I've been off of social media for over three months and I feel so much happier. ❤️ I feel like I went through a period of "I have so much time I'm overwhelmed knowing what to do with it", but that was a good thing. Still watching the video, but the scent chosen for the soap sort of reminded me of something else fall related. Once, and only once, I saw Walmart selling boxes of sweet potato flavored pancake mix. They were amazing. And sadly, I have not seen them since, though it was only just a couple of years ago! I want a waffle maker just for that mix, lol. I normally don't go for all the autumnal flavors of stuff, but I was curious and I'm happy I gave in 😂 I hope they bring them back this year.

IDK if it's because it's Renaissance Festival season but I would honestly love if you made a video making soap via methods of the past centuries (like 1000s, 1500s, and 1900s,etc.). Would be educational and fun to see!

Yes, spread the word about how social media affects your mood! I can't imagine what it must be like to grow up with it in middle and high school. No wonder kids have such high rates of depression nowadays. Personally, I noticed a huge improvement in mood when I started checking Facebook once a week instead of once a day and limited the amount of time I scroll. Don't have instagram or tiktok and don't plan on getting them!
@HaydenHaystackArts2 жыл бұрын
It definitely is a part of the increase in depression diagnoses, though lots of other factors do play into it too. Some examples: more awareness, more access, our current economy, worsened societal expectations with less payout, depression secondary to other illnesses which may be worsened recently, etc. Definitely agree with you though.

I hear you on the social media hiatus. It was a very eye opening experience. I decided to take a couple months break from FB and Insta since it was so time consuming. Pictures, vids, scrolling constantly. The first couple of weeks were rough, filled with FOMO. This happened December 2019 and from then I've literally only posted twice on FB, along with the occasional post insta. I think the best part turned out being my mental health because I'm not constantly comparing myself, kids, etc to other people. Definitely the right choice for me! 🙂

I've never been on Snapchat, Reddit, or TikTok. I last posted a pic to Instagram in May of 2019. I still have a Facebook, that I made in 2005 when it was only open to college kids on the North Shore (before it spread to other colleges, and then to everyone), but only use it to thank people for wishing me a happy birthday (which they only do because Facebook reminds them). I use Twitter mostly to talk with my friends about Forged In Fire. The older I get, the less I care about Social Media. It has its uses, but some platforms are nothing but drama & poison. The cons outway the pros. And since I don't need it to network with people or promote a business, I just left it all behind. --- On a happier note, my second soap order arrived! So now I have 3 soaps to give my mom on her birthday...and three for myself! I already started using the Jellies one and was complimented on the lovely melon smell.
@datbat1 Жыл бұрын
I did the same thing, and it was a fantastic decision. I also cancelled cable and put the TV in storage. I thought I would miss the TV, but I've realized that everything on it was either dumb garbage or political scare-tactics that made me depressed and angry. I don't miss it at all. I now have that time for things that are interesting and/or informative. I've also noticed that I not only judge myself less harshly but I also judge my friends and family less harshly when I'm not comparing everyone to fake people on screens. Granted, there's a lot of junk on KZbin, too, but that's the one guilty electronic pleasure I still engage in. I did learn to make beautiful soap from KZbin soapers like you, so that's how I justify it.

As social media can be both good and bad, I will never make a TikTok account. It's a good decision to stay away from that app... It's good to take breaks as well. Do as you feel! I personally, use the internet to promote my art, look for news (as I don't have a TV), search for creative and interesting things, etc. I like being on social media, but some things I'm glad I did are : I cleaned my list of people whom I follow as it took me too long to check all (I'm still subscribed to you tho 🥰), I rarely read comments and I don't engage in internet arguments anymore. Everything that you said about social media is something my husband and I have been trying to teach our 15 yr old daughter. She despises the fact we won’t let her on any of the social medias, bar KZbin (but that is also restricted). We want our children to think for themselves and to have the self confidence to face what ever life throws at them, and we don’t think that things like TikTok and instagram help with that message (we think it’s counter to it in fact). I should mention that we don’t use those platforms either. It’s hard to get away from things like that, like any addiction. I proud that you were able to overcome it and have chosen to maintain a positive headspace by staying away from toxic and addictive “stuff”. I love your soaps and creativity and can’t wait to see what chew creative things that your muse throws your way.

@@GotAnUmbrella I don’t need luck. I have taught my kids that garbage like TikTok, instagram, twitter, Facebook and so on are toxic to life. There is nothing that you need to do on any of those platforms to live so why would it be such a huge revelation for them. They have been informed that whilst they live under my house that GARBAGE will NOT be in here. When they are adults and want to explore the evils of the world they will be more than prepared to look at the GARBAGE and see it for the GARBAGE that it is. We don’t keep garbage and crap in our lives physically, why on earth should we keep digital garbage? I respect that you allow your children to view that crap and hope that you have taught them to think for themselves. Katiecieleigh, you’re doing just a superb job over there at Royalty Soaps! This is one of those videos where you might want to tell people, “DON’T EAT THE SOAP!”

Great to hear that! It's so much better for anyone's mental health

Good for you. I never had Instagram or tic TOC and don't plan to. I can see where it all can become toxic. Life is too short for all that. Thanks for your fun videos. I look forward to them 😊

If you have lots of friends and family it's easy to get rid of social media

I agree w/you. Media declutter. I hate when people keep asking me, are you posting your product on TikTok, Insta FB. I'm like, no, you can find me at the following markets and my number is on the card if you need more. As a Mom of combined 7, still actively raising 2 kids, working 40 hours and making soap BC its how I DESTRESS, I am not adding a bunch more stress!

It’s always hard for me to actually check how much time I spend on my phone, because I usually leave a podcast on when I’m cooking or cleaning, or even working. But I think I’m going to delete Instagram, I’ve never used tiktok but Instagram is the next worst thing lol

My name is Kaylee and I get called every name you named along with Katie 🤣 Kayla and Kate are the most frequent which really throws me off. As for social media - I don't use it aside from commenting to you occasionally. BUT I always recommend to people who DO use it to not feel pressured into using it. It's good you're making rules for yourself but even rules can become stressful when they're about something you enjoy. So if you do get back to it just keep it casual. Do it how you want when you want and never let it feel like a chore!

I already stopped FaceTime Book. I have cut my use a lot. I had your same symptoms! I do feel much better. But I hope you don’t stop making content. I have watched you for ten years. I’d miss you. I make soap because of you and Clyde from Vibrant soap. Love you guys.

I never had Instagram, and I left TT, FB and Twitter. It just becomes toxic so fast and the lack of control of my information sold is maddening.

I’m probably on social media about 5-15 mins a day. Though I’m 31 and grew up with most of the social media platforms. I kind of forget to use them, it’s simply not the first (or tenth) thing that comes to mind when picking up my phone. 😅 But if I check my tablet of how many hours I have KZbin (mostly let’s plays or podcasts) or Netflix running in the background, while i’m doing stuff. As a radio when I’m out (as whitenoise for my pets). Or actually watching while on my tea breaks at home…. 👀 Dear, oh dear 😂😂

After talking with a client back in June and how she said her life was being so bogged down watching tik toks, I quickly reevaluated my tik tok usage and I realized how addicted I was. I tried for the longest time not to download it, but 2021 it got me. I realized I was spending hours, between 2-10+ hours a day watching tik toks… they make it so addicting with their algorithms… I finally un-installed it after talking to my client and I have to say, I feel like I have my life back! I still watch some reels and shorts, but they aren’t as curated and I’m just fine with that. I still my beauty gurus and my Royalty soaps, I can’t quite give up KZbin but it’s safe to say I’ll never download tiktok again 😂

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles is my 100% favorite fragrance. It makes me happy. Istantly. When I make a candle with this blended in I feel like I get the same level of contentment you probably get when a batch of soap turns out perfectly. That is how much I adore this fragrance. That is all. Continue with your lives good people.

I love your shelf decorations in the back ground. Very sweet. I've never joined any social media, which can mean I miss out on some things, but l've never understood the fascination or addiction. Life is too precious to spend your life watching other people's!

I take regular weekends off social media and it helps me not feel fomo about what everyone else is doing and improves my attitude. Such a good idea.

Aside from KZbin, I post like twice a year on Instagram and Facebook just to keep people updated and let them know I'm still alive. It's lovely and very peaceful 💕
