I don't get why people are worried about it being made in China. Given all the problems (mostly minor) with the original 790/890 if anything the CFMoto built bikes are going to be better than the Austrian built ones. IMO the 790 is a great bike for the price that as you mention seems to be left out of all the comparisons. it's less than a T700, and in the same range as the Honda Transalp 750, and Tuareg 660.

It's not hard to understand when you consider that everything built in China is done in order to cut costs. Their industrial base is so large they simply don't need to increase quality the way the Japanese market did back in the 80's. People used to think Japanese bikes were cheap (because they were cheaplu-made), until they started regularly outperforming their European and American counterparts. We've yet to see that from the Chinese market.
@jesses1589

What people fail to understand is things are built to a price specification in China. Yes, you can still get the same cheap-o dual sport for 1,500-2k or you can spend many times that and get something that will last a long time. Even my cheap Chinese bashan brozz 250 dual sport is still going fine after 5,000 miles, mods and some maintenance. Yep, you can tell that the quality is lower of course, but for my first starter bike it was perfect. I didn't care if I took a spill and wrecked it, lol.

There are 2 reasons why I never thought about buying a KTM (and I'm from Austria). 1) colour: I really don't wanna have an orange bike. 2) and that's the biggest reason: reliabilty The most important thing for me is that a motorcycle is reliable. I know a few guys who ride KTMs and every single one of them had massive (and sometimes expensive) problems. And that's really sad because I think performance wise, these bikes are great. and the new ktm790 is not as ugly as all the other bikes from team orange.

I was angry at first hearing CFmoto makes them but it's not like KTMs were reliable in the first place lol so I guess i'll get over it, as long as they prove reliable enough. Is a bit annoying though, because you can get a tenere for cheaper and have 0 issues basically and it is made in japan, which does matter, that japanese factor, you can have a tenere for 30 years and I bet if you needed some tiny obscure part you would be able to get it through the huge dealer parts network.
@crazyosva
@crazyosva Жыл бұрын
actually, CF moto SSV are more reliable that Japanese brands. Ask the bord patrols or forest guards
@KRANKiT
@KRANKiT Жыл бұрын
In my place, you can't get a Tenere for cheaper. At the end of the day, it depends on what a rider wants. With a Tenere, you trade comfort, tubeless tires and general modern amenities for a Japanese build and reliability. For some, it's worth it. For others, not so much. If I was to spend my own money on such an ADV bike, honestly I would not buy one without cruise control for example. But that would be my use case, for other people other bikes could make more sense.

Great video, I am actually shocked at the price. I never look at new bikes because they are so expensive. I owned a 790 Adv R from 2019 that I sold for a 701 enduro. I wonder how this bike would compare to my old 790. If I remember correctly, the R model has a slightly steeper head angle, which makes it steering way better than the standard model. Sure the weight down low makes it feel lighter, but it also makes it unstable and harder to balance at low speed, (just balance a shovel in the palm of your hand with heavy end up vs down and you'll see what I mean), I found it wants to tuck the front under in slow turns , doesn't have much feel on the road and is harder to keep straight slowly rolling up to a stop at lights compared to a taller centre of gravity. Just my experience.
@KRANKiT
@KRANKiT Жыл бұрын
Interesting, in my experience it was the exact opposite. Having the weight down low requires less input from the rider to balance it, and thus making it easier.
@silverdale3207
@silverdale3207 Жыл бұрын
@@KRANKiT Agree it takes less input, but that in my opinion gives it less feel and makes it harder to keep it straight at low speed , I got back on my old GS 650 with it's low centre of gravity after spending a lot of time on my top heavy T7 and it felt almost uncontrollable compared to the T7. The T7 is a bitch if it starts to tip but the height gives it more predictable handling and better weight transfer to tyres for cornering and braking, it's just a bastard to pick up if you drop it. There's quite a science to it and pros and cons to both. A good read is the myth of centre of gravity where he explains why a lot of bikes are faster when they raise the COG.That being said that's just my experience riding it, I guess everyone is different.

@@Kelly-oq9nh no, I've ridden both that's what I've observed. Someone did a time test through road comes on a sport bike with a low COG, them added weight up high and improved the speed through the same t test. There's quite a bit of research saying the same, but there are times a low COG is an average, presumably like crawling over rocks in a river crossing or such but that's only one part of riding dynamics.

@@Kelly-oq9nh imagine placing the shovel blade-end down on the ground, then from handle try balancing the shovel. @@KRANKiT Yes, the plant is in Laguna, Philippines. It's called KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing Inc. (KAMMI) and they make the 790s for the Asia Pacific market, including Australasia/Oceania. I don't know if they supply any other markets.

@@asundersweet one, as you realized, it’s an exaggeration. In fact, I exaggerated all those traits like not having the best brakes, nor the best suspensions, and so on. That was exactly the point of those statements, this bike isn’t the best at anything. BUT, it is a complete package. You don’t need to be the best at anything to be one of the best overall. And that’s exactly what I said. All those exaggerations and comparisons were specifically added to prove this point. Also, I would like to add, in my opinion, character is not related to the price. Example, my 1.5k Ducati monster had heaps more character than the double the price FZ6 I had some time ago. Plus, character is subjective too, so it’s hard to quantify on a scale.

I'm seriously torn between this and the Honda Transalp. You obviously get MUCH more with the KTM but I'm concerned with the reliability and long distance comfort. The Honda - you know you're getting reliable and comfort...but the KTM is so much more bike for roughly the same money that I can't move past it lolol. I've been told that the camshaft issue was solved in 2022 and I've been told it hasn't been fixed. I've also heard from just about everyone that the electronics don't seem to be reliable. Does anyone have any hard factual stats on the services of KTM. Meaning hard facts on cam shaft issues and electronic reliability? Ride safe out there guys.

@@Username-2 ride a KTM or Beta dual sport or dirt bike and you understand how far behind they are. Even ride a KTM vs a Beta and you see how far behind they all are in terms of refinement and comfort. Compare a BMW RT to an FJR and the lack of tech. Euro companies may be less reliable but they're not playing it safe with old heavy crude designs. And my KTM has never had an issue in 240 hours. That's not a bike for entry level riders. You need to have some expertise off-road. And it's not a Chinese bike. It's manufactured in China like many brands due to cost reduction. I find this video in most cases inaccurate. This bike is really amazing to the hands of someone that knows bikes, loves bikes, loves to learn more about riding styles and loves pure adventure riding. So after doing some Enduro miles or attending an Enduro school try this bike. Until then stick to nakeds.
