Great video! SM4 sounds like an all around great pick especially for the price. looks a little like the AT2020
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
You’re right! It does look super similar to the AT 2020! Also the Heil PR30 (although that last one is dynamic not condensers like the other two. Good eye!

@@ThisMichaelBrown oh yeah. Fantastic for live vocals. I do a review of it here on the channel, but it’s more in a studio setting. There are lots of others on YT that may be more of a fit for stage demos.

How does this compare to the SM58 Beta. Would love to get a condenser mic that sounds like the 58 Beta.

Man shure did it again, this mic sounds decent! How's the room reverb capture on it? Is it good at not taking the room Reverb too much?
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
Great question! I always am super leary when podcasting with condenser mics for that very reason. While I wouldn't recommend using the SM4 without any room treatment, the reverb that you hear on this video is fairly minimal with only carpeting and some wall treatment. I still have a fairly open ceiling and of course glass monitors in front of me - but I was surprisingly pleased at how little room noise it picked up. Does that help you?
@Tepnomusic2 ай бұрын
@Dealcasters yeah it does, I'm considering it for my wife. She's currently using an sm7b for her podcast and voice over needs, but this mic would be a great gift for her. What preamp did you use for this? Which interface? Not sure if you said it of If it's written somewhere.
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
Rodecaster Pro 2. Processing: off. So, any decent interface with phantom power will give you the juice! Focusrite Scarlett, Shure MVX2U for more minimalist setups, etc. what interface is she currently using?

Hello! Thanks for the review and comparison. I dont seem to find anywhere whats the self noise specs.

@@Dealcasters The problem is Shure hides self-noise parameter in the specification because it's very high - 19dB(A). And reviewers didn't present a real sound of this mic, without gating or de-noising...

other than the LS208, what condenser microphones do you recommend for recording environments with little to no across the treatment.

@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
Yes, I do. I have owned a NT-1 in the past, and the dual diaphragm is definitely a noticeable upgrade. Don't forget about good sound treatment as it's still a condenser and is sensitive to noise. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

will it still be good in an untreated room?
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
For recording vocals or instruments, it should be good - depending of course what kind of room you're in. Hopefully you don't have a lot of reflective surfaces like glass, or you'll get some sound reflections (reverb) that you may not want. For podcasting with any condenser mic, we always recommend a well treated room to minimize any "echo" or reflections from your computer screens, desk, non-carpeted floor, etc. Does that help you? Thanks for watching!
@SomebodyPickaName2 ай бұрын
dual diaphragm but only cardoid pattern huh? I would have thought for sure that there'd be figure 8 on there if it had dual diaphragm, but I guess not.
@Dealcasters2 ай бұрын
Correct, cardioid polar pattern- so only from the front of the mic where the logo is.

I disagree, it just sounds different. Sm7b is clearly more mid focused, Shure sm4 is smoother in the mids and sibilance, has better high frequencies on it.

The SM4 definitely makes those highs sound better! The SM7b is a beast, and definitely gives voices a more boomy, “broadcast sound.” Great take!
