunger pangs kicked in, still had good energy and everything tho. TLDR: Its easier to cook once per day for a busy schedule, but for OMAD to work you have to LIVE it.

As in about 300 calories to start the day and then the remaining 1600 calories for dinner, though some of that is put into the three eggs I eat as a post-workout on training days. That is technically three meals, but obviously most of it goes towards dinner, by far. Not too dissimilar when bulking, but the ratio between dinner and the other meals gets a lot closer to 50/50.

I use OMAD combined with keto for annual "lose the winter gut" fat loss. Keto lowers my hunger response which makes OMAD easier to do - and like others have mentioned sometimes I end up having to force myself to eat because it's meal time, even though I'm not actually hungry.

yea Intermittent Fasting and OMAD are both beneficial for those trying to lose weight because it teaches us to limit the calories intake. Trying to get 2k+ calories in one meal is very difficult It really depends on how you want to go about eating it's definitely not for everyone though. I've been doing I.F for 3 months now and i've made alot of progress in my fat loss journey, still have a long way to go but i know i'll get there if i stick with it.

Great video. Ive tried OMAD and wasnt a big fan. Prior to trying, i was already doing IF so i was use to fasting. Personally i do 20 hour fast. I break my fast with a small meal prior to my workout. Have a post workout snack and then about hour later is usually is when i have my bigger meal. With OMAD i felt i wasnt optimal with my workouts.

Thank you sir! Fasting like this is about reducing calories, at the end of the day works for some, but not all. I think, it has more to do with body type and blood sugar profile. I run low on blood sugar, so your irritability would be my sweating-swearing-crazy-person with explosions, headache, and little to no energy or motivation, driving would be out.(family trait on both sides, born with it). My brother-in-law could do this no problem, and a few other people I follow, it works well for them, although those people do not have a high-intensity lifestyle, the brother-in-law does. I can do regular fasting so far for 1-3 days, day one is evil, and I have to work into it by keeping my blood sugar even with slow sugars for at least 3x days before so its a glide and not a trip to the ER for some apple juice. Seeing how bad my blood sugar is naturally without a doctor assisting me (yay, you don't have diabetes, probably pre-diabetes, can't /won't look into it further! ), there is probably a large spectrum from no problem, to not for everybody. So, if you suffer excessively, take a pass, and try a different form of fasting. Fasting does have its benefits, but I suspect most of it is calorie cutting to get the weight down quickly, keeping eating away from sleep time, and letting the gut rest from all the modern food-like substances that just aren't good for health. Good Luck!

I do this minus the fancy name(omad) and honestly works best for me. You just need to get used to it. Haven't affected my performance at all, its still progressive overload as usual. Yes it was a bit hard in the initial stages, first couple weeks but then hunky dory!

I lost weight in less than a week doing this, and it wasn’t that difficult for me. I love to eat, but knowing my food is waiting for me after a hard work day is a pleasure and a reward.

I've been doing OMAD since 2019 and it has become a lifestyle for me. I'm 5'9" and just under 150 lbs (which I feel is ideal for me). I've been maintaining this weight the whole time. I usually eat my meal in the middle of the day (but sometimes I'll eat in the evening instead if I'm doing something social). You definitely need to give it more than a week to get adjusted to it. It took me about 3-4 months to get fully adjusted. The things I enjoy about OMAD are that I don't get hungry throughout the day; I don't have to think about food except when it is time to eat. I feel like I enjoy food and food preparation more now. My weight also stays very consistent no matter what I eat (whether I'm doing a lot of carbs, or if I'm on a keto kick which I do from time to time). I enjoy not having to cut deserts or count calories to stay at my ideal weight. I also like being able to see all of my macros on my plate. It makes it easier to know what macro nutrients I'm getting without keeping a tally throughout the day. Many people claim OMAD helps with energy. I still feel a mid-afternoon slump. And if I eat too late in the day it interferes with my sleep. So I'd say it hasn't really affected my energy one way or another. A lot of people starting out on OMAD (including me when I started) feel that you have to completely gorge yourself when you do eat, in order to get enough. That isn't the case. I still eat a large plate, but it's less than you'd think you would need. When you eat once a day, you just don't need as much food as you would if you were eating continuously throughout the day. I believe you could gain muscle on OMAD, but it'd probably be at a slower pace than if you were to eat multiple times a day.

I did OMAD for a year a couple years ago. I already wasn't eating alot for one, but I also wasn't as lean as the buff guys (I did consistently do resistance training tho). Long story short: It took about 8 or 9 days for.my body to acclimate, but when it did, it felt AMAZING. There was a moment of transition that almost felt psychedelic. My senses became hyper acute, and my energy was incredible. And when it was time to eat, it was so satisfying and it tasted way better. I stopped because I was too lean, and I wanted to bulk up. The transition to eating 3 to 4 meals a day honestly was harder and took longer than doing OMAD. I'd recommend it if you wanna shed some pounds, but i wouldn't recommend doing it this way schedule wise. Eat right after your workout or right before. If you eat before it made me sluggish tho.
