From a former Marine of 16 years, this is the female Marine diet. I was in the Marines from 10/2004-3/2020. Our diet was heavily restricted and we honestly lost fat and gained a shit ton of muscle for obvious reasons. We were also NEVER sedentary. We were constantly moving. Our BMI was supposed to be propionate with our height. Food portions for women were heavily controlled. Some women that were already “overweight,” had to go on dietary trays. So you can only imagine what they looked and tasted like. We had to weigh in every night after showers. IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. If you were overweight you were called everything from pig to fatty. Weigh ins happened after we had our 3 meals of the day, rigorous schedule and after our food has digested. Also, this diet was for boot camp only. Once you’re in the fleet, every food is fair game. But at a consequence, because the Marines have VERY strict height and weight requirements. If you end up being overweight male or female, there was a harsh consequence. Of course other than women that were pregnant. In the early days of boot camp girls would sneak peanut butter packets from the chow hall. We didn’t have ice cream btw, we had low fat chocolate pudding lol. And we were called fat if we decided to eat the pudding. So yea WELCOME TO PARRIS ISLAND, SC “HOME OF THE SAND FLEAS.”

@@noonecares2462 I agree that in life it is better to be generous and kind, but in the military, there is not much room for this kind of relaxed compassion. I was in the infantry, and a dude on my deployment was a large guy, built light a tight-end in football, but he had a bit of a belly. He was strong, but those afghan mountains in the summer time are brutal, and on our second R&S patrol he fell out and had to take a knee. Guess who had to carry his heavy ass and all of his gear. Me and the rest of the squad. That could have got us shot up, and if it wasn’t for the fact that it was too hot for the Taliban, we very well would have been. The heavier you are, the more of a liability you are. Nobody wants to call someone’s mom and tell them their boy got shot carrying a fat body to shade. Kindness is a virtue that kills in places like that.

The military diet brought me from 210 lbs at 14 down to 130 (not healthy for me). Its best as a training tool to make you think about how much you need different. Granted, i stuck to the diet for months not the recommended 3 days. Once you do it a healthy amount of food seems like a feast. It works so well in fact I’ve struggled to eat and bulk in the ~10 years since, and haven’t had high body fat since. After this the only think that you have to worry about is excessive calories from beverages and alcohol. Sounds like a bad thing but id rather diet to eat more than diet to eat less in the years since. PS its way easier if the whole time you think “ there are people on this planet who don’t get to eat today, im lucky to be able to have this” and that’s another huge point , which is gratitude and humbled for what you have. Remember your lucky for struggling to loose weight.
@urphakeandgey6308 Жыл бұрын
I think the mantra of "some people don't even get to eat today" is a good one. Too many people trying to lose weight will eat "healthy," but REFUSE to reduce portions. Sometimes they even increase portions because "healthier" foods are often less filling. I knew a guy who always proclaimed he was trying to lose weight. He'd pay attention to every ingredient on the label and would refuse to eat the vast majority of things... Yet I would watch him have 6 boiled eggs as a SIDE dish for one meal. He'd have multiple plates full of mostly chicken and salmon, have 6 boiled eggs, maybe a snack, and then scarf down a pint of "healthy" ice cream. He'd brag the whole time too about how "healthy" he was... When anyone with a lick of sense could tell he was eating more than a day's worth of food in one sitting.

Never heard of this "military diet" so I was really surprised to hear that it was really low calorie, because most military training loads you up on calories because of the sheer amount of energy you burn in training. The closest thing I can think of to this is Ranger School, but they give you so little food and so little sleep to put as much mental strain on you as possible, because it is a leadership course, and they are trying to teach you how to lead under all kinds of stress compounded together.
@amartellacci37652 жыл бұрын
The military diet does not actually have military origins, though the legend goes it was to get soft new recruits to shave off a few pounds in a hurry. It is based off a short paper written by William Banting in 1869 called, Letter on Corpulence. It is basically a precursor to modern low carb diets. It is available in several places online. The "military" aspect to it is more about the discipline it takes to follow.

Normally Will's videos are through-and-through funny to me but honestly, watching this one upset me a little because it resonated so much. When you spend your life as a yo-yo dieter desperate to lose weight, this stupid military diet comes up all the time and everyone's tried it. And seeing how Will struggled on 1200 calories, when 1200 calories is this random catch-all number that MyFitnessPal and other sites assign to most women in order to lose weight... it makes you hungry, it makes you miserable, and the loss doesn't last. Thanks for doing this video Will, I think that a lot of people will hopefully see and appreciate the mental impact it had on you and how genuine you were in expressing those feelings.
@gunsandcommissions2 жыл бұрын
Will was miserable because his daily calorie requirements are probably closer to 3000-3300 and he was severely restricting them. That's why his dietician said he's going to gain everything back. Because it's untenable. Also, he was eating a lot of carbs and sugar and really nothing that was satiating. I guarantee the choice to eat steak for dinner (instead of pork or chicken) was because he needed the fat badly and didn't wanto to feel like he was starving. Typically, people who struggle with "yo-yo" diets are pushing it too far in the name of calorie restrictions and they can't keep it up. And they're choosing the wrong foods. Carbs and sugars (even from fruits and "healthy" breads and especially "diet" shakes and smoothies) trigger a strong insulin response and cause cravings. Eat a lot of fats and proteins and stop trying to get skinny overnight and eat less than you burn and you will lose weight every single time. Use myfitnesspal or chronometer to track your calories (all of them, be honest with yourself) and learn what portion sizes look like.
@MrLugar452 жыл бұрын
1200 cals for Will is like 600 cals for you tho

1200 is not a catch all number. You put in your age weight gender height and a whole host of factors. Then you put in your goals. It then calculates how many calories you would need to eat each day to lose x fat by x date. If your goals are to lose 25 pounds in a month then of MyFitnessPal will assign you really low calories.

Are you referring to MREs? They are not "well balanced" at all...take a look at the macro profile on the majority of them and they are garbage. They are designed to keep you full and satiated for long periods of time in the field, which is why the protein content is so low - so the body doesn't waste metabolic energy digesting it. I think only a few of the MREs I can remember have "decent" macros - Shredded Beef, White Chunk Tuna, maybe the beef stew.

This hitting home . I ate 1200 calories or less with working out and never understood why I was drained. There were days I eat only 800- 900. I lost weight but also lost my good areas like hips, thighs, and butt (I liked my thick physique just wanted to lose stomach) . I got so skinny my family was worried seeing me on Christmas but I didn’t understand why . Now I’m pregnant and having issues, yo yo diets are terrible y’all even if you make it a lifestyle like I did . I’m now having difficulty with my pregnancy and food and staying active. Seeing him struggling on this diet was weird. Weirder when he said 1 meal for him was the entire meal plan for the day. That’s like a sin in my eyes. I understand though he does massive workouts though but when you’re used to 900 calories and getting by and hating yourself for being hungry - it’s a problem. It never caught up to me until now where my baby is basically fighting me for food as my mom is says.

Love your coffee mug. This is very triggering. I used to do this diet back in the 80's when my friends and I lived on diets. The thinking was that you would start the week (Monday through Wednesday) on a diet, eat reasonably the rest of the week, and then we'd be nice and skinny for the weekend. Unfortunately, after the bars on Saturday night, we would hit the diner and put all the weight we had lost during the week back on. Vicious cycyle. It was bad. We were always hungry, and we started smoking to curb our hunger. This is a bad diet. I'm glad to see you stuck it out and went the full 72 hours. Cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs are GROSS.
I did this diet back in 2017, lost almost 40 pounds. That ice cream made me so happy. I would heat up the banana then put it on it. If I knew what I knew now, I could have turned it into a one meal day. I kept the weight off. I lost 6 pounds consistently for every 3 days I did it.
