I am a retired scientist specializing in animal behavior. I consider nature photos to be "data". When I look at them I draw conclusions about how animals behave. When animals photographs are altered, there is the possibility that the altered photograph shows an aspect of behavior that would never occur naturally. For example, if one moves birds on a telephone wire closer together, that could suggest a smaller "personal space". If one flips an animal horizontally so that it is looking at another animal, that could suggest a social interaction that might never actually occur. This is part of the larger question of how much manipulation is acceptable. In journalism, there is zero acceptance of manipulation. In photographs of animals, particularly when they are interacting with other animals, I'm not sure where the line should be drawn. Just something to keep in mind.

Matt, I've discovered something very strange. In ACR if you use the targeted adjustment tool on White, even a blank white document, only the Red color changes? Any ideas? All 3 primary colors should change since white is additive from red, green and blue.

Cool. Another tip: If you want to move things like this directly in Lightroom, use the clone tool with the subject as the *source. You can do this by selecting it initially to make sure you have a good selection the move both your selection points. Move the *source selection over what you want moved (bird in this case). Move around the location being "cloned out" to place the item where you want it. Cleaner backgrounds work better and play with the feathering to help match the surrounding colors but this works very well and you don't need to loop into Photoshop. I do this on occasion when things like birds need nudged into a subjectively slightly better position.

So much for the simple background - how about a complex continuously changing background w/ color changes, object changes, size changes, tone changes ?

Hi… Give it a try. Concepts and tools are the same so let us know if it works on your background.

I have been wondering how to do this. Thank you so much. But I now have PS2021 And the move tool does not move the marquee tool, so what might I be doing incorrectly?
