My friend and I have been wanting to go for Sharp tooth catfish on the fly for a while now but we don't really wanna risk it because where we are the snags are awful and the fish size is super unpredictable, so its between carp and Vlei Kurper

Plum Park, one of my favorite access points. I was fishing down closer to Lagrange and couldn't buy a hook set on a bass either. Usually that stretch above the park is pretty good.

I'll take cats on the fly. They're fun. If you're a C&R fisher, whatever puts a bend in the rod is great. Bass, cats, drum, gills - all fun!

I've caught quite a few when targeting crappie and bass. They're fun to catch for sure! I find wooly worms are the best, just toss them by logs and banks and watch the water churn!

I tied a bunch of Matt Bennetts Carp-it bombs, and tried my luck below a dam in Shreveport. No carp, but I learned that crappie love that fly. If anyone is trying to eat good, carp-it bomb is the way to go

@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing any particular advice beyond what's in your "fishing for bass" series for targeting striper? we have a lot of 'em all over the california coast and delta/river systems so when water is too hot to fish for trout, i'd like to start fishing for them nearby where i live.

I got questions about your boat trailers. Put that in a futur q&a in you want: How often do you change wheel bearings? How much a difference fresh and salt water does on your bearings? Do you know a miracles sealed bearing that can last forever? Thanks!

Cool cat on a fly, Alvin. And yellow cat and Flathead are the same thing, Pylodictis olivaris. There is a yellow bullhead but that’s what it is, different and a bullhead species. Flatheads are also known as Opelousas

Like you, cats are not my favorite, but I regularly tie into flatheads and channel here in IL. The first time I stepped into the Holy Water section of Michigan's Au Sable at Guide's Rest I didn't make it 50ft and I hooked a bluegill. It wasn't what I was after, but it brought an ease to my cast. Thankfully one of the anglers I was there with happened to witness it, as apparently that's a pretty rare catch there and the group I was with looked at me sideways when I got to Gates and told them about the only fish I had caught. Water therapy is good no matter what you're catching. Hell, sometimes it's good even if you're not catching, but don't tell anyone I said that. Nice cat and nice crappie!

Was going to ask what's some unusual unitential catches while fishing on this week's Q&A. I missed last week's due to inventory week for work..fyi look into a collapsible laundry hamper they work great for a stripping basket, keeps my line from hanging up on everything or me stepping on it.

What Sink Tip and Full Sinking lines do you use?
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing2 жыл бұрын
Don't really use full sink much. Mostly sink tips or integrated shooting heads. Mostly Orvis and SA lines. 10 to 30 foot heads in fast or medium sink rates.
