Walking has been a game-changer for me from a weight loss perspective (although I usually don’t hit 20k steps.) I worked a stressful sedentary job up until March of this year. Exercise was usually sporadic and intense, which resulted in a revolving door of small injuries. I quit that job, went part time over the summer at a yoga studio, and quit running and lifting heavy. I’m not saying those things aren’t good for you, but I found myself always sore, on injury rest and completely insatiable. So I just started walking almost daily. I’ve dropped over 20 lbs by doing this because I can actually keep it up. There’s no real warm up/cool down required, so there’s no time to talk myself out of it. It doesn’t require driving to a gym or use of special equipment, so I lace up my shoes, put on a podcast, and go. And I don’t find it increases my appetite, so I just eat when I’m hungry, which isn’t all the time anymore (I probably average the “challenging but achievable” 10k-12k per day, so 20k might make me hungrier!) It’s been pretty consistent for a few months, and the yoga helps with flexibility and strength from a bodyweight standpoint. I’m back at a full time desk job again but get my walks in first thing in the morning!

Hey Kate that’s great news! I’m glad to hear how beneficial walking has been for you. I’ve always loved to walk too. I know I measured my weight here but it was only for the experiment of the video. In general ill always walk because I just love walking as it feels good and is good for us :) .

I read a long time ago that the body is far more efficient at burning calories when walking then when running which basically means you lose more calories running the same distance than walking it.
@JadesFitnessBucketList
@JadesFitnessBucketList 2 ай бұрын
@@georgecarlin2656 yeh i read that too! It’s quite interesting because the body burns more fat when walking but more carb ( free glucose in the bloodstream) when running

Recently realised how little I walk. I used to walk consistently ~7k steps every day due to work. Cue getting a car and covid, then it absolutely plummeted. Trying to get fitter again and came across HR zones and how important zone 2 activity was, never had a clue. Used to do sprints a lot and I think I undervalued how beneficial the walking was. Daily(ish) walks are back on the cards now though :D

I guess the difference with that tribe, is that after that excersise we can easily access food, refill the spent calories + some extra.
@JadesFitnessBucketList
@JadesFitnessBucketList 2 жыл бұрын
Yeh exactly that! I also find in a way this is what happens to me travelling. I walk more but don’t refuel with more food as sometimes it’s more of a pain to get it or I have to pay with foreign currency or my card doesn’t work etc and so I just eat when I can abroad haha

I am curious aren't you considered an athlete, I figure since your already in fairly good shape, example you could run a mile in 6:30 1600 meters. So in effect your body doesn't burn calories as quickly you would essentially build muscle which is usually heavier. So in order to lose weight you have to target those areas that you want to lose weight in. For me it took me six months to lose 20 lbs walking 10-15 thousand steps, now I haven't been able to lose possibly stress and lack of a schedule.

Hey thanks for your comment and wow I wouldn’t consider myself an athlete but tbh we use that word so loosely now, for example people who model sportswear are considered ‘athletes’ so not sure. Yeh I could run a mile in that time but as fitness enthusiast with muscle, muscle burns calories faster than fat so surely I would have a higher metabolism? I think in my personal case I eat a LOT of food and running cardio definitely makes me feel hungrier so I consume over 4000 calories a day, which i know is probably too much for me. Congrats on your weight loss and good luck for the rest of it, 🙌🙌

I sadly have to walk over 20k every day cuz of work. In protection boots. Not fun..result? Feet, and ankles wrecked

Hey, so sorry to hear that… yeh when you have to do it because of external factors such as work, the lack of autonomy takes the joy from it. Especially if it’s hurting your feet. Sorry to hear that 😢

I shadow box to replace walking... don’t mind walking it’s just boring walking alone. 20000 steps is bada** though, I’m sure rarely anyone is doing that nowadays.

Exercise makes most people less hungry, (i walk 20k steps a day and track my diet and never get more hungry). When, i first started this in 2021, i lost 3 dress sizes in 6 weeks, doing my usual diet and walking 20k steps. I went from a size 14 to an 8 and have stayed this way ever since. Sorry but your info is crap.

well done on your weight loss! thats great it worked for you. Your 'evidence' is anecdotal like mine is where i have made a video recounting my personal experience. Perhaps if you considered the topic a little more you would see that your story and mine can both be true because of an endless list of other factors such as genetics, age, life patterns such as hours of sleep, stress, mental health etc which all formulate in this, not to mention starting weight and muscle mass etc

@JadesFitnessBucketList I've just discovered (from one of the vegan docs on youtube) that your experience is the norm when eating processed foods or animal products of any kind I've been plant exclusive since 2017. During the time I mentioned above, I was eating 1500 calories per day.
@Goodbyeeveryonehere
@Goodbyeeveryonehere 9 ай бұрын
Also, what's termed a weight "plateau" doesn't happen when eating plant-exclusive. Reason being that plant-exclusive diets contain absolutely no rich foods, for example I eat complex carbs abd vegetables nothing else and drink only water (I'm fructose intolerant so no fruit). Plateaus only occur because a person is still eating foods too rich for their body. I went from 260 pounds in 2020 to 126 pounds In 2022 without any staying the same or gaining. 1st 2 weeks 7 pounds each, next 4 months 4 pounds a week and the rest 2 pounds til it all went. Don't worry about water weight. It's still motivating to see numbers changing.
