Shaina Erika That’s an amazing idea! I recently looked at old family pictures with my sister in law and I was amazed at how much I look like my mother when she was young. She even had a similar taste in clothing as me, it seems. I have a picture of her in a canary yellow jumpsuit that’s exactly the kind of ‚in your face‘ garment I love 😎

Hullo hulloo! A couple things: 1. I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH THIS so let me know if you liked it! and 2. The volume definitely would have been easier to achieve if I had teased my hair, but because I knew I was doing multiple hairstyles (and because I suck at it and always end up snarling my hair), I decided not to. Okay das it I love youuUUU!

Rachel! A lot of ladies used rats to achieve volume. You can make them with hair from your hairbrush so they will match your hair and hide better :) I have some and they do indeed look kinda gross haha but they work! And not as much teasing necessary!

I think a lot of it is practice. I've got hair looks that I have done so many times it takes me less than 5 minutes to do now, and people see and ask how long it took. There's lots of similarities between different 1940's/50's looks, and it's all about learning how to work with the curls and create rolls. Once you have those skills down, all the different looks are just about how you arrange things. Like anything, it just takes practice, and eventually it goes a lot faster.

@Catbirdmom24 жыл бұрын
It’s the wet set. Brushing is the key. You brush and brush and brush. It’s what gets the curls to meld. Then it’s teased and brushed more.

My hair does not curl, no matter what. Brushing it would make it straight again.😫😫😫

I have hair like that. The answer is styling cream! I use one from Andalou Naturals and now have the curls of my dreams. Sun Bum has one that was recommended to me but haven't tried it yet. Lotta Body makes setting lotion which is supposed to be the best, but they're not cruelty free and I am. Set hair damp, applying cream to each section as you go. In the morning brush to your heart's content and style. My curls last until next wash if I reroll them dry at night or soften into waves after a couple days if I don't. You can also spray each curl with a little light hold hairspray after you take the roller out but let dry completely before brushing.
@WithLoveKristina6 жыл бұрын
Second style: I think you needed to start the roll at a different angle. Starting it at the side means you’ll have looser hair there, because... basically your hair will sit at the angle you roll it. So rolling from a side angle means most of your poof will be on the side. If you start from straight up it MIGHT work better. I have to test this but I *think* that’s how I’ve made those kinds of rolls successful before. Not done watching. Brb with more comments. Hehe I looove this video already.
@rachelmaksy6 жыл бұрын
Maybe, I like how it came out though haha. This was just for fun ❤️
@WithLoveKristina6 жыл бұрын
Haha, I forgot to add I like how it came out too! But, if you ever do it again that might help make it easier to deal with. I just know my hair is super particular about how it's rolled and certain angles mean they never turn out right.

My two unsolicited cents: in that last style, I feel like maybe letting those front bang-area curls be a little floofier might help to balance the hugeness of the sides. Almost like doing the poodle/Lucille Ball style you did the tutorial for, but with the side front areas being in those most victorious of rolls. Regardless, these are so neat and I absolutely agree with Karolina - SERIES YES PLZ.

you probably know this already, but, victory rolls are a lot easier if you tease and spray it with like one spray of hairspray for some "grab" it so you can basically just shape it to whatever shape you want and smooth it after. It also gives something for the pins to hold onto and makes it a little less precarious. we did a whole course on vintage styles when I was in beauty school =) also, when combing them out, start at the ends of your hair and work up, don't just go in from the top. It only snarls it more and causes breakage. It also sets the tangle more if you get it wet. so gently combing from the bottom up when dry will get it out much faster and easier =) I found your channel today and have been binge watching it. I love you and your style. I've been trying to add more vintage style into my wardrobe for a while. I've always been drawn to the 40's and 50's kind of pinup style dress and hair. =)

My mother still does her hair 1940's style . There is a slight trick ( or more precisely a underpin to them) probably forgotten now. The hair is cut in a layer at the front , so that it is shorter than the rest to enable the curls and waves to sit properly. Most of us now haven't got that and hair dressers have lost the knack of doing it.

For the second one, the pomade/sticky gel/spray would definitely be the make or break. From what I've learned over the years, they would extend the hair like you did right before curling on your finger, and either the hair, or their fingers, would be coated in pomade. That would hold ALL the hair stiffly together while they curled it, so it looked more crisp :D

The first few were amazing! The last two made me laugh so hard. (mainly because of the references you made to different movie characters) I love your videos so much and your sense of humor!

Besides having my hair down and putting it in a ponytail, there’s basically nothing I can do with my clumsy as i-don’t-know-what hands. You nailed those amazing hairstyles!!! I enjoyed the video very much. It just made my day. 😊❤️

I tend to be in this habit where I like a video when something makes me smile or laugh and that happened like within the first 10 seconds with the Stranger Things 'Nailed It' bit. I think my favorite though was the Ducky/Kenickie hairdo! This was so much fun to watch! I would love more videos like this

I was watching your video last night when my husband walked in. He said you reminded him of a very beautiful pinup model and that he can actually picture your face painted on one of those planes like in World War II or whatever. I then showed him your page name and he said it was perfect. We both think that you are an absolutely beautiful lady and we love watching and listening and laughing with you. Keep it up, from a fan in Indiana

Rofl! That was awesome. I loved the Winifred Sanderson comparison. That was right up there with the Big Foot brows. Lol. Loved this video. Thank you for the laugh and the fun hair styles.

This video is vintage life.😂 Thank you for showing the struggle of trying to recreate these amazing hairstyles. It was so fun to watch.

I know a lot of the gravity defying hairdos were achieved using rats nests. These were at first bundles of teased hair sewn over a pad to increase the volume of the hair. Later they were foam pads in the color of your hair. You did an amazing job though using just Bobby pins. As always, loved your video!

Yes!! I know the last lady deeefinitely used one or two in that style, hahaha. I think I'll try using some next time around! Thank you my love!

You did a great job with these, and I think some of them are more flattering than you give yourself credit for (though when you're used to particular styles on yourself, I get that it's hard to gravitate away from them). I'm truly amazed by what you're able to achieve with no backcombing and little to no product in your hair! As someone with like ten hairs total, I'm tres jealousse!

I had so much fun watching it! My hair is naturally curly in a way that if you don't brush it for long it starts to curl itself into a nest, but if you do brush it, it looks puffy but straight. So the only brush ever that didn't give me any pain at all was "tangle teaser", I can't imagine how people use regular brushes now, I think of course it might work differently for everybody, but definitely is worth a try, it changed my life :D I don't have enough words to describe the difference that it makes) Also, it's not at all a critique, you did an amazing job with those hairstyles, but it might look better if you sectioned your hair with a sharp end of a flat brush, just because people at that time really cared about accuracy and it looks more cohesive with their hairstyles) but I loved it anyway, thank you so much!

Oooo I'll look into that brush! And yeah I thought about doing the sharp part thing but then didn't really care that much, hahaha. If I was wearing these out I'd put in the extra effort but I knew this whole process was gonna take a while so I just skipped it 😂
