Great to see it's actually a decent midi controller. I so often fall into the trap of my brain going "ooooh, lights go blinky blinky". Brilliant review, Stephen!

Thanks! I am sure it won't suit everybody's use cases, and it can be strange to get used to, but as a general customisable pad controller for different bits of gear it's been great so far.

Oh yes, it DOES look really cool (which is my number one priority for any gear). But most of all I am curious how you're going to set it up with the M8, but I guess you'll show us :)
@StephenMcLeod
@StephenMcLeod 9 ай бұрын
Pleasure of ownership and aesthetics are definitely considerations for expensive purchases! M8 wise... I'll be using it to replace my Behringer controllers. So assigning faders to different attributes. One for the volume of each track, then an ALT page with faders for each individual track's FX (e.g. a fader for the reverb level of Track 1, etc). The one problem is that the faders won't be set to the volume or level of each track at the outset. That's a challenge no matter what controller I use, but I found a workaround for it on the Behringer controllers by sending the MIDI positions at the start of each track back to the controller, so the faders or knobs were already in position - but I can't do that here. I'm going to have to find a better way of doing it. Perhaps adjusting all my songs so the levels are equal, but that won't really work for FX either. So I'm unsure.

Love your honest review of this device,,and the fact that you used the words “genius”, “awesome” certainly speaks volumes and these are words that you personally don’t throw about lightly! I would so love you to do more videos with this unit incorporated into your musical creations that you share on this channel,,that would be the “perfect icing on the cake”. This device looks so promising and has so much to offer,,I now feel the need to go source one and demo it for sure! Thanks for sharing!!🙏

Oh God, now I feel the pressure. This definitely won't be for everybody, but it's such a cool idea that works well in practice, and with the actual MIDI connection out (no USB) it makes life so much easier! I'll be using it in future with other things as well, though largely for live purposes I think. Thanks for commenting!

I love how customizable it is and the fact I can use drumsticks on it. Its a little limited in some areas with MIDI and the clip launcher only works with Live. Being able to switch layouts on the fly is excellent. There has been some issues around support and delivery but Embodme is a small company and has the same kind of issues that small manufacturers face. How do you mount it, as its rather large? I have it on a separate tripod at the moment.

I just grabbed a launchad pro but i was eyeballing the ERAE I just had too many unanswered questions around it. It looks very useful though. One big issue i have with ALL pad controllers (even the launchpad) is the amount of pressure to trigger it. I really want a configurable colour LCD controller that is touch AND pressure sensitive. I've yet to find a controller that doesn't need a small degree of pressure to trigger the pad. Sometimes i dont need pressure, I just want any type of touch to trigger it. Hows the ERAE? you look like you are still having to apply some pressure?
@StephenMcLeod
@StephenMcLeod 9 ай бұрын
That's a good shout. Yeah, you do need to apply a bit of pressure - it won't recognise just brushes or touches alone. Calibrating yourself and the thing to that can take a bit of getting used to.

All My Friends Have Lights. It's kind of humourous you've avoided mentioning the gear name in text in the title/description. So, it doesn't feel like massaging a dead prostitute, like the Roli gel? I approve of the bite test. I usually do the lick test. PS: I think "erae" is pronounced eh-rye rather than eh-ree. I know it from Japanese where it means "great", but of course Embodme are French.. so I wonder if they're using the Latin word meaning "era" (both pronounced the same anyroad)

Oh stop. I am not a fan of minijack midi either, but there is no real alternative. Putting full sized midi din jacks simply isn't possible on the majority of gear. At least they've actually put a hardware connection here instead of just usb. Saying minijack midi isn't for serious gear is just utter rubbish.

Right. I love full sized MIDI DIN, and think it should be used where possible - but we couldn't have physical MIDI connections on devices like the Dirtywave M8 for example.
