I wish people would understand being zero waste isn’t about fitting a years worth of waste into a jar. It’s about being environmentally and ethically conscious, and thinking about each purchase before you make it. Low impact doesn’t mean you use absolutely zero plastic, but that you’re mindful about how much you take off the shelf. Refuse, reduce, reuse, THEN recycle and rot. Anybody and everybody can make an impact without having a trash jar!

Just thought people need to hear this : You DO NOT have to go completely zero waste. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. Next time you go shopping, try implementing this into you lives. For example, you could mabye not use that plastic bag for your bananas? What’s the use really... Another thing I’ve learnt is going to buy rolled oats in Lidl’s instead of other places since they package theirs in paper not plastic which is less harmful. I’ve seen people in then comments say ‘I want people to make that change now’ or something along the lines. But really truly when you break it down, it’s the little things that count. And you can start.
@gabrielamedel87776 жыл бұрын
Alex A thank you for this comment. It upsets me when people are so judgmental “do it now!” That’s just not possible for everyone. Little changes add up to big changes.

Gabriela Moctezuma exactly ! Everyone needs to contribute. We are on the path to a total catastrophe with this climate change. If they make them change their packaging, check if things are being reused or recycled, etc then people won't even have the choice to ruin the environment. They will be forced to change their ways. A few people going zero waste will do fuck all, you have to force it on the public.

Taz, you did awesome. Zero waste is HARD. No need to talk around it. Thank you for trying harder, than soooo many people would. BTW your „chilli“ with rice was actually vegan, as far as I’m concerned, which is awesome, since animal agriculture is the number one climate killer, not plastic. Still our plastic waste is a huuuuggggeeeee problem. Thank you for your try and thank you for spreading the subject around! ❤️

It might feel that way but it's not actually true. We've known about global warming since the early 80's and though change has been glacially slow, some parts of the world are further ahead than others. Today my country proposed a law to forbid sales of diesel and gas cars by 2030, and we've cut our co2 emission by 40% since 1990. The world is working in the right direction and you are not alone! Just don't stop working and advocating!

If you purchase glass jars of items such as jams, and peanut butter, you can reuse the jars, so only a minimal amount of paper is to be used and can be trashed. We have bulk food in Canada, perhaps you have this also and you can get your herbs and spices in bulk, you fill up your own jars, as well as loose tea, with muslin tea bags you can wash and reuse also. You truly have to think outside the box. I got some muslin to make draw string bags for produces, as well as glass straws which come with their own brushes (2 sizes, one size for drinks, one size for smoothies), also in a wooden containers to protect them. Start with non-disposable things like coffee mug, water bottle, silverware, cloth napkins, take out containers, in a cloth bag, and you will see how much you can save on a daily basis. Just go, one step at the time, and make each change a habit. Take your time, one thing may work for me, but not for you, so change and develop what works for you. I admire your efforts and keep going, you are doing great. P/S we even have "junk" food in bulk such as candies, chips, pretzels, cookies, and other things.

We have organic bins here in British Columbia, Canada. A truck comes and takes the waste from our homes. I'm not sure what they do with it after that in this city but when I was living in Surrey, British Columbia they turned the organics into fuel for the garbage trucks. We also have bulk foods in every grocery store.
