I'm a 43-year-old divorced security guard. I've also been writing for something like 30 years and doing art for close to 10 now, so the idea of doing a series about my job or just incorporating it in fiction in some way has definitely popped into my head from time to time. I'm so glad people are getting more invested into serious "adult" stories now. We could do with some more relatability in the genre as we age and mature into the next part of life.

I've been thinking about something similar; I'm a farmer and I also herd sheeps and goats. a managing style game would be cool; I have my family as a model on my mind; younger brother; advantages; doesnt even complain, starts doing stuff right away, can easily learn how to drive a tractor or car sister; similar to younger brother but both of them have limited capability in farming due to their limited understanding; their saving grace is their speed and commitment they can follow instructions easily. mom; very flexible and have high levels of discipline. she however limited by her physichal conditions. dad; very dedicated to every task and extremely disciplined; but like mother hes limited by his deterioring physique big brother; hes at the peak of his physique and dedication. cannot drive cars or tractor but can gor anywhere by walking and running. excels at innovation and information gathering, very dedicated but also distracted by his loneliness. you are will be going to tasked with using these characers to run a family farming business; you have sheeps and goats to herd, field to till and plant and buy-sells to manage.

Ah, this manga really clicks with me. Not cuz i hung out with a goth girl behind a store but because I had exactly what Garnt described happen to me. It was an exhausting day so I decided to go to the local pond. Surprise surprise, it was full of couples. So, I decided that rather than entering the pond's walls, i would chill on the outside grass. Besides the weird glances I got from people, it was oddly relaxing to find peace in such a humble place. Not a bench for teen couples or a extricate architectural bench to rest your buttocks on. Just a patch of green grass growing under a tree. Soon, another gentleman joined me. He was a decade or two older than me and looked tired. At first, we didn't talk at all but he started a conversation by asking, "Want a cig?". I declined, because I don't smoke. But, that question sparked a 5 hour long conversation between the two of us. In those 5 hours, I didn't ask any personal detail about him except his name, neither did he. We just talked. About nothing deep or meaningful in particular. Just mundane topics like our respective workplaces, the stingy stallowner across the road, dating lives, the weather, food, etc. He even shared a lot of banter he has with his wife in final hour. I loved every bit of that conversation. It was so insignificant that it remains in my heart not as a detailed and thrilling experience but a tranquil one that calm my heart. I don't remember his face since it's been a year or two. I don't know where he is today, but hopefully in a better place than he was then.

I’m not much of a manga reader but I have to read this one. Your video about it made me nostalgic. I was friends with a 48 yr old when I was 22. We both worked in the kitchen of the same restaurant that was conveniently next to a bar. We always hung out to drink together next door when a work day was rough (or not 😂). There were no ulterior motives, no sneaky plans, nothing. Just 2 adults complaining about the same job and enjoying their free time together. He’d watch over my drinks and steer away unwanted men, and I’d hear him out about his wife issues and just talk about life in general. That was about 5 years ago now, I haven’t been in touch with him since. If I can get that same vibe off this manga, I might just cry.

There's this particular sub-genre of slice of life called iyashikei that I love. Basically anime meant to be just vibes. Think Yuru Camp, Campfire Cooking in Another World, Insomniacs After School, Skip and Loafer or Natsume Yuujinchou. it feels odd to have followed a series from so early on to finally see it become so well known and popular that Gigguk makes a video on it. It's such a comfy story, and yes, smoking looks cool as fuck, no matter how much durries suck. Even got Subaru smoking as a big old magnet on my fridge. edit: Actually, speaking of slice of life with adults, this is why I loved Sing Yesterday for Me. I think smoking does not look inherently cool. The cigarette companies just use cool movie characters as advertisements for smoking so from a young age people will associate cigarettes with cool people. @@ishab.6798 It absolutely looks inherently cool. Wotakoi pretty much ruined standard romance anime for me because it was just leagues better. No bullshit tropes, no misunderstandings that could be solved by a 30 second explanation, no doki doki heart explosion just because you brushed against a hand. @@MrYuntu Adult romance IS boring though. That's why it's relatable. The point of the show is two people that happen to meet and don't know if they even like each other or if they're just dating out of convenience. Which is a perfectly real thing. It's been a long time since I've watched it but it had scenarios that an actual adult might deal with. Insecurities that feel probable. The two characters not having chemistry is also probable. High school romance is about wish fulfillment because of course the two will end up together eventually. It's destiny. I still really enjoyed it.

Honestly, yes. We need more content about adults. Stories don't have to be about high schoolers with exaggerated personalities to be wholesome and cute. In fact, moving away from that really does make them more relatable to a big portion of people who read these manga and watch these anime. You can also look at real problems and situations working adults and people in developed relationships experience, not just teenage drama that has little real impact.

This reason is why I'm seriously getting invested into "Married Life" series like _Tonikawa,_ and even the entire premise of the hero of _Jigokuraku_ is to get back to his wife, alive and in one piece. It's seriously wholesome and there's a _lot_ of fertile ground in the genre to dig into more mature settings and ideas apart from traditional _seinen._

This. I understand that from a producer perspective, they know that A LOT of people grow out of anime/manga as they grow up (aside from a handful of "for the whole family" shows that adults can watch with their kids), but I think it's worth questioning whether that really is an inevitability. Are there so few adult-themed ones because adults aren't into anime/manga or isn't it more that adults lose interest BECAUSE there are very few anime/manga that speak to them? Like, yeah reminiscing about my highschool days is nice from time to time, but ultimately, I live in the present and face adult problems, and would like to see characters struggling with adult problems too. I know Japan has its own culture and all, but considering how popular hobbies that used to be only for kids are overseas, I think there's definitely some value in having more anime/manga aimed at adults too. I mean, hey, we're the ones with all the disposable income, you know? From a business standpoint, it's a pretty desireable demographic 🤷‍♀️ So there's good reason to tap into that market a bit more decisively.

High school stuff isn't appealing and makes me feel creepy. But this is such a fantastic read! Thank you for putting this out to the world, Gigguk! If anyone finds this good, I also suggest 'So You Tomorrow At The Food Court" - It's high school girls talking, but feels like the high school aspect is more in line with trying to sell to a wider audience, because it basically feels like a 20-30 somethings' visual podcast. It's super relaxing to read.

The daily 9 to 5 or whatever schedule you work as an adult makes you frustrated but the little things are what keep you from running away. The McDonalds worker that is always a little weirdly chipper in a good way, the same people saying goodnight to you as you leave. The same road you take, the gas station that has the snack. These things are what make this grind bearable and it's really beautiful to see a manga take that as its whole premise.

Been reading SoL stuff since I was in high school, so back then, at least the age was something I could relate to. Now that I'm getting into my mid-20s, reading teenage SoL leaves me with regrets I never had for my own life- so having adults in the picture for once, taking the center stage, brings something much more relatable to the table. Another series that hit close to home was Barakamon, and I would recommend it to all of us burnt-out 20 year something adults.

In my opinion, this is truly a masterpiece in manga, highly recommended. Hope I get a chance to see the boys live......

As a smoker i have talked to a lot of different people that i meet in smoking sections or outside of a cafe or a restaurant. You would be amazed how easy it is to talk to people about different things while sharing a smoke break. It's one of the little thing of life that i truly enjoy.

It feels great when random manga you just happen to read starts to get more attention when Gigguk makes a video about it.

Fun fact, back in 2016 I’ve worked at a slow cafe/salad restaurant where I know a supervisor who smokes and chills at night outside in the back of the restaurant. She was pretty we both chilled and talk outside most nights, though I’ve never smoked at all. Idk but felt something in me woke up

I’ve been reading this one for a while and I’m absolutely hooked. I’m a few chapters behind the English translations that I can find but from what I have read, it’s sooooo good. I’m glad someone with a larger platform is finally giving it attention. It deserves it.
