I love that the music stayed the same for so long. It's comforting. I binged your videos soon after finding your channel and the consistent music over years of content is charming. It makes the older videos feel less dated than if your format had changed significantly. Your channel is one of my favourites; You're wonderful to listen to. Also, the worker bee revelation. I had that exact crisis when I began working straight out of uni, lol. Working became a lot more fun when I realised that whilst having a job is a requirement, hating it is not. I'm not a slave to the system if I enjoy myself every day, so that's what I do.

Bernard, this might be one of THE BEST KZbin videos I've ever watched. Having started my own channel, you have NO CLUE how big an inspiration you are to me. I'm only 25, and now that I'm a doctor, I realise I've had my fair share of struggles along the way. Trying to balance work and KZbin and life is a struggle. Right now, I'm midway watching a mandatory lecture on clinical biochemistry, and I'm like wait... I could probably make a better video explaining this, given what I've learnt from making other KZbin videos! (Although I need to review anion gaps and renal tubular acidosis types lol) But it just goes to show that nobody's paths and struggles are linear or comparable - we're all on our own journeys of self-development, trying to make the best of it for ourselves and making a net positive impact on society. This comment turned into an essay - but I just wanted you to know that the impact of your self-development and education journey goes far beyond yourself. Hell, if my KZbin channel pans out, your influence might just have changed my life! P.S. I too would like to be f**king jacked. With time I guess!

And it's objectively a good thing to make the music the same. Since your content is designed to educate first, consistency between the videos is helpful in making the videos easy to understand. If Chubbyemu suddenly used an NCS song out of the blue, we'd notice that and probably ignore the info dump.

I really enjoyed how the story isn't just the music, but following through on inspiration and how it doesn't always work out instantly. It's important to keep in mind when you're starting something new that it takes time and effort, and that's okay. It's okay of it's your side gig or hobby and you're working a job you don't enjoy while you try.
@jackneals55852 жыл бұрын
Wow, not to sound corny but... That was a pretty incredible video. I think the word you were looking for in regards to the feeling and senses you had towards certain smells, places, songs etc... is "nostalgia". And I think you're absolutely correct. I even felt a bit of nostalgia just watching certain parts of this video and I feel the exact same way about music in certain time periods of my life. Random side note: I'm someone who studies my family's genealogy quite extensively. I often investigate and search for old photographs of my ancestors. I have literally traveled around the United States to do this on a couple of occasions... Haha anyways... The fact that you did those daily vlogs for so long... I don't think you can fully comprehend how incredibly fascinating those might be to somebody like your grandson or great grandson 60-100 years from now. Just a thought. I will probably start doing daily vlogs now because I recognize the family historical significance of doing something like that. Very fascinating and thought provoking video Bernard. Well done.

The music reminded me of simpler times, when I was young, when nothing mattered besides doing homework and playing lightweight games that my really low-end computer could handle. One of them was Dustforce. The first time I was watching your video, I couldn't even focus on the content, because I was completely distracted by the music (I couldn't remember where it was from at the time, but it strongly reminded me of my childhood). Or more like, distracted by the old and forgotten memories this music awoke in me again.

Sharing your experience with YT and playing NT made me feel such feelings (6:49 was me the latter 80% of my time doing let's plays) Dustforce had SUCH a good soundtrack I know what you mean about the 'associating smells with memories'. Specifically, I remember what I was hearing during every single comic I've drawn. Weird, because my memory has always been abysmal, otherwise. Man, I remember back when you told me about getting permission via email from lifeformed to use their music! I actually reached out to them shortly after, when I started getting music copyright claims, asking if I could do the same and they never replied lmao Bro, I'm so glad you found a way to make your channel your own space. After ~10 years of farting around on youtube, I finally found my own space and it really feels amazing. Keep it up! You're an adaptive guy and I believe that will continue to lead you to where you need to be. 👍

Don't ever change the music. When I hear it i happily settle in for a good story and sound science. It actually inspired me to research the symptoms of my own rare disease. I was well equipped when I went to the doctor for the millionth time to get a diagnosis. Some doctors were rude and thought there's no possible way a former CNA actually knows everything! I was a CNA and studying to be a surg tech when I got so ill I had to quit. Anyway, my persistence and proof I fit all the criteria finally landed me the right diagnosis.

I had forgotten that I subscribed to Chubbyemu for your videos on weight loss reflections, powerlifting, and thoughts on relationships and the future in general. I remember listening to you talk, I believe with some unease, while you played Overwatch, and thinking to myself how I could have as much initiative as you to move forward in life, since a constant theme in all your videos was an insatiable hunger for achieving more and more of what you personally consider signs of success. I didn’t know that your PC video had been a breakthrough; I had assumed you were already successful and all those views were normal. That video implanted in my mind the importance of PC performance, as it has a dramatic effect on my life during the years I use it. The perspective on spending changes when you realize you might only experience 1 or 2 processors per decade. It was something that affected me greatly and partly responsible for choosing my last processors. I couldn’t tell you which are my favorite videos you’ve made; I’ve always had trouble choosing favorites. I think all of them have a part of you and your past, like horcruxes that provide new perspectives and help reflect. Thank you for making this video and reminding me of that part of my past. It's mind-blowing to realize that each one of us here has a full life where you are part of our memories and future memories, impacting decisions as trivial as not reheating rice or respecting B12. I also had a few vegan years with hardly any B12 and very low budget for food. It lasted more than 10 years. Your B12 video and others have made me periodically review what I eat on Cronometer to avoid ending up being a case in one of your videos, haha. Thank you for persevering, and I’m very sorry for all those years of despair. The same goes to anyone reading this.

A few videos later, I was so into the music, I searched everywhere until I found it and put it on my phone to listen as well. The same as you described, it's like it's a bookmark in life. When I listen to the music, it turns me back to that chapter in life. I loved your old videos as well though. After the 3 Gallons video, I ended up watching all the lifestyle, ranting about life, videos. I deeply connected with most of what you were talking about. I have watched every single video on Chubbyemu you've posted since, and I believe a lot of the reason is because of the 'connection' I built with your content in those early lifestyle videos.

I didn't know of the game Dustforce nor the artist Lifeformed until I started watching your videos, but after seeing them credited in your descriptions (which I absolutely appreciate), I looked up their album and bought it with the game. The way you described smells and certain things rooting you to very specific times and memories is almost as beautiful as it is horrible when that sense goes away. I just entered my 20s, and I'm figuring out that I haven't exited that phase yet. This and some of the video game music I grew up hearing while playing games are what bring me back to different times and emotions in my life. This also serves as a bit of a loveletter to Lifeformed, because their work has allowed me to push on through some of the hardest life problems I've ever dealt with. I love Tunic's soundtrack as well!❤

I have a favourite band and favourite music and indeed it is very personal to me. I think anyone who enjoys music has emotional connections which they can trace to a specific time in their life. For me, the album ‘Dawn’ by Mount eerie is that piece of art which I resonate so deeply with. I first listened to the album at a time when all my aspirations were crumbling away and I felt completely powerless. The album isn’t hopeful or uplifting, it’s just real. I would say it’s my ‘comfort album’ because I know every song by heart and each song means something to me that nothing else can represent so immediately and poignantly. It’s good to have something like that, I think.

One of the things I like about channels I have watched for a long time is when little details like the music stays consistent. I like that about this channel. I like that about the channel Veritasium. There's something welcoming about it, especially since the music follows a kind of format. For this channel it's the dramatic opening. And maybe it helps that the very first video I saw was the one about the scientist who got poisoned by methyl mercury. That was such a fascinating subject for me, the music that went with it really cemented itself as the music to go with dramatic medical emergencies. Veritasium's music comes through at the point in the video where it resolves into some kind of aha! moment, where it all comes together. So yeah, the music really matters. I hope you keep it.
