Loving people from afar, to me it felt like they were just condescendingly pitying non worshippers, they outwardly put themselves as "being kind, because these people will die and never come back" kind of thing, and I never liked it, and it's why i left. To this day i am just glad i was lucky enough that i was never shunned, i can talk to my family, even though i can never talk against the religion to them, but they treat me just fine to an extent, but i am also frustrated that there isnt much i can do... and my sadness goes out to those that have it bad.

Thanks Lloyd and Ben that was an amazing interview. I was struck by the way Ben felt so bad about having to lie to his friends before he left. I feel that on reflection Ben will soon come to feel OK with this, because surely his friends will realise why he felt he had to communicate with them in the way he did. If these friends wake up themselves they surely will fully understand. If they don't wake up, they will probably feel let down, but may still have the humanity to understand. I wish Ben well for the future and look forward to his further exploits. I also feel that such interactions must be traumatic for Lloyd, and am not surprised that he needs to rest for a while.

As a young Ex-JW who had a challenging road understanding my sexuality, my place in the world and starting off adulthood, I can only imagine how many more times difficult it can be being a full grown adult, having doubts in your heart, and knowing others won't accept you for who you are. I’m surprised that women are not allowed to comment at bethel during the watchtower study? There’s a bethel couple in our congregation and they’ve invited another bethel couple that was in bethel during a zoom meeting. The couple was talking about bethel during lockdown and they were making it seem like it was great and amazing and getting to be more independent in their dorm rooms doing more spiritual stuff. That it out weighted their negative thoughts and fatigue they had of lockdown… Thinking back on this now the sister that was at bethel commented a lot during our watchtower study, and talked about how she loved hearing other sisters comments?!?! It all makes sense now! That’s crazy to me at least.

I was raised as a JW from the time I was born in 1964. In public school starting around age 9 or so I knew I was "different" and thought it was the religion that separated me from my classmates (I was the only boy who skipped rope with the girls and I was good at it!) . However, several years later I began to realize it was because I am gay and it was the worst realization; I spent decades trying to bury it. I remember being at a service meeting around age 17 when two sisters got up on the platform and gave a presentation about being gay and how Jehovah god detests it, and being absolutely terrified that everybody was looking at me and knowing. I spent a lot of years in a kind of hellish no-man's land neither one nor the other. I even tried delving into the religion in my 20's and getting baptized hoping I could pray the gay away but I felt dead inside the day I was baptized. Stopped going in 1995 and it wasn't until early 2001 that i was able to come out to my family, by that time I'd come close to suicide and was ready to take the consequences. Today happy with my long-term partner but still haunted by my JW upbringing, it's not so easy to get rid of all the indoctrination. This young man is very brave to speak out and I hope he has a happy life.

Was crying at the end there. An incredibly brave and courageous chap. And I can well imagine the journey of emotions he has been on since August, particularly once leaving the family home. Listening to him articulate his pain about lying to his friends and acknowledging that those men/women are beautiful people but that they’re essentially just sleep walking resonated so deeply. The panoply of painful, messy emotions in extricating oneself from this religion is a gruelling experience indeed. I’m currently studying to become a life coach and if Ben feels he would benefit from some sessions I’d be delighted to offer him them. Keep that dream burning bright, Ben!! 💫

Prayers out to you, Ben! I have a daughter that si always knew she had her inclinations since she was a preteen. And today she is living with her girl friend. They aren’t exposure girls when we go out they act like friends and that has helped me to accept this. But she is happy and I know she struggled with the situation because she got to have boyfriends (not witnesses) and has a son. She is very happy and I’m glad for her. She saids that she wouldn’t like Jehovah to change her - that’s what she is and she is happy of having her girl body Only that she is inclinated. I wish you Ben a very happy life ! News reported just recently here in Sweden, that the Swedish branch of JW has been awarded a compensation by the Chancellor of Justice. The amount is almost SEK 10M (almost €1 M), in addition to JW officially being eligible for yearly support grants (since 2019), and is paid in compensation for the 12 years it took for the Swedish government to decide on the matter. This makes me feel sick to my stomach... I would prefer the government didn't dish out grants for ANY religious organizations.

After having an OBE as you stated, I can see this life is just a brief experience we call human or as heard “Hu” - man ,light slowed down to matter. I had read quite a while back that one of the governing body members had a summer home in California and spent quite a bit of time there. Is that still allowed? Has it been put a stop to?

In my last comment about this video what I meant to say is that in bethel as in every Kingdom Hall everyone is able to walk out with no restrictions couse nobody cares inside this cult what anyone does ..really they just care for themselves , the real restriction is in your head because it’s a cult . His description of the different branches, I found to very true. Here in the US having been born in the Northeast and living it Texas now. The religion, rules and congregations definitely varied. Innercity Northeast....young ones left pretty early in my opinion. Down south, southeast, Texas...in rural and Suburban congregations. By the book. Brothers tended to go to Bethel right after high school. Pioneer. California? I felt like it was Club Med out there. Parties relaxed. More drinking. Music. Clothes and views on education not NEARLY as strict. California is where I met quite a few witnesses attending a four-year University and thinking DAMN !!! You all can go to college out here ? Or man...you guys can LISTEN to this music or WATCH this movie ? And as a brother...I found the sisters to be 🔥🔥🔥 Dress for Brothers and Sisters was way more casual than I expected. His explanation of the branches and the differences, I found to be true. As someone who came in at 19 from the world..it was extremely frustrating and confusing in my 20's. I really thought it was uniform across the board globally.

That is what they did to me! I walked into a meeting thinking Elders wanted to help me, little did I know it was 2 Elders and my then wife now x. I had no idea they had been meeting with her for at least a year prior. Completely deceived and it was all to disfellowship me which they failed . But 5 years later still no privileges and at least 4 bad letters against me. The harassment is Constant not one Elder ever encourages but just uses spiritual bullying. But somehow I have stayed the course. Deception is against all Jehovah stands for, Satan deceived Eve, and to see Elders use similar tactics is shocking, but wide spread.

Why bother going back to a Kingdom Hall? If nobody knows him from the new congregation just fade. No need to let them see you or introduce yourself. Moving is a perfect opportunity to fade since they lose track of you. Don't give them your address or contact information. If you have to then change it afterwards or give them the wrong information. But however you handle it all the best to you!

Unfortunately I was too ‘high up’ to fade. Bethel wanted me to work remotely, I know most of the branch, legal and service committees in the UK and Germany by name, I was a Bethel Elder moving from another country, there had been rumours of apostasy in my department. Plus, I couldn’t execute my plan without changing paths fast. Nope, fading wouldn’t work for me.

Can we donate any money to Ben to help him get on his feet? I can only imagine how scared he must be having nothing and no family to turn too? I would like for him to know that just because we don’t follow the JE org that we are good people and happy to help him break away for there manipulating ways.
