Jason and Marty carved their names into my Fender HM that Greg Howe also carved/signed. (and a few other guys) Got to see them at their last show with Cacaphony. It was the 4th of July and they were still stuck in our small city, so I hooked them up with the huge yearly metalhead bonfire party. The roadies were doing fireworks like little kids - because they had never gotten to since they lived in CA. Jason taught me a few techniques and riffs. TOTALLY cool dude.

The guitar player "scene" was at its peak. I was teen/20s... So I just thought it was all my "normal". The "perks" of only having a part-time job, being broke, and playing 3-12 hours a day. hah KZbin recommended this vid to me because my buddy (the other guitarist in our band back then) was in town visiting me for the 2nd time in a decade, and I asked him for an instrumental guitarist recommendation.

I owe a lot to you both as a guitarist. It was never because I emulated either one of you, but because you both taught me that I had no reason to be shamed of the classical modalities that I love so much and both of you are in the natural voice in my soul. Gus - you are easily the best sounding act I've ever seen live. I've got a gaggle of guitar nerd buddies who spent their night with their jaws on the floor and everybody I know wants more Gus G. solo material. And Cacophony - well, that was a big part of the foundation - the bridge between the years when we marveled at Akira's work, and Jason and Marty filled that void. This was a great moment, and more proof that Gus is a man of substance for returning to his roots to pay homage.
