Highly recommend a commercial ionizer. Run it for 12 hours at night when you’re not there. When you arrive the next day open the door and air it out really good before closing the door. For really smelly books you might need to run it several nights. It will make everything smell crisp and clean. ❤

When I first saw your big container haul video I didnt realise just how many books you took back to the warehouse. OMG MEL. I WAS SO SHOCKED! Nice to hear NO BUGS. As usual, you just knuckled down and sorted box after box straight away. Great idea to take the older books off the shelves and put the haul in their place. This should allow the smell to clear until you manage to list them. Please dont over do it. Take meal and drink breaks and look after yourself. Well done with the 10x challenge. Love and hugs fron sunny Spain. xxxx

Bulk Buys: I know this particular buy is done and you have really caught up these last few months on your organization, but I have a suggestion for you to consider moving forward. Have you ever considered getting some 2 or 3 level commercial metal rolling carts or half height rolling metro racks with heavy duty casters? I use about a dozen of the old Audio Video school carts, of the type that held movie and slide projectors. I got mine cheap at a government auction. I can put 2 boxes (about the size of copy paper boxes) on each of the lower 2 shelves and 2 or 4 stacked on top. I roll the empty carts out the door to my truck, then roll them in loaded. They can be parked by the door, or temporarily rolled in front of a fixed shelf and moved aside if I need access to the fixed shelves. I see you stacking boxes directly on the floor in many of your videos, then bending to pick up boxes because they are in the way. Putting the incoming books on narrow sturdy carts would make them a lot easier to handle, especially while still boxed.

Vinegar is great and I do like to keep hidden bowls of that around the warehouse behind shelves and in corners. It’s great for reducing odours. I don’t notice it as much in this warehouse but in my last eBay shed it was smaller and I needed more vinegar bowls. Occasionally if I notice a strong odour on a book lot i will just make a note in the description “Aged book odour noted” and then make it acceptable to be safe. It’s not that I often I actually notice smelly books. I don’t really pick them up like that.

How cold was it to cause the earwarmers? We have inversed seasons to you in Canada so it's getting warmer here. Though when I spent a month visiting my uncle in Australia I remember that when it was 20 celsius I was wearing a jacket! Here if it's 20 celsius many are in shorts haha.

Probably 0-2 degrees Celsius in the warehouse that day.

Why don't you buy a portable heater?
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout Жыл бұрын
I have one that I need to bring in. I just don’t sit in the one place for long and it would be too hard and costly to try and heat the whole warehouse for a few hours

I’m doing my listing from home so I don’t sit at the computer for long there and I’m always moving around in the warehouse

You have to be careful of trashing books just because they are falling apart. I have a book that I found while cleaning out a house that was was torn and coming apart, was going to trash it. My gut told me to look it up first. I could only find 4 for sale anywhere online, all 4 were in worse condition than mine. Apparently this book was so rare that even in its condition was valued at over $400. From what I could gather the value was because of the content of the story for the time period it was written combined with the author.

Oh yes. I do be careful and anything I’m unsure of I will look up or rehome.

I’m just transitioning to reselling. Books do you think it’s better to buy a hall of say 1000 books rather than going out every week ?

How are you listing so many listings in one day? It takes me hours to do 20😢
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout Жыл бұрын
I batch my photos first in bulk. I then sit to list with zero distractions. I list fast. I sell similar off my own store whenever possible. And I sell a lot of the same types of books so am familiar with pricing.

Did you have to clean any books you just sourced from that container? Did any have smells and if so what do you do with them?
@backfromburnout
@backfromburnout Жыл бұрын
Im cleaning surfaces with baby wipes and eucalyptus and I dust sides of pages also if needed. The smell is less now they’re out of the boxes and being aired.
