@SXZ-dev20 күн бұрын
@@geoman1420 Not just that, there's a technical reason which is that they have to test every single model for every release and you'd want to keep that test bench relatively manageable and lean in order to be able to ensure quality and reliability. Apple does things like that by design and tbh it's what i would do also, it gets really annoying having to support hardware from 16 years ago when you're building your new software and having to run extensive testing on dozens more machines than you have to currently Opencore does a LOT of work to make the new releases work on old machines and unlike Apple they provide no warranties, if your machine gets bricked and your data is lost forever, that's your problem

this is why i don't like apple that much, there is practically no issue with these older machines running the newest stuff aside from apple saying "no"
@SXZ-dev20 күн бұрын
There's many issues that Opencore has to provide extensive patching for, from missing drivers they add in to hacks they need to perform to get around deprecated graphics APIs (which despite their efforts still don't work on every model), they do a lot of work with Opencore, Apple doesn't just say no, Apple makes a decision based on how many machines they can realistically expect their developers and engineers to keep testing and dogfooding internally before public release. Opencore has no legal liabiity, if you brick the machine with their upgrades and lose all your data that's your problem, with Apple official software it's a different story, people just expect things to work reliably and that's on Apple to ensure. They do that with dogfooding and internal testing but obviously you don't want hundreds of models being tested at once, you want to keep that test bench relatively lean, so they remove support, clean up the drivers and focus on being as efficient as possible with the newer hardware. You can agree or disagree but it's a technically valid business strategy

How is this possible then? I have a 2010 iMac which doesn't support Metal in the GPU which I believe Sequoia needs or there will be no boot screen. This looked to have a boot screen has it had a GPU swap? by Default surely this would not support Metal.
@PCReloadedАй бұрын
No metal support at all. There are gpu patches which I think work to translate some calls, but there's still issues. That's why the menu bar is glitch and some apps just outright don't work (steam glitches, games etc).
