Honestly ALL the top tier Multi Effects Units are amazing and if you spend sometime with them you can get perfect professional sounds out of them... With that said, since last firmware update 4.0.0 HeadRush (Prime, Core and now Flex Prime) has became the most complete unit out there (at least for me), I firmly believe that because now we have stopped looking into sound quality (all the top units have reached the top) and now what makes a Unit "better" than the other is what they provide in terms of extra features... So as far as I can see no other company can beat Headrush now, they basically got the whole thing... I believe that the only reason why we don't talk more about the Headrush products it's because they still the "new kid on the block" and its community still kind of small (but it's growing fast)... I've owned Boss, Line 6 and some other brands but Headrush has fulfill all my expectations like no other.

I think it is awesome to have a professional, gigging musician help the community by providing the pros and cons of all the units out there, and there are a lot of them now. I am a Helix floor user and you are right, the increases in DSP now are substantial. Thanks for another great review.

Headrush flex prime with good quality clones/IRs (usually paid for ones) sounds as good as any other device from the "big boys" (kemper, QC, tonex, etc.). On top of that, it has a great price point and features (particularly, connectivity, looper, DSP power, super clones, etc..).

One thing Ive been struggling with is the wah. When I add it to a rig, it’s ALWAYS ON. Like there’s no way (that I can find) to have it activated only when you touch the pedal. So if you have a rig with a wah, or whammy, it’s always on.

Can external Foot Switches be added, if the 3 onboard are not enough? Does the Looper have auto-sensing to start recording when it "hears" the playing start? Is the Looper multi-track so different sounding Presets can be recorded to different tracks?

Hi Steve. great video, and great playing, as always. This Headrush Flex Prime device seems to have great feature set. But actually, as the first touch screen multifx, Headrush has always done a nice job of the user experience. I especially love the fact that the editor is mobile - thats huge! Unfortunately for Headrush, in their early days, they got hurt for "not sounding as good" as other multifx / modeling devices. You didn't really address the tones in your video - how do they compare to Line 6, QC, etc? I don't mean which is closer to the real amp being modeled (a somewhat useless benchmark in my opinion), but rather which one just sounds better (or alternatively, which one is easier to dial in)?
@djkolcun6 күн бұрын
Steve, have you tried creating setlists? Specifically, adding Songs to the setlist? There was a video out about a year ago (Al Joseph made it) and he demonstrated the capability. I have a new owner/user (new to Headrush ecosystem - just grabbed a Flex) and have an upcoming gig, and thought a "Setlist" would be a great idea...but I can't find a way to add Songs - just rigs. Am I missing something?
@SteveSterlacci6 күн бұрын
You name the rig according to the song, then the rig order is your setlist. I personally dont use 1 preset per song. I try to use as few as possible

Not an easy question, but QC or Headrush FLEX Prime? I just play in my room and some small gigs, budget is not an issue, but that doesn't mean that I will pay extra for the same/almost the same thing.

You are incorrect at 3:58 saying you can’t do that with any other unit. The Boss GX-10 can have up to 15 blocks, can have multiple instances of the same effect, blocks can be ordered in any way you desire and it can also do split signal chains for $100 less.

It's a great unit. i have worked with and own the PRIME since it came out. But it has one major con...it does not have user defined scales option for the harmonizer. If your in a classic rock band as a single guitarist doing covers you need this badly to cover bands like Thin Lizzy, Boston, etc. I have prodded Headrush support for years to get this going and there still dropping the ball. Most of your other high end modelers have this feature. This is why my BOSS GT1000 Core beats out the Headrush units.

Million dollar question…this or HX stomp XL? I realize it’s not exactly apples to apples but…
@algorithm007ify16 күн бұрын
If you combine the flex prime with good quality amp clones and IR's, it beats the HX stomp. Modelling-wise, I would say the HX stomp would be a little bit better (especially for their newer models), IMO. However, with the money you save for the flex prime, you can get really great amp clones from several sellers (Boutique clones, choptones, tonejunkie, studio rats, roby rocks, SixStringLabs, etc.).
@MrShane515016 күн бұрын
Thank you! I purchased a hx stomp xl and was going to combine with a Tonex for modeling as Steve had previously shown. This is a cheaper alternative
@algorithm007ify16 күн бұрын
@@MrShane5150 that's a good solution. The only think that might not be the best is the latency (adding up on each device), however, it will be negligible and probably unnoticeable.

I had a Headrush Gigboard some years ago until it has some USB issues, then I‘ve switched to a HX Stomp … it could do a lot but to much parameters in depth … maybe cool for enthusiasts but for me to much and editing feels like a pain, so it never feels right and somehow I don‘t really liked the ampmodels and I‘ve missed the ease of use from the gigboard where I only need a few minutes to dial in a sound I like. So I bought a Headrush Core some months ago … if I didn‘t have it already I would go with the new Flex Prime
