In Australia we have to bring our own bags to put our groceries in, if you forget you have the option to purchase a plastic bag, reusable bag or paper bag (which will always bust open). The result is practically every home in Australia having a very large collection of reusable bags that we never use 😅

Same in Canada, go in for something small, forget the bags, leave with too much to carry. It's really just so the big food stores can make more profit, the bag tax.

Common sense is confusing to a majority of the people in charge of making Canada the way it is today. Thanks for giving me a giggle in these times!
@macmac1022 Жыл бұрын
Allow me to explain why there is no common sense anymore. I have to get into some psychology for this, its not a short comment. The common sense is lost because most people just rely on fast mind and the slow conscious more accurate mind hardly gets used and gets no practice. ( i never used calculators in school even though it was allowed because it robs you or working your brain muscle) This explanation more so though explains why politicians like turdo cant answer any questions that show his errors. If you have 12 minutes the first basic part I will go over is about fast/slow thinking. If you want there is a 12 minute video by veritasium called "the science of thinking" that will explain it very well. I think this is knowledge that can really benefit people if they do not know about it. The next part though I dont know any videos for and I dont know if anyone really had the idea I have before. The knowledge of the fast/slow mind is what is relevant from that video and I think a good starting point for the discussion. The video also gives examples of people doing it live, but it most likely will work on you as well so that is how I will show you. I am going to ask you a question, and I am going to predict the answer you will have pop in your mind at first, and predict that will be a wrong answer. This works on most people and you can try if for yourself on others to see too, its an interesting conversation starter. A bat and a ball together cost 1.10, the bat costs 1.00 more then the ball, how much did the ball cost? You might have an answer flash in your head right away with fast inaccurate fast mind but if you check that answer with your slow but more accurate conscious awareness, you can see that answer is wrong but it takes effort to do. The answer of ten cents is not the right answer but most people have that pop in their head because of the fast thinking mind that we rely on most of the time. The fast unconscious mind is taking everything in and trying to make sense of it really fast. Its 11 million bits a second. But sometimes it makes mistakes. The slow conscious mind is 40-50 bits and lazy but it can check things and bringing the unconscious mistake to conscious awareness it can correct it. The next thing to understand is about carl jung and the 4 ways the unconscious complex he called shadow deals with reality. The shadow is an unconscious complex that is defined as the repressed and suppressed aspects of the conscious self. there are constructive and destructive types of shadow. Carl jung emphasized the importance of being aware of shadow material and incorporating it into conscious awareness lest one project these attributes onto others. The human being deals with the reality of shadow in 4 ways. Denial, projection, integration and/or transmutation. Now I believe what is happening when a question that exposes a conflict in a belief, idea, something that someone said, or even about someone they idolize and the question gets avoided, that is the fast unconscious mind going into denial and the response is often a projection. This also can trigger and emotional response activating the amygdala more and the pre frontal cortex less where rational conscious thought is said to happen and the amygdala starts to get the body to flood itself with chemicals/hormones. Its like the fast mind knows conscious awareness will say its wrong. so it blocks it off to defend itself from admitting its wrong. in cases of denial and because it blocked off the rational mind, the responses are often irrational. Like personal attacks do not address the issue or answer the question. I think we can agree people have a very hard time now days admitting when they are wrong, I am not except from this myself I do realize. And we can see how badly questions avoidance effects us if you watch political meetings and watch them avoid questions all day long. Ok, so the first thing to go over is denial as that is the main one I expose with questions. A disowning or refusal to acknowledge something I think is a good definition for it here. There is a really good 2 minute video I use as an example of this. A streamer named vegan gains claiming lobsters have brains after some one said he can eat lobsters because they do not have brains. He googles it and starts to read what it says. When he gets to the part where is says neither insects nor lobsters have brains, he skips it and says they literally are insects then skips over that line and continues to read the rest. Just like in the fast thinking video, his fast mind already read that line and refused to acknowledge it in unconscious denial, and just skipped it. The person then tells him he skipped it and he reads it again and sees the line this time. Still being defensive of his claim and refusing to accept he was wrong, he tried to discredit the source and its the lobster institute of maine. If you would like to see the video for yourself its 2 minutes by destiny clips and the video is called " Destiny Reacts To Vegan Gains Ignoring Search Result That Contradicts Him". Justin turdo avoiding the question of how much his family was paid by the we charity 6 times in a row I think is denial as well. I think jordan peterson not being able to answer his own question of does he believe god exists and asking what do and you mean then saying no one knows what any of those words mean while being seemingly angry is think is another really good example of denial... and projection. And while JP find those words difficult, other people understand them easy. Even he does pretty much any other time they are used. So projection is next up. Psychological projection is a defense mechanism people subconsciously employ in order to cope with difficult feelings or emotions. Psychological projection involves projecting undesirable feelings or emotions onto someone else, rather than admitting to or dealing with the unwanted feelings. Many times a mind in denial will use projections for responses. Someone getting mad and telling the other person to not interrupt when they have been doing that a lot themselves would be an example. I have done this myself. The people who tell me I dont understand my own questions and my point is wrong when they do not even know what the point is are all examples as well. I ask them to steel man my position to show then understand my point and they just avoid that question as well clearly showing they do not understand my point. Now we have integration and/or transmutation. Integration is when you bring an unconscious behavior into conscious awareness and accept it. I know that I interrupt people talking sometimes even though I think that is wrong to do. I have a conscious awareness of it, but I have not been able to completely change the behavior.... yet. That is where transmutation comes in. Transmutation is to completely change that unconscious behavior. From being impatient to being patient, of from distrust to trust, hate into understanding and love even. So was this understandable or confusing? if you understand it, do you think its possibly true? Do you have any questions? If you have any tips I am would gladly listen.

Lol most of the psychology theory you spew hasn't been acceptable in their industry in over 40 years lol!!! No psy doc uses Jung or Freud. Lol your estimate of skoe mind thinking based on what? Visual information alone gathers way more than 11 million bits. Just focusing on reading you'll have a 6 to 8 letter spread thats clear without blurring letters typical font size held forearms length away, the spaces in between, the two colors making up the background and letters. Lol thats a lot more than 40 to 50 bytes. Lol anything that compares brain to computer bytes was from computer science not psychology as the Brain simply does not work like a binary computer. Your bat ball example doesn't have enough information but most typically would assume it be ten cents which would be the default correct answer as you never said bought as a set and as a bat ball set typically rare to be sold together. Open choice questions that is ones with incomplete information answers will always defer to what's common sense to fill in the gaps of information. Also most people if it was commonly sold as a set would then answer if sold separate the ball would cost more.

@@macmac1022 oops see my comment below. This is a continuation. Common sense is not a national thing and in fact exists in usually in just tiny groups. When it comes to politics while the party may spew its policies liners out not even those running together will be in total agreement. Individual mind picks chooses what will benefit them. Absolutely nothing to do with slow versus fast thinking. As soon as you started argument on why no common sense based on this video and Trudeau comments you actually proved there's no common sense among large groups. Lol conservatives liberals NDP etc none have an overwhelming majority this there's no common sense among people. This applies urban vs suburb vs rural etc. A farmers common sense is well common among farmers in areas of agriculture they're commonly associated together in. Even then there's lots of contention. Lol wheat board vs free sale fight for example. To have any kind of thing to mean common sense firstly of must be a subject common to the group and the group in agreement that thats how things should and will be. Difficult to form large groups that way unless the common property defining it it kept minimal so all understand. Truckers started off that way but in the end became splintered because they had too many separate concerns on the plate. In conclusion the very concept of common sense as is implied here rarely happens in late groups. A persons very idea of cold mmin sense depends solely on what group(s) they've been exposed to and experiences they have. Other words what they've sensed. Lol common sense is just a person's way of saying should etc be that way because this is what I experienced and in support of. Last point ( I have any more ) is common sense in large groups usually is theoretical at forest and usually doesn't meet all in groups expectations if the ideas agreed upon in theory come to actual application. What draws people together in commonness is almost always something thats a general concept or thing with little specifics given. Specifics are for application. If its morals politics business sports etc thererpl always be drastic differences in the group and what's general among them will be thematically general. Morals politiucs religion and application of law are great examples. Obvious common sense to not knowingly cause someone to die but then what are the penalties for it? Long prison sentence or death? If jail corporal punishment or not? General population held or not? How long and so on. Common sense of yesteryears went from max death penalty to 25 years plus ( first degree ) with if more than one murder any additional sentencing ran concurrent to just a few years ago to allowing a second sentence to run consecutive. even how a prisoner is treated like Bernardo going to medium. This is an infamous serial killer rap artist of teen girls which common sense would say he'd be in protective custody for life as general population prisoners would kill him. Common sense ideology of kiddie killers and deviants will die in jail or at the least be tortured is a theoretical as usually nothing happens to them. Very little in reality application of they shouokd dir etc gets dine. Bernardo got the transfer because he was of good behavior in general population. Was only first two years he was in protective custody. Not even be prisoner has attacked him. Putting him back in max only is political stance based on common outrage It was media and political driven and as with the bat ball set up exasmole not enough info given to formulate a well founded opinion. Its noit fast vs slow thinking. Its lack of information. Lack of information common sense is something politics mass media etc loves to do in a way that at the least infers to the receiver of it some kind of information that plays with their emotions and not to their brains. In fact almost all common sense things are emotions experienced based. Common sense occurs only if people care about it. Most don't care about Bernardo and factt is prison is prison. Him going back to max only serves to appease the emotions of the little public that do care. Most that do care don't care based on criminal punishment but fact it was a faux pas for minister not knowing about it or brimng informed in a way he should've known about it. Common sense in the rmd is actually quite uncommon. Hagn

As I live in Justin Trudeau’s city (Ottawa/Gatineau QC), my major frustration is the almost endless redevelopment projects … for the overpaid government workers can take their $2,000+ (Often electric) bicycles to their barely justifiable high paying jobs. MOSTLY ALL of these ‘multi year’ road construction projects are for… BIKE LANES! So most of the traffic congestion (think sitting cars, pollution!) is for all of these under utilized (or under construction) bike lanes for overpaid workers who only go to work these days, 2-3 times a week (Covid. Remember?) and are only used by a few… if the weather is sunny … or its not f’n cold or wet (Fall/Winter. Remember?). And being a government town, NONE of these projects are rushed, or are financially monitored for accountability! This is the absolute WORST city for all of these … ‘Look at me, I’m doing something to save the environment’ projects! The amount of financial waste in THIS city is absolutely ludicrous! It almost makes me want to start a small construction company… except I don’t know Justin Trudeau or any of his friends or went to school or skied with him. But that’s another problem for another day. Maybe I should join you guys over in Saskatchewan and get back to our deep Canadian roots… like farming. The government surely can’t be intervening with you guys… right? Thanks for sharing your thoughts QDM. I need to have a beer with you sometime. Cheers.

A number of years ago, I took my son to a U of S Huskies football game. I walked up to the teller, who was university student, said I wanted an adult ticket and a youth ticket and I had coupon for a couple dollars off. I don’t remember what the prices were but I believe I gave her $40. The teller was confused trying to enter the coupon in to the cash register. After a couple of minutes of it not working she was looking down into the cash drawer and I could tell she was trying to figure out the change. Then she looks at me and asks me how much change she should give me. I told her and she gave it to me. I couldn’t believe it. Simple BASIC math and this university student couldn’t do it.

I feel for you on running your Mandako roller into a fence line. My nemesis was a SaskTel telephone pedestal. SaskTel had, maybe still does, habit of putting underground lines across a farmer's field where ever the dang well feel like. Back in 74/75 SaskTel was replacing party lines in rural Saskatchewan and went up 34 and 35 about 100m into the field, rather than along the property line, unlike AGT in Alberta back in the day that went along the property line. T'was making summerfallow up on 35 in 76 and managed to get the cultivator around the pedestal, but cut back too quickly and caught the pedestal and the wooden post with the round hopping harrows. Luckily I only bent the pedestal over and only pulled the post out. Went back and told my uncle what I had done. His attitude was F#*K IT! SaskTel only got permission to put the line in once they were halfway up the field!. Went in with an idiot stick and dug a hole next to the pedestal and replace the fence post. No harm no foul!

@@ermagerd101 A close friend in Calgary termed it to me & it suits, so I use it. With the clowns in Toronto and Ottawa it is not even close to a 3 ring circus. It's no wonder the rest of the country has a hate on for Ontario

@@kenmurray4232 I think it would be a great place if the politicians weren't there.

I've had the pleasure of listening to Gormly's show on 980 out of Regina when I've gone between BC and my hometown of Winnipeg...the man is filled with common sense, wish we had that kinda voice out here in BC

this happened to me last week to me at the grocery store. paying in cash is damn near speaking a foreign language to them, and using change - you might as well be an alien.

I had this exact same thing happen at Timmys the other day. They had a sign in the drive through window saying they needed change. Coffee came to $3.29. So I gives the youngen a 20 bill with a quarter and a nickel. I told her she could keep the penny. She sighs, hands me the 30 cents back with a very confused look on her face... then goes to the cash drawer and fetches me 16 in bills and 71 in change. After she hands it to me, I ask "you still need change?" She says sure... so I return the 71 cents she gave me and then added the 30 cents I initially offered to her. Then I says "trade you for a dollar bill." She thanks me and completes the transaction. Pretty sure she had no clue what had just happened.
