Thanks Chris, I think this format is more instructive: the step by step explanation is great. The flip side is that this is more intense, and I guess I like to occasionally see the more relaxed timelapse video.

I struggle drawing stick figures. I have done your pear and almost done with the cow you have here. I’m blown away that I am ACTUALLY doing this. I’m in tears. Yes, I like this format. Discussing to this depth the process of adding color in decreasing amounts builds dimension is a great concept to reinforce. The application of this principle has broad application. Further, it doesn't hurt that we raise cattle so will use this YT again as I paint our bovine subjects. Thanks.

Loved this video. I struggle with color a lot. I didn't see the greens and yellows in the shadows until you pointed it out. Also, how do you know when you've got enough layers? As I was watching the video I thought "wow, that looks so much better". Then you'd add even more. How do you know when to stop? Thanks for all the lessons 👍

Definately liked this! For me the hard part is to see the second, third, fourth step of (big) shapes. The first is clear: dark values vs light but as you progress, I find it harder to see why you paint a certain shape as one shape. I think it might be helpful if you could sometimes show where the shape is in the reference but more importantly, explain why you see it as one shape. Again, for me I go from big clear, well defined shapes straight to shapes I actually see... I feel part of what you do is not always: what do we see but more defining value planes because that makes sense/ follows the form. PS later on I start finding my feet again with the shapes you put in but it's those steps in between that I find hard to follow. THanks for the instructive vid as always! Great work, love your channel

Yes lots of still lifes. This will help understanding Visual elements Paint in black&white, blue & white, black-blue white This will get you going on figuring out tonal values. Without these there is no point in painting realism. Copy the works of other artists. This way you can get ideas on how to approach a subject. Use pinterest app for paintings of other painters. Checkout David leffel videos

Your new teaching method is thé best by far Only ... can you indicate more clearly whére to look exactly what you are talking about: I often kind of 'lost it' for a few secs when you were changing subject Of course, I can (and wíll for sure) repeat untill I get your message immediately but that takes (unnecessary) time ... Just say clearly where to look when you change subject. But this is only a very small problem, this is normal when beginning something new... Overall: definitely thé best method ever: very, very instructive, Thanks a lot Chris

@@claygreen4723 That's the obvious suggestion. I am very interested in art, so a lot of videos about painting show up. I see quite a few just to see what passes for art instruction these days. Unfortunately, most of these "teachers" really do not know much, certainly not as much as they think they do. My suggestion to all art students is to look for better teachers, and the best ones are in the museums, not here on youtube.
