@DaveCoulter-qi7yp you are right. I had fat grips for the 1st few months when I started and it was much easier..no finger pain. I switched back to normal size because I thought that if I get used to playing just with oversize grips, I won't be able to play with normal grips if I have to rent clubs when traveling

I'm a 65 year old man who has been to the range 3 times and played 1 since watching SagutoGolf (Tom) and I can tell you that the contact is indeed "crispy", ball flight medium/high and predictable. Center club contact and low point have made distances more consistent. I worked very hard on keeping my weight forward without a shift rearward and am quite pleased with the results so far. I will continue to work at this swing and expect to only get greater improvement. A little background my handicap is 13 My avg. drive is 225 7 iron carry is 145-152 Crispy, and gap wedge 115. 15:42 Tom, I’ve got to tell you, that I’ve been watching your stuff occasionally for the last couple years. I haven’t had time to practice due to home renovations, working after work, blah blah. I’ve been lost in my 20+ year golf league this year. Going from a usual 2-3 handicap for 9 holes to a 9…I’m 54 and have been golfing for 30 years, relying mostly on athleticism to get me through, breaking 80 here and there and probably averaging 84. I had committed to a golf trip with some buddies back in the winter. We were playing 54 holes in 2 days. I was 100, 92, 100, for the weekend on some tough RTJ designed courses. One of my playing partners says at the end of the 54 holes, you are bending your elbow at the top and going to far back. We were in competition with each other, hence him telling me 54 holes in…To get to the point, I happen to watch one video of yours, on tilt. With that knowledge and some of your earlier tips, I shot 36 in league that week, with zero practice! Granted I can adapt quicker than most from experience, but I’ve gone from that 9 handicap back to a 3 in 3 weeks. 36, 37, 39. It simplified the s… out of my swing and I’m having a lot of fun beating the crap out of my opponents. Dude thanks for real. It’s made golf fun again this year, when I was not having a good time out there. Your instruction is the most relatable that I’ve ever come across. When I get more time I’m in on the paid lessons.

Alright, Tom. here's the deal. Since adopting your swing method last year, my handicap has gone from 21 to 14. Yesterday, after not golfing for over a month (travel, dog surgery, busy life), I went out and shot an 84. 39-45. My 2nd lowest score this year and before that, the only time I broke 80 was when I was golfing 27 holes a day, 7 days a week. That's not sustainable as an adult. This works. Plain and simple. Thanks for being my golf sensei. It's so much more fun to go out when you're throwing darts at the green and not hitting your second shot out of the woods. I didn't lose a ball all day, which is pretty rare on a course that has water and excessive amounts of wooded areas. Seriously, you're the man.
@TigerMarine625 ай бұрын
Same as me brother. I used to buy the shank balls online until I realized I'm losing far fewer balls. Now I just buy the balls that fit my game and don't really worry about the cost. I started with Oncore Elixr and now play Oncore VeroX1. To me, the best ball out there, very similar to TM TP5.

My pleasure, Robert! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! By the way, you may be interested to know that the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. I appreciate that and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! If are relatively early in the process then you are likely still ingraining your "feels" and thinking mechanical thoughts. When you develop sufficient confidence in the motion that you are comfortable "giving up control", you'll be able to just trust it and let it fly. At that point you'll have made that giant leap from playing "golf swing" to playing target-focused golf, and by then you should be experiencing noticeable improvements in consistency and distance through the bag. By the way, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. My usual good drive 225 yds or less. Today that was my minimum. I hit one 255 yds. Iron play was better, but still needs work. I'm thrilled. I'm 72, 12 handicap, don't realize how lucky I've been. For me it works because it completely eradicates the myriad swing thoughts that have devastated my entire game over the past 20 years. Like you, I have nearly given up in despair so many times. Your ethos has restored my love of the game, forget scores, it's this love of the game that keeps you coming back for me. Not enough said about the mental side of the game, your method calms me down so much, it's like I am a different man on the course. You sir are a genius and a God send.

@@SagutoGolf One last thing Tom, my son has just returned from Uni and has barely played. His last few rounds have included many shanks, the kind of shots that make him fearful of playing any shots. It's got so bad, he ends up only chipping on most holes. He loves the game but is so depressed not able to play. He had lessons as a kid but doesn't play enough on the course to find his groove so would def be 28+. Would your amazing ethos naturally take away the shank, I have already shown him your last vlog. Or would you be able to recommend anything to help get his love of game back? Cheers as always Tom

I say this with every new video, but you are the best golf teacher I have ever seen. And so young too! That tee in the armpit drill was a great way to train your body for a good swing plane. After practice, I took it onto the course and hit all my irons past the distance I was aiming. oops. No prob. I'll happily make that adjustment. I was hitting my 7 iron as far as I hit it when I was in my 20's. Add the lesson above to my practice regimen and I think I am going to really improve! You are 1000% right. Been on Tom's golf school website but also have kept watching all his youtube videos. In 4 weeks my swing has completely changed from a instructor made mess over to stack and tilt and the final piece of the puzzle for me was the backswing feeling which i now have on repeat. The feel is to go "down" with the shoulders over the front leg (angled slightly inwards to get the draw). I originally thought the problem was in the downswing but it was actually the backswing causing the downswing inconsistency along with some muscle soreness (No pain now!). Driver also one of the easiest clubs to hit an it feels like minimal effort for a straight 280y drive. Along with his putting technique i can now have my two nicknames by friends retired (Lumber-jack and 3 putt rando)

Love the staying centered advice and no sway advice. It has definitely made my contact more reliable and solid 👍 The only thing that doesn't work for me is the advice of going deeper in a circular motion in the backswing. To me that's a recipe for getting the club too far behind, then coming too far from the inside on the downswing and getting stuck at impact, leading to pull hooks!
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to learn of your improvement - nice job!! 💪💪 I understand your concern. To further clarify, the swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected handsy snatch or roll to the inside (which can result in getting stuck, hooking, etc.) - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time. So rather than have to rely on "dropping it in the slot" the exact amount each and every swing, why not just put in the slot from the start and just keep it there?! We create depth in this swing, and that enables us to fully engage the shoulders and harness the tremendous power of swinging on an inclined arc courtesy of the seemingly effortless force known as "angular momentum" - where physics and geometry collide. While there is certainly other content on my channel that addresses this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work! @SagutoGolf thanks for the explanation. A tilted circle makes more sense. I made a conscious effort on the backswing the last 2 practices and my contact became so pure and effortless. Now just need to keep doing the reps to hone it into second nature!

This is it, so simple yet I often think of everything thing but weight forward and sometimes justify a tiny sway to the right.. like how another local pro in lesson last year said I should, but I politely said I was 'not ready for that yet (to keep to your instruction). Whenever I do the wt left and tilt at the range, the shots are, seemingly to me, perfect and wows. Why in the heck can I not stick with that on the course.. By the 9th hole.. maybe. Muscle memory helps as I've returned to just swinging at home even without club to get this wt forward as this aspect seems fundamental to consistent great shots! Thanks for this great reminder video and sorry for long msg.

The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, Robin, has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play." Now, there is certainly an allowance for a transfer of “pressure” into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In this swing system we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. Anyway, I am glad to learn of your ball striking improvement, and I would very much like to see this become a permanent thing that will stand up for entire rounds. To this end, if you have not already joined have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Yes, totally agree. The transfer of weight though the ball is the single biggest swing destroyer for 99% of golfers. The only ones who get it right become elite players or Pro’s. Golf tuition is based on the Proffesionsl golf swing that 99% of players can’t achieve! It’s madness! What your teaching in this video is priceless.

Unfortunately, Glenn, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Indeed, the notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In fact, here is Jack Nicklaus on weight shift: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thus our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. As for those elite players and pros, the body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system I teach is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. We can watch any Tour event on TV and we'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within that realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Thanks for your kind and validating remarks, and keep up the great work!! You can find virtual lesson information here: saguto.golf/lessons Also, please sign up for my email list at go.saguto.golf/ as that is how I will be communicating updates on lesson options and availability as I move toward resuming one-on-one instruction. (I had taken a hiatus from in-person lessons in order to reappropriate my time to online school upgrades and enhancements.) Beyond that, if you have not joined the online school yet, then I highly recommend doing so as it is designed to get golfers on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform. That is where you will find very detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Excellent! I am very glad to know that the weight-forward component performed well for you; nice job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play! With regard to this erroneous notion that we need to affect some type of active hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact, but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thank you for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA

After hearing you mention changing ball positions I can hit a fade too! Once you are set up correctly, this swing takes place without much thought. If you’ve been playing for a while, you’ll need to change the “traditional takeaway”. Taking the clubhead inside versus down the line IS still weird and the hardest habit to break…..for me anyway. Weight forward and flared feet will get you on the right path even with a traditional swing. Keeping arms extended using the inside takeaway and especially extending arms through the ball, helps me turn my shoulders…..and flush it! I am BOMBING it too, BTW!

Hey Tom, your videos have completely changed my golf game for the better! One question out of curiosity, do you hit down on the ball with the driver or do you hit up on it? And also just for fun what degree is your driver set at? Thanks for all the great content!
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Awesome! I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I am very glad the instruction on my channel has benefited your game!! My driver is 9 degrees. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or some of those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Thanks for sharing your dramatic improvement and keep up the great work!! Tom PS: If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? I appreciate that, Arnel, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. (By the way, I strongly suggest using alignment sticks when monitoring ball position - one on the foot line, a second one parallel to the first to mark the target line, and a third perpendicular to these to show ball position - as our side-on view from above tends to skew our perspective of the actual location of the ball relative to our stance.) As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the structured learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message! Tom...I have been an avid follower of your technique for a few years now and was an enrollled member of your school for a year...Have you considered the slightly elevated wrists such as Dechambeau and Matt Fitzpatrick use? I tried this method this past week with terrific success...It seems that this eliminates another slight angle in the set-up...Thanks, Tony Shans

I'm glad to know that my instruction is continuing to resonate with you, Tony! What you are referring to is one of those individual nuances that will work well for some and not so much for others. This is one reason why I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, if this type of wrist action serves you well then there is no issue in doing it. Thanks for your message and keep up the great work!! Tom

The widest stance is with the driver, where the insides of the heels are shoulder-width apart. The stance gets incrementally narrower as the clubs get shorter. For our stock setup the hand position remains the same with all clubs - even with the inside of the lead heel. And while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver. Really, though, the level of detail you seek is best found in the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school, and it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. That's where - in addition to focused lessons and drills that take you through the entire motion step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses and much more. Also, through the school you would still have access to the KFC Club channel member videos, so if you were to enroll there would be no need to maintain both memberships. Actually, James, fast-forward to the Tiger who captured the 2018 Tour Championship and 2019 Masters and you will see a swing that has incorporated many of the core elements of Stack and Tilt. He destroyed his body with his old swing and had numerous back and knee surgeries as a result, yet was able to stage such a dramatic comeback without any sacrifice of distance, accuracy, or consistency. Even today with a shattered right leg from that horrific car accident he is still able to compete at the game's highest level (when he chooses to do so...😎). This body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. So yes - Stack and Tilt still is a gem for golfers of all experience and ability levels, and countless thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning the system through my online school: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I believe in your system. It works pretty darn well. One issue is when on uneven surfaces, lead leg down hill lie, (most difficult), down hill/side hill lie, very difficult. I need some help with those scenarios using this system. Again, middle of the fairway...not a problem.
@SagutoGolf5 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that my instruction content for this fantastic swing system is performing well for you, Dante!! Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my to-do list for online school lesson content. Having said that, the keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing. Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact. The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, 5) Anticipate the potential for more draw spin on uphill lies and fade spin on downhill lies depending on the severity of the slope, and align accordingly, and 6) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results. I hope that helps. Keep up the great work! Tom, you have a fantastic and huge shoulder turn on your full driver swing. Your driver club shaft gets to parallel or even pass parallel while your lead arm is still straight. IMPRESSIVE!
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Thanks, but there's really no mystery to this! I assure you that one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past! TS

I appreciate your kind words, and I'm glad to know that my instruction content and "lesson and a show" teaching style are continuing to resonate with you! Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. For a good starting point here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Hi Tom, Love your weight forward philosophy. But when I do it, it seems like my left shoulder and my head are dropping. Any tip/feel on how to avoid this, keep turning and keep my head still? Thanks!
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Proper execution of the weight forward component begins with setting up correctly. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Thanks - I'm very glad to know that this video resonated with you, and I hope the instructional details contained therein serve your swing well when you put them into practice! That's a tough question because the Strand is loaded with exceptional tracks. The three you mentioned - which is now unfortunately down to two - are excellent. And down here in the Pawleys area we've got a number of other great ones in addition to Caledonia. So I basically don't have a top 5 list as you really can't go wrong. I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally liked the feel as well as how they helped to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Tom PS: I know an excellent realtor (my mom) if you're serious about that move to our slice of paradise....😎

@SagutoGolf5 ай бұрын
Thanks - I'm glad to know that this lesson video resonated with you! The notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. I live about an hour and a half from your area and wish you did personal lessons again, I’ve thought about doing the online lessons but I’m a special kind of dense Tom, I need extra help

Yeah Tom, all that sounds good but does it work with the driver?
@SagutoGolfАй бұрын
Yes - this absolutely applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo. What is the difference between MO Norman's method or stack and tilt method compare to yours? thanks
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
I am both a Class A PGA Professional and a Certified Stack and Tilt Instructor. Here is the story of my "conversion": kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn6bnYGEp7KDe80 And here is an episode documenting my week at S&T Instructor Camp in Miami: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2rUlYOFr76Ijbc While the Stack and Tilt system I teach shares a one plane feature, it is definitely different from the "single plane" version patterned after Mr. Norman's swing. For example, the straight-line relationship of the arms and club shaft from the DTL view is a trademark of Mr. Norman's setup that one will not typically find in S&T instruction. However, there are also some definite shared features - particularly with regard to the very centered, connected, weight-forward nature of both methods. Stack and Tilt is a complete golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers - and Moe Norman would certainly be included among them. The S&T folks determined from this study of these ball striking legends that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistent crispy contact) 2. Have enough length to play the golf course well (power) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do those 3 things to be good at golf, and Mr. Norman certainly did! Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom

It seemed awkward or difficult, however, the other daywhen on a downward or upward hill, but I think you would say other than leaning with the hill, the weight left principle still holds.. so more work for me at the practice areas to work this.

The same swing keys apply regardless of the lie, Robin. We just need to make some setup adjustments in the scenarios you mentioned. For example, with regard to uphill and downhill lies: 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, 5) Anticipate the potential for more draw spin on uphill lies and fade spin on downhill lies depending on the severity of the slope, and align accordingly, and 6) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results. Can you give a little more info on your straight left forearm? Do you bend at the elbow for whip

The lead arm is the radius of our swing circle, and as such if we desire ball striking consistency we should endeavor to preserve our radius from address to post-impact. The lead arm should hang down relatively straight without any "forcing" at address. From there, as long as we have a proper setup which is supportive of an unrestricted motion we ought to be able to maintain the same level of straightness that we started with. This is not difficult to accomplish as long as we don't try to take it back too far. It all begins with a good setup that facilitates an effortless 45 degrees of hip turn. From there all we need is another 45 degrees of shoulder turn to get to the full 90. If any of those turns are restricted by an improper setup, then the lead arm will fight the stymied torso and have a good chance of breaking down. There will be plenty of "whip" resulting from a properly executed motion. To this end, ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and this includes maintaining a straight (but not stiff or tense) lead arm. This can feel rigid and overly structured initially, but that will dissipate, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. @@SagutoGolf thanks Tom, I hit 150 balls down the range today, taking my time to implement what I'm calling my "Tom Swing" and yes at first it felt rigid, it felt forced but as I started to relax and let the body work itself, I started to get those crispy connections. More than distance, I gained some consistency of strike. Loading the lead leg was my only thought by the end, the rest has become second nature. I play tomorrow afternoon and score be damned, I'm going to play this swing start to finish because i can FEEL it's right. Bravo
