I’m Kenyan. Elliot Kipchoge’s diet is what 90% of Kenyans eat daily. It’s actually quite filling and when cooked properly, NOT bland. That being said...your execution was...lol. That was not ugali, nor was that Kenyan Chai and Kenyans usually eat very dark leafy greens as vegetables almost all the time (managu is extremely dark and bitter and chewy). Still, I admire the spirit of this video and I thought it was a good attempt!

Then we eat very simple, unprocessed and natural Kenyan foods. Sleep early, up early, and we read every day. Welcome to Kenya, we'll teach you how to make Ugali and give you lots of delicious Kenyan tea leaves to take back home

you said sometimes when you run faster it feels less tired. thats absolutely true according to a lot of people’s experience. it could be that when you pick up the pace your body gets more excited. and when you slow down, you “hinted” to your body that you are in a tired mode and your body then keeps sending signal that you are tired.

@MagerialPage4 жыл бұрын
@@fattysl26 agreed, the more time spent airborne, the less time pounding your ligaments against the ground, but it takes energy to propel oneself, so that's why you have to be fit to keep up an efficient pace.

Morning Bread - Plain bread in Kenya would be considered Whole Grain in the US. No bleaching of flour would take place which accelerates the influx of carbohydrate in the bloodstream. You definitely would get a different feel during your run if you had used a whole grain. I'd also recommend putting the quantities of foods eaten into the My Plate App. The amount of protein consumed is well above the NDA recommendations. He simply gets his protein from the source animals get it, vs. being filtered through an animal which comes with inflammation.

Laughs in Kenyan at his "ugali" Lemme try to help you out. Boil water. Mix in the flour and use more of a spade like wooden spoon than a whisk. This will help avoid having flour lumps. A popular test for beginners for consistency is to hit the wall with the ugali. If it leaves streaks/flows, it's not ready. Add more flour. If it sticks but is a clean shot, it's good enough. If it drops off clean like a ball, it's perfectly done. It should not be too much flour to make it break apart. The end product should be more of a soft lump rather than a paste. The ugali can be made with a variety of flours. Maize, Cassava and millet flour combos are a popular option. Basically what you did but drop the whisk and do a wooden spoon. Add more flour. Managu is pronounced -Man-ah-goo- and it's pig weed. We eat it all the time. You did well ❤️. Just a few tips on the off chance that you decide to try ugali again 😅.

Great video, Elijah. I will make a quick annotation regarding calorie intake, if I may. In most videos/interviews, Kipchoge is depicted sipping Maurten before and after runs. At 320kcals per large pack, and assuming he has more than one serving, that could add 600-900+ calories to his daily total. Still low for most elite runners, but it would add 80-240g of carbohydrates to his daily total. The macronutrient ratio would then skew heavily in favor of carbohydrates which would allow Kipchoge to keep total calories low and glycogen levels high.

Unfortunately your ugali is way off. It's supposed to be much drier, and comes in a large brick. You eat it with your hands, and use it to pick up the stew or whatever the main meal is. You may think that diet is bland but a lot of Africans would find it savory. It only tastes bland when you're accustomed to the rich processed foods of a Western diet. I knew plenty of Ugandans who appreciated having plain maize porridge without any sweeteners for breakfast. For lunch and dinner they had either Ugali, sweet potatoes or raw cooked bananas with beans and some veggies. Most everything else was a luxury. They were pretty healthy too. The only major disease they suffered with was malaria. Chronic heart conditions and cancer are virtually unknown to them.

Sometimes it feels easier to run a little faster because of the free energy returned by the elastic recoil of your tendons which have a natural frequency of 180 steps per minute. When running slower it's usually around 170. If you keep 180 when jogging slow it will feel bouncy still and less effort.

First one of your videos I'm watching. I'm a big Greg Doucette fan myself. His diet has helped me lose 15 lb in the last 4 months. In addition I've been an avid bike rider for the last 4 years. Just one critique. Even Greg says he didn't start out with a 70 kilometer bike ride. He had to work his way up. So that was a somewhat unrealistic goal to attempt on your first try. I do a minimum of 11 miles every day and once a week I do 25 to 26. I do have an indoor setup for when there's bad weather, and according to my calorie tracker, the indoor stationary bike is a much more intense workout giving me double the caloric deficit. (1 hour outside on regular bike is about 300 calories on average, 1 hour on the indoor bike is over 800 calories on average) . Did enjoy the video, and will check out more

It’s usually eaten with some type of Leafy green vegetable. And maybe try the same cooking method with some just egg, mushroom or pinto beans. For the actual paste, do not add salt and use a non-salted corn meal. Boil the water, and then stir a little bit of your corn meal to make a porridge like mixture. Let that boil for 5 minutes and then add more to make it harder (make it as soft or hard as you want at that stage). Use a wooden spoon for this instead
