Aww grandma sounds like a legend. I wasn’t a hopeless picky person but my Korean wife broadened my views so much more. Bearing in mind my parents were born in Jamaica and my mum enjoys pretty things such as tripe. Somehow I guess I was westernised and didn’t go too far out of my comfort zone. By the way it works both ways. While my wife is not picky at all, her mind has been blown at Jamaican cooking.

I’m Indian and I’m not gonna lie the spice is not that spicy. Everyone says the food is so spicy. Then a few others says it is not. People try North Indian and north tends to not be so spicy and more spicy. South is the real spicy thing. I’m South Indian and some food literally have peppers on the side. I don’t react when I have jalapeños and my friends say Indians have a higher spice tolerance than the spice king

I have a little trick for this but you gotta have people you know will eat anything. If you wanna try something new in a restaurant or anywhere really call a friend/family member/anyone and have them order the dish. Also order something you like eating. Once the food arrives ask if you can try some. If you like it, that's good. Now you have a new food that you like. Just don't steal their food. If you don't like it, then the food you ordered for yourself is right there for you to eat. You don't waste money and you get to try new food. A win win if you ask me.

oh my gosh! i was the same 😭 i used to be a very picky eater, i only eat veggies if it's “chop seuy”. i also hated anything spicy to the point that i literally throw tantrums if I accidentally taste spiciness in my food... My mom used to experiment in foods a lot to find me and and my brother's palate(i think?) then one day in college, she cooked a “chop seuy” with a twist from a left over Filipino style spaghetti sauce but it has a little spiciness in it. You see, i had like a child-like taste up until my late teen years but after tasting my mom's little experiment of the only vegetable dish i liked (I even call that dish “Chopseughetti” fusion of chopseuy and spaghetti sauce lol) something shifted... Now, i can eat about anything (any native delicacies in my country and also other countries as well) on top of that, I can also confidently say I now loved spicy foods esp. after discovering Korean foods 8-9 yrs ago? I can even make my own kimchi and kimchi jjigae, my two most favorite Korean dish. If my younger self would see me eating these, she would definitely cry and get dramatic. 😂

I was a picky eater my entire life. I knew that I was one and I hated it. I was also a slow eater and overall just had a really bad relationship with food. Until one day, I decided to watch more cooking videos/vlogs, just like your channel! And for some reason, it worked. I suddenly wanted to try more different types of food instead of just the ones I was familiar with. I was open to new experiences and I learned to love more dishes. To be honest, I’d still consider myself picky, but it’s not as bad as it once was, and I eat a lot faster now. So, actually, it’s thanks to you that I got to eat more diverse foods and have a better relationship with food. Tysm, I love your videos 🫶🏼

I was somewhat similar! My parents grew up poor, so their food tastes were pretty limited despite them being financially comfortable/middle class by the time I was born. That meant that I didn’t get a lot of exposure to different foods (they didn’t like bland food or anything, so I still enjoyed a lot of seasonings and herbs in my food, they just didn’t try a ton of new cuisines or less common ingredients). I was scared to try new things growing up, in part because my mom always reacted so negatively to new foods she didn’t like, but I eventually grew out of that fear. Now trying new foods is one of my fav things! I really enjoy going to places with tasting menus, can eat raw fish/red meat, I no longer have to meticulously pick the mushrooms out of certain recipes (though I’m still not a fan of the typical grocery store mushroom-I prefer mushrooms that can be torn/shredded to the spongy types), and I love using all sorts of weird grains and veggies that my parents never fed me in cooking! Im so glad I eventually got out of the picky-eating-rut.

My mother grew up dirt poor. Like we eating iguana in the backyard poor. Like we squeezing the sugar canes ourselves with the mule dirt poor. Like you are eating mostly corn or fried dough or homemade chinese food dirt poor. Scratch that. Everything homemade. From the backyard. Like the toilet doesnt exist dirt poor. Its just a gisnt hole in the dirt inside a wood shed for privacy. She can still cook and has more depth of flavour than practically anyone. Most poor people do. Your parents just didnt care about food.

I’m black and I’ve loved Korean food since the very first time I tried it at about 15. It’s flavorful, it’s bold, it has so many layers, it’s amazing. But I think it’s very culture related. Because when it came to soul food, for a long time I didn’t like yams or cornbread dressing. I always thought they looked weird. Then the first time I tried it I was so upset with myself. How could I have ignored this delicious thing for so long?? 😭 Don’t be afraid to experiment with your palate, folks. Even if it looks weird, you’ll never know until you try it! Discovering cornbread dressing as a teenager in the southeast US changed my life! My family that were from the Northeast never made that, or any kind of soul food, even during the holidays. When I was 16 and had a boyfriend who's whole family as far back as basically forever, lived in Georgia. That's when I was introduced to Southern cooking ( by his mom, grandma, sister and aunt) and I gained 10 pounds in a year lol! Good Lord they could cook, and I couldn't wait to eat all of it 😅😛 And cornbread dressing became one of the great loves of my life. Me and him broke up after a few years, but me and CB dressing are still going strong, lol 😂 But I DO stay away from the chitlins 😂 I just can't get past the smell while they're cooking 😬😖

i’m half korean and i can’t fully relate to this sentiment. my parents werent great cooks but the korean church i used to go to always had amazing korean food so i would always forward to sundays lol. the thing is though i feel korean food is controversial among nonkoreans. i’ve seen people like the food but i’ve also seen people who don’t like it at all, saying it’s bland or ranking it as the lowest in all of asian cuisine. i’ve also read extremely viciously mean comments on an anonymous cooking forum (but given the nature of the people there i should’ve expected those types of comments). i honestly kind of just don’t want korean food to be known, because of comments like that and i’d rather just gatekeep it for those who appreciate korean flavors instead of trying to spread it mainstream.

Sundubu jjigae is my favorite korean dish 🥺 i am also kind of a picky eater. Ever since the pandemic ive hated how restrictive my palette was so i decided to try more things and now a lot of food that i hated are now some of my favorites. Its rly made me more open and exicted about food!

Omg I used to hate Korean food too (I’m Korean) I would always complain when our family went out to Korean restaurants and disliked home cooked meals. Instead I wanted food like pasta, pizza, and etc. I absolutely hated kimchi and couldn’t even bring myself to swallow it. But now as an adult the only thing I want is Korean food and kimchi became the one side dish I must have. Now I understand why my family likes to eat Korean food even when traveling.

My parents always told me to try one bite and if I didn’t like it, I didn’t have to eat it. That was how I started eating things even THEY wouldn’t. For example, I believe I was around 11 when I was eating teriyaki eel and I even got my mom to try it. I was also a weird kid 😂 I liked most vegetables, especially broccoli. The only veggies I won’t eat are Brussel sprouts, asparagus, bok choy, and mushrooms(I know they aren’t really a veggie). There are so many flavors of the world I want to try, even if my parents would never. Open yourself up to the ‘just one bite’ mentality and your palate will broaden. Also remember that your tastebuds change, so if you haven’t had something in a while, try it again. You might like it…or you might not. It’s like throwing a d20, sometimes. I still don’t like asparagus or parsley or cilantro, but I also started to grow a dislike for the texture of mussels when I loved them as a child. I, also, find myself likening some kinds of nuts, when I despised them as a child. Things change. YOU change. Let yourself experience the world, even if it’s just through food. Food can take you on a journey nothing else can.

this is always what i say to my lil sister (she’s 14 btw). she’s really a picky eater. she’s too scared to try something new. the reason she always says is “i know that i will not like it, why try it”. like… you will never know, if you will never try. so yea.

I was picky too. my mom eats like a toddler and growing up she always made exaggerated gagging sounds and said eeewww loudly at pretty much anything besides meat and potatoes. my sister was the same until I had a loaded veggie filled sub sandwich and I told my sis she could have half of it but she had to take one big bite with everything first. she did and loved it. she was shocked how good it was because she had literally never had lettuce. now we are both foodies and love all kinds of food, we just finished a big hotpot with bean sprouts, tofu, cabbage... we love it all!

People always thought of me as a picky eater when i was younger,not eating the steamed vegetables or boiled soups my parents made as well as hating pickles and anything similar. now that im older i understand i simply like my food… taken apart and fresh. instead of eating soups i enjoy eating fresh tomatoes,not cooked. i like things not cooked (if its vegetables or fruits) as having them cooked would give me the impression that they were rotten and mushy, i could enjoy bananas as long as they havent been in the oven becuse that made me hate them

This really gives me hope for my 4 year old middle son, I know he likes food but he's so stubborn that if he likes rice it's only plain rice nothing with it, like somehow a sauce or spice would just be the worst for him 🤦🏼‍♀️ boild potatoes okay but baked is a no go for him. I'll just be patient and keep offering him different food and hope he sees the light 😅

I’m genuinely curious if cucumbers are different in Korea than the uk, I honestly didn’t think it was even possible to dislike them but now I’ve seen so many Koreans who do t eat it and it’s really puzzling

I've always thought of cucumber as being the most inoffensive tasting vegetable you could have. English cucumbers are the verity we have in the UK which are bigger and more watery compared to others apparently it's sweeter as well. Maybe that's it?
@fishfingers8441
@fishfingers8441 Жыл бұрын
@@theblackrose3130 yeah I’m gonna assume though, I’ve never met a single person growing up in the uk that disliked cucumber. Makes sense that it doesn’t taste like much compared to others.

I am not a picky eater and i hate it when I don't like something. If there is something I don't like but others do i always give it a second or third chance, maybe I will grow to like. There are lots of food I used to hate as a kid but now I can't live without it. So i always give a second chance to everything.
