I tried to buy a car on bazaraki in Cyprus and failed, I walked to Peyia and drove to Paphos, decided not to bother and gave up.

Well done on your move, can you do some videos on things like cost of living , home rental prices, learning to speak Cypriot etc, I think it’s a very realistic look at moving abroad, my family are from Cyprus, we inherited a home there, we spend a lot of time at diy supermarkets etc , it’s different to Uk and very interesting maybe start drinking keo and get them to sponsor! Or find a local thrift shop car hire or supermarket?

Thank you for the comment! :) All these videos will come in good time, being in a fully furnished villa rental, DIY shops are not needed just yet, however if we pick up a ruin at some point and document the renovation, then I'm sure you'll end up sick of the amount of times I'm in there 🤣

My husband acquired a truck for work a few months ago and we had to make an appointment at the Citizens Service Centre (CSC) to change the registration document. This is a legal document proving ownership of the vehicle. Since Covid you can no longer just walk in to the CSC and queue. Indeed, in Larnaca, there is a security person in the lobby who checks that your name and time are on that day's list. I also wonder about your driving licence since UK left the EU. Your insurance certificate has to be presented to CSC. Maybe, for now, hire a car for a couple of weeks. The systems here do work but as I mentioned to you before, some of the processes can feel a little frustrating. As usual, good luck. x

Once you’re at the Citizens centre, there should be some agents milling around outside, you should be able to identify them because they’re usually helping others with the transfer paperwork process. If you speak to them, show them all your paperwork, ID docs and signed and stamped form, they should be able to walk straight in to the citizens centre push to the front of the queue and make the transfer on your behalf, they usually charge around €20 to €30, after around 30 minutes, they should come back out give you your new amended logbook, ID’s and paperwork back and you’ll be all done and dusted. It’s true that the car buying process can be quite complicated here, I feel your pain. If you follow a process though, it will get easier you just need to be in touch with the right people. With regard to getting some decent wheels which will get you everywhere you need to go initially, it’s not necessary to set the bar too high, there’s plenty of decent small family cars for around €1000, that may not be all that new, but mechanically they’re still running strong, example Toyota Starlet / Corolla, Honda Civic and so on. Basic but reliable transport.

Yeah agreed, we have given up on the idea now, our car arrives in Cyprus next week, we are just waiting for that to come now. I’m expecting it to be delayed so rather than next week, I’ll aim for the 1st week August. Until then it’s bus, borrow, lifts and taxis

Hey buddy … thank you for uploading the videos and giving everyone an insight into your journey… the used car market is strange in cyprus … what you may pick up in the uk for a few hundred quid will prob cost alot more in cyprus… I know financially it prob makes more sense to buy a car but I would rent one for a few weeks and save yourself the headache… one thing you will probably here alot is “siga siga” translates slowly slowly… keep up the good work!!!

Thank you! Yeah we have leaned towards just borrowing and renting as and when we need a car. I woke up with the idea we are buying a car and ran with it! Need to remember to relax abit and adopt the Siga Siga lifestyle 😄

Once you’ve found your car, you don’t always need to go together with the seller to make a transfer at the citizens advice centre, if they’re busy. You can buy the car from them there and then, as in hand over the cash and drive the car away if you have insurance coverage obviously. You just need to make sure that they hand you the car’s original log book, give you a clear photocopy of their ID card or Passport and that they have filled in the first section of the transfer form and signed it, all in BLUE INK. If you have an E Mail address I can send you one of these blank forms, you can perhaps print off a few copies for the future as well. If you can find a certifying officer and take all this paperwork to them along with a copy of your own insurance document and original passport / ID etc they will stamp the transfer of ownership form for you. Obviously you will need to fill your part of the form in, as well as buyer before it can be stamped. The certifying officer may ask a small fee to stamp the document. You’re now ready to take your form and all your paperwork to the Citizens bureau.

Sorry, 2 additional points that you need to make sure of, before you hand over cash to the seller is that the road tax is fully up to date and that there’s no finance or interest in the vehicle from a bank, usually in the bottom right hand corner of the logbook it will show if this is the case. If neither of the above are in order, it will create problems for you being able to make a transfer to your name.

Just also wanted to say that if you buy an older car, check that road tax is paid and get the MOT certificate. It may be (again because of Brexit) that you need a residence permit to buy a car here. Lots of info online. Sorry to sound so negative but I would hate you to lose any money.

I find that just having the immigration appointment booked and showing proof of appointment has been good enough to satisfy everywhere so far instead of having the actual permit. Also thanks for letting me know about the taxes, everybody has said that since posted the video. When I actually finish the process 1 day I'll make a video show the exact steps 😀

@NuttersInCyprus oh I see,my parents were both from cyprus, and I was born in London, so like I said, I've been going to cyprus all my life and without tons of money to basically retire there or a guaranteed good job there I wouldn't go,don't get me wrong cyprus is beautiful, safe, great weather so I hope you git the income side of it sorted.
