Don’t be afraid of colorwork socks! They’re so small it’s no big deal if you have to rip back a bit! Biggest tip I got for colorwork socks is knit them inside out so your floats have to travel a little farther

Ooo that’s a good tip for when I get the courage! Haha

Ditto! I got the stranded color work bug this summer and bought the colorwork cuff club. The first one I knit I had to rip back three times....but it was only the 13 colorwork rows so no big deal. Now that I've learned how to do it in a way that fits and looks good it's easy peasy. Tip: read up on how Stoneknits suggests doing color work in socks (inc sts for the colorwork). It's a different perspective than summer lee (inc needle size) and you can decide which works best for you!

Sock color knitting is fun! It feels like you might be overthinking and psyching yourself out.

I love your colorwork ideas. I would focus on the projects you are most excited about. I am in the colorwork cuff club and I feel this is a great way to experiment with colorwork in socks as you get new patterns each month to continue to work on your colorwork skills.

I’m new to sock knitting and the Flower sock from Summer Lee was my first color work sock. Goodness!! It took me quite a few tries but I was determined to not give up. I believe 6 times. 😅 Using the shorties was my game changer. I tried with dpn’s and magic loop. Which my normal favorite is magic loop. But I couldn’t keep good tension with those two options. A pot caster was talking about the same ones and mentioned the same issue and one of the comments told her to try it and it worked for her. And me too. Now I’m excited to get started on one of the other ones.

Lol my dog groans the same way! I love the flower power “cardi”. I’ve never done stranded colour work on a sweater…I made the positivity beanie which was stranded colour work and it was a fail but that’s bc the yarn was all wrong. Then I made my son a hat with dinosaurs on it and that was good. But I’m always so nervous about it being too tight or catching my floats wrong.

I’m nervous about that too! I like the doodle infinity cowl because all the strands and floats are hidden on the inside! I want to try the positivity beanie some time too

I love colorwork. I am so behind on the doodle decks. The Flower Power pullover is so unique. It sure looks like a great project.

Hi Leslie 😁 I would highly recommend either the Porcelain or Terracotta sweater by Lene Holme Samsøe. I’m currently working on the Terracotta & it’s a great pattern & the purling colour work really isn’t much of a pain as it explains to knit both colours together at the beginning of every row to keep the yarns going along together. I’m going to knit the Porcelain sweater once this is finished. Look forward to seeing whatever you choose to make though & always love your podcasts 🥰🇬🇧

Hi Lesley. Love the yarns you have chosen to do your sweaters with. I found when knitting colourowork socks you need more stitches as otherwise it draws the sock in as I learnt this with my first colourwork sock and it didn;t fit well. It was a bit tight. I ended up added aobout 5-19 extra stitches and this has made it much better. Hope this idea helps. Enjoy if you start a new sweater. Enjoy the weekend.

I love the idea of the beneath the waves cowl. I love how you are taking the pattern and making it your own. I think you would have a lot of fun doing the iPad eReader cover as your next project.

Try the perfect pansy cuffs on Ravelry. It will give you a good idea how to do color work in the round without doing a whole garment or a sock. You have given me inspiration to do the stowaway sweater. I recently joined Summer Lee’s sock Cuff club and it’s fun. You might want to check out Earthtones Girl podcast sock knitting class #9. She teaches the shadow wrap heel. And makes a very nice fitting heel.Have fun and see you on the next one!

The colourwork Boop: after a few inches, pull the stitches along the right needle to create space between stitches and to give your tension lots of space. Loose floats are better than tight ones. And blocking will help even out the puckering. Don't be disappointed as you knit if it looks like it's scrunched

Have you seen the Jethro cardigan by Tanis Fiber Arts? It is a combination of granny squares and knitting - lots of colors! - I am dying to knit it! Also, one tip that has helped me with colorwork is thinking about the width of each stitch . Stitches are “vertical” on the needle, but they become “horizontal” as they are knitted. The float must be long enough to fit behind all the horizontal stitches, including the last one you knit. I think it is easier to picture when you think of how wide the stitches are after knitting. Do you know Andrea Rangel? She has some wonderful motifs in two books: Alterknit and Knitovation. Love your idea for the cowl!
