I saw one of Da Vinci's note books at a big exhibition in London a few years ago. Even though there were rooms and rooms of his art and designs on display, the (small!) notebook really stood out to me and humanised him. He's so legendary that it's hard to remember he was a real man. This was a really great video - thanks.

Not sure if you read about Da Vinci's early years when he worked as a food influencer and wedding planner. His stepdad was a pastry chef who got him into it. One of his inventions was a giraffe-inspired nutcracker so I think you really were channelling the spirit of Leonardo with the inspo for the Alligrator. He also had a quite a marzipan addiction as a young man, and all his earliest sculpting was done with it, until his clients and rats kept eating his work so he had to switch to clay. So I think the Bakewell Slice as his favourite Mr. Kipling might also be genuine otherwordly guidance 👀 He left a diary called the Kitchen Notebooks of Leo da V, which had a chapter called "The Machines I Have Yet to Design for my Kitchen” about 500 years before people wrote cookbooks, so I wanna check it out now to see if the Alligator is there in 🐊

With 7 hours of sleep, I could see how breaking the remaining waking hours into 4-hour blocks with 20 minute naps could equal 24. But I hate napping during the day. Thank you George for a delightful attempt at the Big Man! I could barely find a difference between your version of the ML and Leonardo;)) I agree with you about the naps. Remember that in the Renaissance people could not stay up all night without without lots of very expensive candles. There was no street lighting or Central heating. It was easy to do a bit of star gazing early and then to bed. Also Italians still have day time rests. Warmest greetings from an Australian Gran.

Your Mona Lisa is ace! I was listening to the “You’re Dead To Me” podcast episode on Leonardo last night. I assumed when they were discussing his handwriting and said he wrote back to front that they meant he wrote from right to left on the page and not actually wrote the words backwards. That’s nuts if he actually did that! He would have had to get more than 2 hours sleep a day, surely? Loved Junior’s wee yawn. And…you taught me how to chop leeks properly. 👍🏻😊😁

Thanks for making me laugh. I love your sense of humor and I love your cat. I wanted to respond that I'm someone with variable sleep needs meaning I can go for days/months with little or no sleep, and at other times, I sleep 8 or more hours per night. I've never been diagnosed with any form of mental illness. I've been self employed for over 30 years. I do not take drugs - recreational or prescription, but something very interesting happened to me while living in a very rural area (off grid, catchment water, no TV, radio or internet) on Big Island in Hawaii. I meditated a lot and only ate organic mostly vegetarian foods. During the 2 years I lived on Big Island, I averaged 2 hours of sleep per night and never took naps. I was fit, healthy, happy and mentally alert. As soon as I returned to "civilization", I required more sleep. I'm guessing that without the stress, electromagnetic pollution and chemicals so persistent in "normal" culture, my body needed less time to recover, thus I needed less sleep. Perhaps this explains how Da Vinci thrived on 2 hours of sleep + naps.

My second son is ambidextrous. When he was small he used to write backward like Leonardo with his left hand. Then he would switch the pencil to his right hand and write the correct way. I would get whole pages with the lines going every which way, because he would just change hands as one got tired of writing. He finally settled on writing with his left hand and doing more mechanical type things with his right hand.

That was one smooth segue into the sponsorship. I saw it coming, but still smooth. Your drawing is tremendously better than anything I could have done. I'm about to see a 6th doctor for insomnia. Without meds, I can only sleep 4 hours max. With the minimum dose of medicine, I am foggy-headed during the day (which then leads to me feeling bad about myself for not getting anything done. Therefore, I'm currently taking 1/8-1/4 of a 25 mg orange tablet and that gives me at least 6 hours of sleep (I won't say which med, but anyone who is taking it will know)

I don’t sleep well at all, I averaged around 4.5 hours a night last week and only about 3.5 hours the week before, I don’t function very well so I’m pretty sure that DaVinci must have slept well at night too. Sally-Lunn bread: 1 quart of flour 1 teaspoon full of salt 1 tablespoon full of white sugar Rub in a heaping tablespoonful of butter and lard in equal parts then rub in an Irish potato, mashed fine half a teacup of yeast 3 eggs well beaten make up the dough to the consistency of light bread dough. with warm water in winter, and cold in summer. Knead half an hour. When it has risen light, handle lightly, put into a cake mould and bake without a second kneading. now if you can understand those fancy talking instructions have fun baking! lol!

George, I bet someone wants to buy your version of Ms. Mona Lisa. BTW she wasn't Scottish so the red hair doesn't quite work. I hope your leek and potato soup was good. One way to reduce spilling the cut veg all of the stove is to cut the veg up on a flexible light plastic cutting mat (available at Dollar type stores) and a bench scraper (used for bread making and scooping up ingredients off a counter). The cutting mat bends easily so it's easier to transfer food to a pot, or you can help guide it in using a steel or plastic bench scraper. Lee Yuan Kew was the first Prime Minister of Singapore and is considered the father of modern Singapore; he also was bad at art, so he developed his communication skills instead. He turned swampy poor Singapore into a first-world amazing city/state in 25 years!

Perhaps if, like DaVinci, you arrayed yourself in the highest quality hand-made clothing as you go through your daily routine! DaVinci is described by others as being glamorously handsome, striding through the streets of the cities in which he lived in signature rose-colored capes, which, along with his reputation as a genius familiar with kings and popes, surely gave him quite the air. Thusly arrayed, you could part the crowded aisles of the village supermarket, casting your cape aside to grab a pack of Mr. Kiplings, as fellow citizens cast a knowing eye your way.
