Yes, you’re right. Building overhead train lines is cheaper compared to subway or underground. However, the Metro Manila subway and Makati subway, both under construction are more cost efficient if it’s underground. Main reason: no more space or area above ground or more expensive to buy the right of way to clear the route, hence the govt decided to do the subway. Metro Manila subway is financed by Japan while Makati subway is being built by a Chinese company together with the City of Makati.

Based on our study as a Railway Engineer. In 2003 only LRT-2 phase one was operated. Stations from Santolan to Araneta-Cubao, and it was on the birthday of former president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. A year later, the remaining stations were being inaugurated except for Recto, which opened on October 29, 2004. Although the original design of LRT-2 was from Antipolo to Tutuban, East stations such as Masinag and Mariki-Pasig stations had some delays due to different issues that came up, while in Tutuban station, where I have no idea yet if they'll still push it through since there where lot of roads, buildings, and businesses will be affected if they will continue the construction. As per why the Philippines don't construct a subway or railway that goes through the city center, first, yes, it is because of the cost, but also it is a very long process, rights of way, and the availability of technology. But the good news is that the Metro Manila Subway Project has already begun, the tunnel boring machines that will be used in the project are already here in the Philippines, and soil testing is underway already. It will connect north to south, with a direct link to the airport. It is funded by the Japanese government through a loan agreement via JICA.

Yes, LRT Line 2 is Very Delayed, So Please, the Government with president BBM, Should Implement the Land Acquisition Reforms, and have a China Style Land Acquisition, that Fast-Tracks the Construction of Infrastructure, and in my opinion, the Maharlika Fund is Considered Good News because it helps the Philippines to Become First-World, and Full of Infrastructures, because without Sovereign Wealth Fund, the 4 Asian Tigers will Not Become First-World, so meaning, to say, I Can't afford the Waiting for more than 5 Years for a Metro Line to Be Completed, we need only 4-5 Years, for Both the PNR-NSCR and Metro Manila Subway to be Completed, and Inside of it, it will look like China's Modern Subway, and Railway Stations, and Because Metro Manila Subway is Near to the CBDs, it will require a Robot Train Pusher that is More Efficient, for the Commuters to be Packed to the Train during the Rush Hours.

Yes the Subways underground is actually not cheap... In context the ongoing Metro Manila subway cost is 10 Billion dollars with 16 stations and run 33 kilometers... While elevated Mrt in Metro Manila cost only 1-3 billion USD... The Jakarta-Bandung High speed train cost 8 billion USD...
@สุทธิศักดิ์มธุรพงศากุล3 ай бұрын
Construction of an underground train is three times more expensive than an elevated train, but the construction time is not much different. Maintenance of underground stations is higher and repairs are higher. In Thailand, especially in Bangkok, it is mostly Thai companies that can build all the civil works because we have Thai companies that also accept construction work abroad.

In the southern part of Metro Manila, there is Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa city and SM Southmall in Las Piñas city. Malling has become a way of life in the Philippines. SM alone has so many malls in Metro Manila, that some Manilans don't know exist like; SM Sta. Speaking of complications and costs in building an elevated rail line against an underground metro particularly in Bangkok, let's compared Bangkok City against Hong Kong and even Manila to some degree. Both Hong Kong and Manila sit mostly on solid rock right beneath the surface being on located islands or on mountainside right on the sea (as in Kowloon), and thus boring through rock is a rather straightforward proposition despite all the rock that the boring machine has to chew through. In contrast, Bangkok sits on marsh land, so much so that if you dig down less than 2 meters anywhere in Bangkok your hole will be flooded with water almost immediately, and this presented a big problem in trying to build underground -- until the development of more recent tunnel construction technology. But also important is that to build tunnels underneath marshy Bangkok is much, much more costly than just sinking pylons into the earth to build elevated railroad. Even then, Bangkok eventually ran out of large strategic road on which to locate the elevated railroads and finally have to go underground anyway despite the greater costs. So why Manila is not going underground (At least not yet)? You can assume that going elevated is the cheaper option!
