There's an old saying that goes, a man who writes a poem for his woman loves her, but a man who writes 50 poems for his woman loves poems. I suspect it is much the same with waifus and giant paper cutouts.

The anime is a 1:1 adaptation so I can see why he'd feel it'd be redundant. I've never seen the anime because I played the game. He probably did play DR2 and V3 though. @@fixedfunshow Yeah, but the weird thing about being obsessed with Maizono is that she's literally the template character that dies in the first hour of story. For anyone to reach any level of obsession, you could infer that said person has at least some emotional closure developed into that specific character. Maybe he played the post-game of DR1 or V3, and THEN he realized that she was the perfect girl for him or something. But no, he literally just saw her, thought she was cute, and decided to show to the world his relentless infatuation for Sayaka Maizono, that's it. And this is a reminder that sometimes there are no big explanations in life, it just happened. As simple as that.

I like his parents' reaction, because it's neither dismissive nor delusionally "supportive," it feels very sober with a mix of "our kid's a bit of a nut" and "we're kinda proud of him". That's really nice. Also, as much as I still think this hobby is a bit off, I gotta hand it to Tobyn that he's making an actual craft out of it. I work in advertisement and before the pandemic, on-site presentations with prints on black cardboards were still a thing (and our biggest misery in the office.) I've gotten pretty good with a cutter knife over the years, but it still pales to what Tobyn is pulling off: seamless, perfect straight cuts along the print, no ruler, and on an A3-sized sheet as well. That's real skill. Good on him!! Thanks for this documentary, Nick!

So I used like 50 pages to print a real size version of Yuki from Fruits Basket. And put it on my wall in my room. I also covered all of my walls, every single little space, in pictures of my favorite mangas. Half my room was dedicated to Arina Tanemura. Every inch that wasn’t furniture was covered. I've always gravitated toward the folks that others see as being weird, and the sort of social outcasts who were seen as strange simply because their interest were outside the mainstream, and many of those weirdos are still my friends to this day. If more folks did what they were passionate about, and expressed themselves how they wanted without letting others opinions dictate how they live their lives, I think this world would be a far more kind place, and it'd definitely be a hell of alot more fun!

There's a fine line between eccentricity and insanity, and Tobyn casually uses that line as a jump rope. Truly, "the devil works fast, but Tobyn works faster." (Quotes because it's not my joke - someone @'d Tobyn when the new Hololive members debuted to ask him to do life-size FuwaMoco cutouts, and he responded with a photo of them completed and standing within an hour, prompting that response) Also his original art is horrifying but super cool. This man is clearly an artist and crafter first, anime fan second, and knowing that makes it all make more sense.

As campy as it is he seems like he has the potential to be an amazing artist. It’s easy to write off an artist and their work as less valuable when you can’t immediately understand or relate to it, like the way people have tended to view graffiti. The weird room with all of his original prints was super interesting, I hope he explores that more and leans into the surrealist and abstract nature of his “art” lol. Would love to meet him and maybe even take part in the process. Just wish there wasn’t so much waste

this guy... i can't help but identify with tobyn. i'm an artist too, and sometimes it feels like i go overboard when i really like something. i can't ever just do something halfway, i have to go all in. seeing tobyn dedicate his life, his whole world, to this craft, is fantastic. it's reassuring to know that there are people who are even more insane than i am in their art lmao

I really am so happy after watching this video. Just seeing someone express themselves despite it being cringey and seeing how the parents are ok with it. Like seeing this genuinely gives me hope that if I spend enough time doing something I love it can only yield good results. This dudes environment is primed for this sort of thing but it doesn't change the fact that he has done so much. I'm legit inspired.

You guys can’t even hate him, it’s a really impressive art form AND he’s crazy dedicated to it. He puts his appreciation into ACTUALLY doing something, rather than wasting time constantly replaying her part of the game, and I can’t help but want to be his friend

Thank you for making this. I remember seeing videos of his rooms before and how my friends and I were slightly creeped out but that was so closed minded of us and I’m glad to have my narrow biases corrected. He’s an amazing person making art with a dedication that’s so admirable. I honestly hope to see more of what he makes.

The ending of Danganronpa V3 tried warning about this. Joke aside interesting to see what you have to say about The Ultimate Sayaka Fan. I can only imagine what his neighbors think or a repairman going inside the house. Props to Tobyin's for being supportive and very cool his dad wrote the musical Grease. That's so funny thinking about it, the creation of Grease gave us this anime fan content.

The fact that he he's so obsessed with the character that dies first in the game and only appears in the first hours AND HAS NEVER EVEN PLAYED DANGANRONPA (the anime even reduces the characters screentime) makes me kind of impressed. Like whoa, this is another level of dedication. His whole life is basically changed. And I've got to hand it to them: those are some real supportive parents!
