Fergie didn't go for meaningless things like points totals, he went for trophies. Once we had won the league we chilled off. His last season we were 19 points ahead and once won it ended up getting beat a few times. The title not points is what matter. He hasn't broke fergie records, he's still well behind on prem wins fa cups. Pep didn't take a team 19th and take them on to win 13 titles over 20 year period building 5 different teams. Pep jumps from club to club as they are at a high point building on teams that were already successful by spending a lot of money hardly a challenge.

It's a dumb argument. In recent years Chelsea have spent 2.78 BILLION - That's three quarters of a billion MORE than both City and United who have spent roughly the same over the same period. They have one Champions league trophy to show for it, a final which City also reached, and that's about it. But United are the obvious comparison as they have spent almost exactly the same amount. They have won a couple of FA Cups, a couple of League Cups and the Europa League but that pales in significance to City's 6 titles in 7 years, 2 FA Cup, 5 League cups, European treble, domestic treble, 6 consecutive FA Cup semi finals, first club over to win 4 consecutive titles, first club to score over 100 goals, to reach over 100 points, and a host of goals and points records broken along the way. Even in an injury struck season they're still in 4th place as it stands while United are what, 14th? I'm not knocking United, Chelsea or anybody else but if it's not down to Pep then why aren't those two clubs competing every season and winning some of these trophies along the way? The reality is that apart from his first season, when City finished in 3rd place, they have won every title except for Liverpool's win in 2020 when they finished second. Neither Chelsea or United have won a single title between them in the Pep era despite having spent at least as much.

The thing I never ever see mentioned when people compare Sir Alex Ferguson with Pep Guardiola is that Fergie had to compete with two teams that at times came along with big bucks due to investment and managed after an initial struggle to overcome them. Chelsea were a massive force to be reckoned with at the start of the Abravomich era, United fought back and it was also the same with Manchester City in the early 2010s. Pep hasn't had to do that. The only team with more money than them is Newcastle and they aren't allowed to spend it. Ultimately City have always had an advantage the entire time he's been there.

This is one those arguements that where the narrative is based on your generation. For me Carlo Ancellotti is probably the greatest club manager ever. Why he is never put in these kind of conversations is crazy. I think it all depends on how you view the job done compared to resource. If you have more resource then anyone else I would expect you to be succesful. If you have to build the club to get the resource and then your successful....thats a better job done.
