What was it that W C Field said? Never work with children and animals. And thus, the joys of live television!

Opening segment just proves the actors' dictum about the danger of sharing the stage with children and animals. Garry tried his best, but I'm with Henry -- calling all those animals the boy's pets is a real stretch, even if they were all pets in his family. The sensory experiments were better suited to Mr. Wizard or some other science show than to IGAS -- and didn't even prove the assertion about aroma vs. taste. I'll bet the producing staff sat down for a discussion afterward about how not to let the show get out of hand like this again.

Yup, smoking on t.v. broadcasts was normal back then, and all the way through Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show, and beyond. Thank goodness times have changed for the better. I love Peter Lorre's voice. Slightly menacing.

After you’ve smelled a few things, your nose stops working for a while. That’s why most of the panelists had trouble smelling the last several scents.

I'm guessing that Henry and the people having a fit in these comments are city folk. Y'all never been 'round the farm much, have ya? And you seem to think that the kid has to have bought the freakin things and paid all their vet bills himself to have the right to call them pets. I feel sorry for your childhoods...

Betsy and Bess are as tall or taller than all the men on stage. I'm sure high heels are helping.

Modern game shows need to allow smoking again. Very sophisticated.

You are sadly entitled. I had all kinds of animals from the age of birth. I'm 71. The truth is, even though my name is Karen, you sound like it should be your name. I'll say a prayer for your lack of understanding and knowledge. You must not have been allowed animals. Sorry for your lack of knowledge.

I will say this I think Gary was good with animals and young children. He must have reeked of cigarettes though.

Baby in one hand, lit cigarette in the other hand. That’s how they did it in the ‘50s.

And how much faster people aged back then. It's astounding what a difference less tobacco 24/7 can make.
