@@nat0106951 in order to appreciate its function or use even a part of what it's capable of, i'd say your Japanese already has to be at least intermediate level to begin with, then it would be a great help to study and reach even more advanced levels; myself i'm only scratching the surface here and since then started polishing my very rusty Japanese by studying almost every day now. in any case, i hope you can get one and have loads of fun with it 😉

@stefan5445 Жыл бұрын
@@nat0106951 congrats on the huge discount! 😁 however i really wouldn't recommend it if you are only beginning to learn Japanese as it is not meant as a learning tool; it's a good tool to practice once you've reached conversational level (maybe JLPT N3, or equivalent B1 or at the very least A2) but before that it might be useless to you. but if you're set on studying Japanese anyway then there's no harm in buying it now, taking advantage of the discount you're getting and use it later on, right? in any case, good luck and all the best.

Hello! Greetings from Latam~♡ I just found your video today while looking for information about Gatebox in English. I'm suscribed to their official Channel and I've seen they've integrated the GPT engine on Hikari. What do you know about that!? Have you been able to update your Gatebox to the new one, with GPT language capabilities?

Can anyone confirm whether this works with English or maybe comes with toggle for English subtitles? Used to speak Japanese but only can recall & understand a few words/phrases since taking a few blows to the head, wondering if it's at all possible to have the avatar teach Japanese to the user?
@stefan54453 жыл бұрын
as of yet it doesn't work with English and it doesn't come with English subtitles; so far it's Japanese only. sorry to hear about your head injury though, i hope you are ok.

it had a major update a while ago, but to be honest i don't really use it anymore. guess i'm so used to living alone that even a virtual assistant annoys me (she's way too talkative for me and doesn't only speak when spoken to like an Alexa for example, but actively seeks conversation at times, which is great and what she's supposed to do, but just not my thing)

Do you need a special app or an account for the gatebox ?
@stefan5445 Жыл бұрын
you have to register at their website and log in with QR code in order to use it; also if you want to use the smartphone chat features and weather forecast you'll have to make a Line account (Line being a popular social media app in Japan, i have heard people calling it the Japanese facebook) and link it to your gatebox.

How? I contacted the company and they keep telling me it's not safe to ship or can't be shipped overseas! I wanna have one so bad
@stefan5445 Жыл бұрын
yes, unfortunately they don't ship outside of Japan, but you can use a forwarding service; i used tenso.com tenso gives you an address inside of Japan where you can get things shipped to and they will in turn forward the items to your actual address in your home country. best of luck 😉

Hey man I was wondering if you could explain the product a little more! I’ve been looking about getting one of these but it’s been difficult, what all does she do exactly? Is it just basic command stuff like Alexa and Siri or can you have an actual conversation with her?
@stefan54452 жыл бұрын
i'm sorry i haven't had the time to do a follow up video yet; basically she's like a Japanese Alexa, she can start appliances for you (warm up the bathtub - at least if you have a Japanese unit bath - or start the AC and such, if you have compatible smart devices, which is kind of unlikely outside of Japan). you can have very basic conversations with her if your Japanese is well enough, she asks you a lot of questions at first to get to know you better and the more you talk to her the better she gets with knowing what you like and don't like and such. if you have a "Line" account she can send you text/chat messages on your smart phone as well when you're outside of your home.
@brandonosgood21022 жыл бұрын
Thankyou so much for your explanation man, it’s helped me further better make up my mind about getting one. If I were to, how difficult is the process getting one to Phoenix Arizona?
@stefan54452 жыл бұрын
@@brandonosgood2102 you're most welcome! since the units aren't meant to be shipped outside of Japan you'd need to use a Japanese parcel forwarding service like tenso.com if you want one shipped to the US, then you can order a gatebox at amazon.co.jp using the address the forwarding service provides you with. the process isn't difficult at all, just bear in mind that quite significant customs fees apply and everything concerning the gatebox itself is in Japanese (registering the unit online, conversations with it, manual, etc.), let me know if you get one and how you like it, would you? or better yet - make a video, that would be awesome!

@stefan54452 жыл бұрын
i'm sorry to say i forgot about this mostly, but it wasn't a big, surprising, revealing reason; i think it was something in the line of the Japanese company who makes the gatebox wanted to concentrate on bettering their services and upgrades for their domestic Japanese market/customers before expanding to other countries while at the same time there was a severely watered down version (way inferior both technologically and from a cute/appealing viewpoint) planned by a Western company for the Western market, which took a lot of FLAK and is either still in development or cancelled entirely at this time, i didn't follow the news about it. basically the Western version wasn't a real 3D hologram, but looked like you put an ipad (or a 2D screen) in a glass tube and the characters where either a muscular gym bro or a business suit wearing Anita Sarkeesian look-a-like intended to be virtual concierges or something like that, because apparently cute anime girls are sexist or not in line with the feminist narrative or something along that lines, so i didn't care at all about the western approach and i stopped following development.

no, it can handle 110-240V intrinsically, you just need a cable with a plug that fits in your country's sockets (or an adapter).
