When I first started out healing my relationship with food, I would allow myself to "overeat" or binge, just with healthy food. Eating too much of something good for you is better than eating too much fast food was my reasoning. And... It worked! It made me view healthy food as something I COULD enjoy, and I worked from there. Now I eat the right amount of food that's good for me every day and allow myself snacks that previously I would binge on. :) Honestly, you just have to be kind to yourself and let yourself eat what you feel you need, and if you're serious about caring for your health, it'll work out.

@Diah Reea Meat is a pretty healthy food and many species are obligate carnivores and can only eat meat. Meat is very calorically dense. Fat is healthy, needed for absorbing fat soluble vitamins, tasty and something our body requires because we can't produce fatty acids. Fat has twice the calories of other macros. There are also plenty of veggies that are calorically dense, like nuts, avocados, anything with dairy, etc. Healthy vs. unhealthy food is such a bad and vague way to look at food.

You are absolutely correct. I started paying attention to my cravings. I was astounded to see how wise my body was. I was craving avocado, sweet potatoes & greens. Turns out high in potassium. I had been rushed to ER with extremely high blood pressure earlier. I had low potassium. Hadn't paid attention to my craving. My body knew, i Hadn't listened. Surprise, surprise increased these foods & my bp returned to normal...in a day. Had to balance my sodium potassium ratio!

yes cravings tell you what your body needs but it doesn’t necessarily mean it needs that food you’re craving. like craving mcdonalds (aka fatty food) means your body needs calcium, for chocolate would be magnesium etc. so if i’m craving a non nutritious food, i try to give my body what it’s actually asking for, then if i still have my craving after a while i’ll allow myself to have it. listening and actually understanding my body’s cues has helped me fix my relationship with food so much.

@@braoha123 it's definitely not perfect, but for me it's just learning from experience what foods satisfy your cravings without making you feel like crap afterwards. When I'm craving a cupcake or a hamburger it's usually because I haven't eaten enough during the day and am trying to reach for easy calorie dense meals. With that in mind, eating something with fats without a big helping of sugar or cholesterol like an avocado and turkey sandwich would satisfy the craving without falling into bad eating habits.

I'm a Indian (from South India) and come from a vegetarian family. Cravings also depend a lot on the food habits you acquire in your formative years. My diet growing up consisted of a lot of fruits and veggies, legumes, rice, roti, beans and dairy. I also got introduced to "western" food like pizza and burgers (which is generally referred to as junk food), and also a lot of amazing Indian street food. But as I grow older, I'm beginning to appreciate the value of home cooked meals and there are genuinely days where I crave a nice vegetable subji and roti. And I've learnt to not label any food as junk and still do crave a good pizza, icecream or chips occasionally. And learning to cook has helped me try out so many healthy options from other cuisines around the world, like a yachaejeon, pad thai or even veggie pastas. Having an open mind and practicing moderation is the best way to eat healthy!

I totally agree with you. That's my opinion on food and eating too. Like you said, people can get used to healthy food, that's what I'm telling people too. A lot of people are used to McDonald's and fast food, Chips and Cola (literally) and because of all the chemical stuff in it, the body got used to the strong tastes. And when they eat something healthy they feel like the food is too "light". But you get used to healthy food, the more you eat it. After some time, you don't feel like eating fast food anymore, you just want fresh stuff to enter your Body, cause you feel that it gives you more nutrition and energy.

I had a health teacher in college who said "There are two types of food in this world. Food that is good for your body and food that's good for your soul. You need both to live a life that is both happy and healthy. It's just unfortunate they so rarely overlap."
@mouhitorinoboku9655
@mouhitorinoboku9655 7 ай бұрын
they definitely overlap, it's just that the healthy and good for the soul foods take a lot of time and preparation. for an example, bibimbap has a huge amount of veggies, good protein and rice, it's a wonderful balanced and extremely flavorful craveable meal but it takes quite a while to prep. golden pulao rice is another dish that qualifies as soul food and has a lot of health benefits if your making it at home with fresh roasted spices, chickpeas and golden raisins but it takes a lot of time. the best foods aren't fast to cook lol.

Health teacher?
@AgentSapphire
@AgentSapphire 7 ай бұрын
@@Bossman21D A "health teacher" is what Americans call a teacher that goes over the functions of the human body on a more practical level rather than a scientific one. This includes a range of things from basic wound care to sex ed to things you can do to keep your day-to-day mental health stable to understanding proper diet. In college the health classes will usually focus on one aspect of health. For example, a "women's health" class. Which, as the name implies, goes over common health issues that those of the biologically female sex might encounter during their lifetimes. Same idea behind "men's health." Something like a "mental health" class would be not only how to help keep your own mental health stable but how to deal with stress or grief and how to console others and help them through difficult situations etc.

@AgentSapphire
@AgentSapphire 7 ай бұрын
@@Bossman21D the statement IS about health. She went into the example of being on a diet and you go to a birthday and eat a slice of cake and then feel bad about doing it, you're more likely to cheat again since sugar makes you feel better and also the stress that comes with beating yourself up can also cause your body problems. Both mentally and physically. There is no point in allowing yourself the joy of some cake if you're gonna punish yourself for days and days after. This led into a big lecture on maintaining consistent positive outlooks and staying motivated. Especially when trying to do a difficult task. Including strategies in breaking depression spirals and how to seek out help.

I think for most people as lot as they aren’t eating exclusively deep fried foods, they’d do pretty good just sticking to trying to make sure to cover their basic protein and fruit/vegetable needs (instead of substrative diet planning). For example if I have meat or protein coffee in the morning my cravings are good to go until dinner, and I find I don’t binge on processed sweets if I have fruit regularly (only having them when I REALLY want them which is just a few times a month)…

You should still keep in mind what foods are good and what are not, different foods affect your body in different ways and my cravings didn’t start changing until I actively tried to eat better. Convenience food is specifically made to be as palatable as possible and be as addictive as legally possible, so just keep that in mind before you eat whatever whenever.

I dont know why but I always crave things that are from good memories. For example: i eat a lot of meat and don’t like the meat substitutes but I was raised by my great grandmother and she was a pescatarian. We ate a lot of “readi-burger which is basically smashed up means in a can that holds the cans shape. She use to pan fry it and give it to me with a side of pan fried diced potatoes and onions. It was a stable lunch growing up and since she has passed I have been craving it at least once a week. I have also been craving lemonade and my great uncle use to pick me up from school and take me to chick fil a for a chicken sandwich and a lemonade.

Not completely true.... the sugar and or, "junk" craving is linked to your body craving dopamine. The body created the craving to attain the boost of the neurotransmitter. There are other avenues to get this, "boost", but your body does need it. It's all about understanding the cravings and utilizing the best method to get your body what it needs.

Part of what she probably should have mentioned is listening to your body as means listening to when it’s full. Your body tells you it isn’t happy when it’s overstuffed. Also, she did kinda cover listening to your body vs listening to your mind. In the hot Cheetos example haha she craved a comfort after an emotionally turbulent time (a breakup), but it’s not what our body and mind need most of the time (hopefully). The body needs hydration and varied nutrition and will show those, although sometimes it’s delayed or subtle. Plus, she’s right about training our bodies to crave nutritious things. The more you eat yummy fruits and veggies regularly, the more you’ll notice going without them. But, you’re also right. All bodies are different based on genetics and lifestyle and access to food, so listening to your body doesn’t at all mean you’ll be slim. It should just hopefully mean a person’s mind and body will be some vague version of healthy

Succumbing to yours craving means more cravings and the harder it is for you to be satisfied, some health expert says that it's exactly the same as instant and delayed gratifications, if it becomes a habit it is almost impossible to satisfy your cravings unless you consume more sugar, sodium, etc.
@josephcheung5465
@josephcheung5465 6 ай бұрын
I agree, but sometimes it takes "succumbing" to cravings to understand that a certain food is not that great. For example, for the longest time ice cream was my "off limit unhealthy food" and I would obsesses over when I could finally indulge and when I did, it was just ok tasting. However my cravings still came because I kept restricting. In regards to your idea of delayed gratification, our brain forms habits primarily through dopamine, or things that feel good. You may delay the slice of cake with a salad, but that is highly unsustainable. Sheer willpower will lead to burn out real quick. It is way more effective to find gratification in heathy food rather than thinking "omg I have to eat this trash salad so I can eat chocolate cake". "self control" will only get so far if for you look at every healthy meal as eating sad bland food.

usually when people crave sugar what they're "really" craving is something calorically dense, for example women tend to crave sweets before/during their period because they burn more calories during it. if you suffer from a lot of sugar cravings you might not be eating enough and or might not be getting enough nutrients from your food. all that being said: yes, most people in the west are most likely addicted to sugar.

For those who don't know, this is not a video to teach you how to lose weight. This will either help you maintain your weight if you exercise and gain weight for those who need to. If you want to lose weight, add all the nutritions you need while cutting down on sugar and exercising 3-5 days a week. And no, if your cheat days are every day, it wont work.
