you don't need to thank me for being here! I thank you for these videos. about 20 years ago I started a tropical aquarium, I an incubation tank about the same size as your one in this video and my main tank held 50-60 litres. I gave it away when I moved to Finland about 6 years later. I just started thinking about have a tank where I didn't need to add lots of things to keep it healthy... But you have got aquariums back into my brain again.. and at 63 I think I might start to look at where I can get the stuff to start again I also hope that it's not very expensive here LoL... I really like what you are doing

I'm testing the natural CO2 method, here the data I got : -1L of water inside a 1.5L bottle -200g of sugar -5g of yeast The idea is the mushroom will eat the sugar and reject CO2, then with a tube you bring that CO2 in the aquarium. First try : After 2 days I couldn't get any bubbles, the yeast I used was too old, I noticed the pressure inside the bottle was increasing but very slowly. Second try : I tried some fresh yeast (the one that smell bad), I got bubbles after 15 minutes. The bottle was in a room with a temperature between 18 and 23°C, yeast is apparently more efficient between 25-35°C. Bubbles last for 6 days, the 7th day they were decreasing, the 8th day they were too rare so I renewed the whole ingredients. The mixture resulted to ethanol and smelt like alchohol, while after 2 days it smells like sulfure (bad), apparently once the ethanol level is too high it kills the yeast, I'm surprise they could live that long in such substance. According to the tutorial this mixture should had last for 3 weeks, not 1 week, but AI says it should had last 3 days, so... we need more data. I calculated the amount of bubbles and tried maths using chimicals calculations, science can't lie, this bottle should produce about 20L of CO2. So to make it last 3 weeks the only way would be to make the bottle colder as it slows down the reaction, but it would also reduce to amount of CO2 per minute, I'm looking for something reliable. I didn't notice so many changes with my plants, they are all growing but still slower than during this summer, light is 8 hours/day but they are in a room with natural light, so as the duration of the day is decreasing I suppose I should light it more. I didn't notice more algeas, fish are fine, it doesn't smell anything. According to the tutorial this bottle should produce enough CO2 for a 60L aquarium, mine is 120, so maybe it's not enough. The issue is too much CO2 could be deadly so I need to make more tests, also if the quality of yeast can produce more CO2 that's a problem for the calculation. The good thing is the yeast is less active at night if the room is cooler, while the aquarium has stable temperature, so you don't need to turn it off, which could be done by simply open the bottle to release gaz, of course it depends where you live, apparently under 15°C yeast is paralyzed. Changing the mixture took me less than 5 minutes, as bubbles appeared after 15 minutes the is no brutal lack of CO2. My idea is to use multiple bottles to make the production smoother. I calculated 1€ of yeast could last for 2 months, so with the sugar it's a very cheap method to get CO2. The only downside is the pressure in the tube makes a small noise every few seconds, but it's good to know when you must renew it. I suppose it would be possible to estimate the quality of the yeast and adjust the quantity to allow them to reproduce and get CO2 for a longer period, then adjusting the total quantiy of CO2 by adding more bottles. Summary : No big positive changes visible after a week. No negative changes either. But the process is very cool as it looks like magic, it's basically bubbles forming from a bottle for a week lol.

Thank you. I tried this method 15-20 years ago. it works. but at some point it seems tiring to make the recipe for co2 every month. so I bought a professional co2 bottle. I saw that now some special stainless steel bottles have appeared for this method www.amazon.co.uk/LYEAA-Generator-Stainless-Aquarium-Cylinder/dp/B0B5RC921R/ref=sr_1_26?nsdOptOutParam=true&sr=8-26

Thank you for sharing the list of plants and their growth. I think you will do well now since the tank is stabilized now. One thing I noticed you stuck the red tiger lotus deep in the substrate. You should not bury the bulb all the way. It should be about half way.

I like your videos been watching them from the beginning the walstad method is great and i love the way your plants grow and seeing so many different plants. I also have a planted tank but i do the father fish deep substrate method. People told me in the beginning get smaller fish. But me being me I got cichlids kribensis and they spawned 4 times so far geophagus started out with 2 but one got beat up by my female kribensis cause of the fry. 2 apistogrammas that stick to them selves but the last months I hasn't seen 1 of them so hopefully he didn't die. 6 white cloud minnows they love to school. And last but not least what I'm thinking is a pair of electric blue acrua cichlids. So with all those bigger fish my plants take a beating but still grow and have to be trimmed every other week. Thank you for the great videos you share can't wait till next weeks videos

Question everyone, do you still get shrimps to breed @28C?
@walstadmethodstepbystepАй бұрын
Several species of shrimp, including Neocaridina davidi (Cherry Shrimp) and Caridina babaulti (Baubalti Shrimp), thrive and breed well at temperatures around 28°C (82°F). In fact, studies suggest that 28°C is an optimal temperature for juvenile shrimp growth, maturity, and breeding. Some breeders even report successful breeding at temperatures as high as 29°C (84°F), although this may vary depending on the specific species and tank conditions. It’s essential to note that shrimp are sensitive to temperature fluctuations and may not breed or thrive in temperatures outside their preferred range. Additionally, other factors such as water quality, pH, and diet also play a crucial role in shrimp breeding and health. In summary, 28 degrees Celsius (82°F) appears to be a suitable temperature for breeding various species of shrimp, including Cherry Shrimp and Baubalti Shrimp. However, it’s always recommended to research the specific needs of your shrimp species and adjust tank conditions accordingly.

yes, they grew up very fast. but ONLY THE NEWLY planted plants. I think they have some nutrients accumulated in them
@greenmachineswedenАй бұрын
@@Mitrus_ That was my reaction as well. All those plants added just for a test costs about the same amount of money as a cheap co2 system and it would grow enough plants for selling and return the investment in a year. I do not see many vids about starving fish, but far too many on starving plants. I bet the plant producers love it.🤣🤣
