I actually introduced myself to only ONE person through my whole life...it worked though - we are still very good friends) Being introverted is difficult af...not beacuse I'm not ok with it, but because you should meet everyone's expectations like "why you have no boyfriend?" "how can you stay at home for a week?" "why are you not going to the party?" "why are you so sad?"... I actually wish I was extraverted so I don't have to deal with this type of questions.

Chocolatier No, not exactly. In my school I'm friends with a girl who is really popular because she's outgoing, weird, and funny. There's another girl who everyone likes but is more quiet. She isn't usually surrounded by people, but people still like her.

Well, take into account actions and body language, and yeah, there's a ton of quiet people that are popular. Half the people are shy. But of course they aren't going to be on top. Some people take subconscious advantage of shy people.

Laura it doesn't mean you have to wear them everyday but somebody with a completely black wardrobe is showing something that's happening with them. I own a lot of black but I also love hot pink and Royal Purple and have a lot of Jewel tone colors more than black clothes. I also have a cat and black doesn't do well with a gray and white cat. I love black and I have a number of pieces that I adore but an all-black wardrobe? Nope.

I met Sara at Shane and Ryan's meet and hang at Midsummer Scream in July, she was kind off in the corner m i guess bc the people didn't recognize her and they were there for the guys. Renard Ryan a lot of people think introverts are just shy and socially awkward people or stray away from social events and that's NOT TRUE. Introverted people just mean that they get their energy from spending time to themselves or in areas as to what they find relaxing. So say an introvert goes out to some parties or social events for a few days, well then they feel socially drained and just wanna be to themselves afterwards so they can regain their energy to go out again. Unlike an extroverted person, they get their energy BY going to these social events.

It's easier to talk to people in a job or in a scripted situation than it is to talk to people socially. I can talk in front of a group with no problem as long as I know what I'm going to say. But casually socializing with people is extremely difficult for me. Like her I think I'm bothering them. I'm terrible at small talk.

I think a lot of people are like "don't even worry, you're introverted, it's okay!" but as an introvert I think it's easy to be so in our own heads that we don't realize or truly care if we offend people because of how much we feel our introversion is justified. Seeing this made me realize that it's not about popularity, but to bring people together and make connections is actually a really great thing. I never say hi to people or ask how they are and I assume I come across in a similar way, but it is so important to actually give a hoot. This changed my perspective a lot.

Just started uni and I've been trying to be more outgoing. Sometimes I've made a real fool of myself but mostly it's been going okay. It just really isn't my thing to be overly outgoing however, I have now found a group of people I accually really like AND some other random people which is nice to have as well. @@cortisol_induced_coma It went very well! I would say the best tips I have are that: 1- start talking to the other ''shy-looking'' people. Then you wont feel as intimidated. Most of them are just like us, they want to make friends but dont know how to start. This is how I made 75% of my friends. 2- but then also learn to let those shy people who dont become more open towards you go. I am still not outgoing enough to carry on a conversation with a wall and wasting social energy on them wont benefit you in the long run. This will build you a group of friends that will attract other potential friends :) I hope it goes well for you!

I don't think it's necessarily about making friends. For instance at work I always try and be friendly, my friend at work tends to rub people the wrong way. If I ask my boss for something she's really cool with me about it. My friend on the other hand tends to have issues when she asks. That's just one example but there are plenty of situations that pays to be friendly and likeable. I'm not saying to be fake to people either just be kind and treat people the way you want to be treated. You catch more flies with honey then vinegar :)

Totally relate to her. I used to be a recluse in school. Mostly kept to myself and didn't really interact or went out. But then I moved abroad for higher education and I told myself I would change my attitude. And it's been 2 years and I have an amazingly diverse social life, some of the greatest friends ever and memories that I will forever cherish. It wasn't an easy journey, there were days when I felt really lonely and disgruntled, but I kept at it. I kept trying to be happier and more outgoing and now I am so much happier. I truly understood that we are social creatures and definitely better in a group.

Ok, i call bulls*it on the "to do" list because literally i do that. I wear bright clothes, i ask a few questions, i smile a whole bunch, i tell jokes. But i'm the most ignored person in school. People forget i'm there. The TEACHERS forget i'm in class. Once my science teacher was doing attendance and he called out for me because he apparently "didn't see me". He asked "Has anyone seen Gaby today?" And EVERYONE SAID "no" WITH THE MOST BORED LOOK!!! I HAD TO RAISE MY HAND AND SAY HERE! Quite loudly too!! Everyone turned around and said "oh" and turned back.. And it hurt... Me being quite an introverted person, it still hurts to be forgotten... Because my goal is to be more "out there". Make more friends beyond the three friends i have... But it just sucks to be forgotten...

Also the smiling thing is sooo crucial x) Sara has her corners of the mouth going down all the time and when she talks to them it's obviously painful for her (hearing it in the voice and the forced smile), but I think that is something you can learn! Start smiling at yourself, think about what makes you smile and think about what you like about the person you are talking to. That makes it way easier than the thought "oh God I have to smile so that he or she will like me". What makes you actually happy? Share it, let it shine ;)

I'm naturally shy and get anxiety nearly every time I'm about to have a social interaction with someone I'm not entirely comfortable with. But since I've moved from school to school so much, I've had to do what Sarah's doing in this video all the time. It gets easier the more you do it. The anxiety is always there, but at least you know you can overcome it.

I'm glad seeing the positive outcome for you. What some shy or low-self-esteem people don't realize is that they sometimes come off as self-centered or unfriendly. For example when people with confidence offer their help, their advice, make others feel welcome, respond to invitations ect. it's making them really likeable but it comes from a place of feeling confident that they actually can contribute something, that their opinion is important to someone or that the host is eager to know whether they come to the party or not. Whereas some shy or low-self-esteem people subcinciously think that they don't have anything valuable to offer, that Noone would want to hear their advice or that nobody will notice whether they actually showed up or not. But that us not the case! Others actually would like to hear from them, their help is needed and people wonder about it when they don't show up.. I think for some that is very important to realize 😉 I have some friends like that and I'm sorry but they often come off as jerks when they don't mean to in situations like the ones listed above and more...

I once had laryngitis for 2 weeks. Most of my co-workers did not notice. However, many of them spent a LOT more time talking to me, basically treating me if I were their best friend. While I understood that being a good listener made me more likable, I found it odd that I started liking them more as well. I also learned a very important lesson: you do a lot better job of listening if you aren't figuring out what you can say next!

So I think that we might be the same person lol... but in all seriousness I really appreciate this video. I always feel like people like me don't belong in social, cool environments, but when I see Sara I feel like she belongs. They appreciate her for who she is even though she struggles with the social side. That makes me feel really good, and like putting in the effort is actually worth it. Whereas a lot of times I worry that I just don't belong in those kinds of environments. Thanks Sara!

Even though being popular or likable to the masses doesn't really matter, I have mad respect for Sara on this; I'm a cripplingly shy introvert and this is really REALLY hard to do. I also really admire her courage in being honest in her fears of saying "hi". Huge level of respect after this video

Although a likeable person could de popular, popular doesn't equal likeable! Also there's nothing wrong with shyness. It's not something you should change. Introverts get uncomfortable with small talk, it's not a bad thing. It's the other people that should start appreciate introverts, not introverts try to change who they are.

As a former 'nice girl', I used to follow those rules a lot, actually, except for the bright clothes. But I smiled a lot, was always ready to help, and asked people about their weekend/themselves. But I often experienced that people didn't seem to like me more, some people even seemed to find it annoying. And while some people love to talk about themselves, they never really asked me the same. I think I was more tolerated than liked. For a while, I shut myself in, and that obviously didn't help much. I think the key is to strike a good balance; if you overdo it, it can seem off and awkward to people. You need to find a genuine interest/respect for the person, because people can often tell subconsciously if you do it to be liked, rather than because you are actually interested. And also confidence, which I definitely didn't have. You can easily tell on a persons posture, movements and tone of voice how uncomfortable they feel. I actually liked this experiment, it would be interesting to see more videos of that kind.

Sara, I relate to all your videos, especially anxiety ones since I am currently seeing a doctor about my anxiety. Thank you for going out of your comfort bubble and doing this experiment. It gives me hope that I can do he same one day. I get the whole awkward thing (reintroducing yourself to someone who knows you or forgetting they were at the same event as you) and it can really bring you down and outweigh the good but you pushed through it and didn't dwell on it which shows you fighting your anxiety. Thank you and please continue to do more.

Aw I LOVE Sara!!! she's like my bestie. I met a shy, quiet, friendly and funny girl at school who I felt was on my level and we have been best friends since 2001! still going strong :) I think sometimes it's not the shy/introverted people who need to make the effort, it sometimes has to come from someone with confidence to approach them and let them know you are interesting and liked.

She's definitely the kind of person I tend to be friends with. I'm so much like her socially. I gravitate towards other people like that. Also, this chic reminds me of my 11 year old daughter so much. They even have the same hair cut and curls. It's weird. She walks like her, talks like her, and even makes awkward jokes like her. The introvert is not bad things. A lot of people love to spend time being alone, me too. I recharge my energy when I do something that I like and being alone. But it's okay. Socially awkward and introvert are not a bad thing. Doesn't have to drink alcohol and go to the party or club for to be popular. Let's wear some pajamas, eat chocolate ice cream, talk about anything and laugh. Then we can be friends :)

This was very interesting to watch. I fall under the shy/reserved spectrum and when at work we were recently talking about what makes each of us different or shine a bit i was surprised to hear that I am very likeable and when people see me they want to talk with me, at events clients search for me or ask for me... I think I never realised about that before and now, it gave me confidence.
