To those who may wonder why there's a temple honoring the military: one of the biggest virtues for the Orthodox person is to sacrifice their life for other people. Therefore the Russian Orthodox Church considers the defence of the homeland from the enemy as a spiritual feat. The military men and women sacrifice themselves in order to protect others.

Mosaics in the temples are an ancient Christian tradition. After the division of the Roman Empire, mosaics became more typical for the churches of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium). Mosaics from the 5th-6th centuries AD have survived to this day in Ravenna, Italy, in Istanbul (Constantinople). The Orthodox Church has preserved the Byzantine tradition of mosaic images.

The entire complex was built in 700 days (1 year and 8 months). The temple is built of Metal and Glass! The steps and metal inserts are made from melted tracks of fascist tanks. The outer walls are lined with copper, processed using electroplating technology (usually used in jewelry). By the way, the mosaic coverage area = 2644 m2. And yet, the metal structures (high-alloy steel) for the domes and the domes themselves are designed for operation.... up to 1500 years))))

Как странны повороты истории. Ваша католическая церковь по религиозным причинам сожгла сотни европейцев на кострах, с именем католической веры, прошла огнем и мечом по новым открытым континентам. The thing is most Soviet soldiers weren't believers at all (and by "most" I mean not a slightly more than a half, I mean that amount of religious people whas all but negligible), and that was one of the reasons they've prevailed - they knew no help or mercy will descend upon them miraculously, it was up to them to save their motherland, they were the only thing that could stop the dark forces that bring death and suffering from reaching the innocent people and their loved ones, and that was a sobering thought that filled them with determination.

Russell, if you haven't yet been to Kronshtadt, I highly recommend. It also has a grand military naval church. Very grand and beautiful

I second that but unfortunately he just missed the celebrations of Russian navy, it's the best time to visit the place since you can see numerous ships and subs in the harbor)

Of course we have old churches. We are less than 300 years old, but some Spanish missions date back to the 1700s. We have the Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery. It was established by 6 monks who arrived here in to the Arizona desert in 1996. Today it houses monks from all over the world and people can visit when they’re not on praying time. Great thing is it’s till free and the monastery look nice. Insides decorated with murals and art.

That has to be the most incredible place on earth. Definitely a must see and visit for my wife and I when we visit Moscow very soon. Can you tell how you would get there coming from central Moscow?
@TravellingwithRussell3 ай бұрын
You can catch a train from Belorussky railway station, and then from there get a bus from Golitsyno station.

You can also take a taxi from Metro Kuntsevskaya, if don't feel like taking a train. Kuntsevskaya is easily reached from the very center on the dark blue Metro line.

The simplest thing is carsharing. In addition to the temple and the museum, there are many other wonderful places in the park, and it is very convenient to travel by car, there are huge distances. There is a unique tank museum in the park with unique exhibits, such as the super-heavy Mouse tank. If carsharing is not available for you, use taxi, it very cheap in Moscow.

@@KlounAda taxis seem to be a good option. What do you think a taxi would cost from central Moscow ie Red Square to the Military park and Cathedral

Well spoken Russel, imagine, only in the 90s, 5M people died in the chaos, I find it crazy that some sofa warriors in the West think they can take on this nation, utter madness. It was a wonderful tour, my favourite church without a doubt in RU.

What a beautiful church. It's a Russian Orthodox Church. They are very similar to my religion which is Roman Catholic. I Googled it. I would feel very comfortable Praying in there. 🙏

There used to be a 20-minute video on YT, in which former Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, on whose initiative this temple was built, talks in great detail about each stage of its construction, the ideas, symbols, materials used, means, step by step. But on YT I have not found this video, apparently, it was removed.
