Welcome to Florida. I've passed through all these towns you drove through from one time or another. The common thread between all of them other than Graceville is that they were all railroad towns. And as you saw, some have faired better than others over the years after the importance of the railroad dwindled.

Hi Joe and Nicole, If you want to go south, go to Florida. If you want to go to the deep south, go to the Panhandle and North Florida. I've lived and worked most all my life in Florida and the people are the best in the rural north. My family lives from Apalachicola to Fort Walton and have visited all those communities you've shown. It does seem to be growing steadily these days but the people don't like it. I'm leaving for there in a few days and will return home after Christmas. While it can get downright chilly at times in winter, it's usually 65* to 70* this time of year but spring comes early. Have a great time and Cairo, Georgia used to be an interesting town with its Egyptian Date Palms.

It's a rainy morning here in California, so it's nice to spend a little virtual time in a sunnier clime with you. I love visiting rural Florida, especially the natural springs like the one at Ponce De Leon State Park. As you say, the coastal areas are overwhelming with the crowding, traffic and development. For a taste of "the old days", I recommend the book "Selling The Sunshine State". Happy trails!

One thing I noticed in all of these small downtowns was how clean they were. No trash on the streets at all. No homeless people camped out either. They were all pretty nice all in all. Thanks for the tour. 🙂

I couldn't agree more with Joe when he said, "When it's a major endeavor just to go to the store, it takes the fun out of living somewhere". I'm 50 years old and i live in a city that used to be average population. But over the last 2 years, we've had an influx of retiree move here and now the town is completely unmanageable. Just going 5 minutes to the store now takes major planning and over 30 minutes of driving. Now i know why people move to North Dakota or West Virginia when they get older. I don't plan on putting up with that crap for much longer before i get the hell out of here.
@cindytrayer427947 минут бұрын
Agree. I’m in SWFL and we all know what’s happening here. The overcrowding, overdevelopment , poor infrastructure and influx of people at such a fast rate definitely decreases the quality of life. The major thing I think about at this point is if I sell my house there’s no coming back, with the insane prices of real estate.

Live in East Orange County Fl, next to Orlando. This reminds me of what Orlando looked like in the sixties. If I ever had to sell out North Florida looks attractive. Cost are low and retired I do not need to look for employment. But how are the medical care, grocery stores and hospitals. Every thing in life is a trade off.
@RobOlgatree3 сағат бұрын
Big Hospitals will be in Pensacola, Ft Walton Beach, Tallahassee and Panama City Beach. Publix and Winn-Dixie grocery stores are found in the bigger towns but Piggy Wiggly most everywhere. Trade-off not as bad as you might think except its deep south rural.

@@RobOlgatree I know and have lived in that culture. Living in a big diverse multi cultural and ethnic community for decades has changed me for the better. I could adjust fairly easily. Right now my home is paid off and my kids grand kids live close by making it hard to make the move. But if I lost my home Orlando is too expensive for me now. And I make a low six figure income.

Twice higher??? I've gotta ask. I've been following your videos for years and I LOVE them. Love them. ❤❤❤ But, why do you always say "twice higher"? Is that some sort of colloquial vernacular that you grew up with in Oklahoma or Utah? I've never ever heard anyone else say that but you (and I'm from Colorado). "Twice as high" is the technical and grammatical standard according to every source I've referenced. Not criticizing, just genuinely curious where that unusual expression comes from.
