Gorgeous photos as always. The pano and the night photo of the stars were beautiful. I quite like the star trails. But I gotta say I absolutely loved the rock island photo. The framing, colors, and the smoothness of the water makes it look like a painting rather than a photo.

Thanks Lina! It’s fun to revisit locations in different again and shoot them in dramatically different ways. Lake Shikotsu is one of my favorite places to shoot.

It looked like you had a relaxing camping trip Shaun - always good for the soul! Great pano and the light from Venus was unbelievable! As for star trails, that's all personal preference I guess. I think there are some limitations to the 500, especially with modern cameras. Have you considered the alternative NPF rule? Not easy to calculate manually, but if you have an app like PhotoPills, it'll take into account your lens, apperture and your star trail preference. Completely understand you not wanting to record at the end. Sometimes, it's so much nicer to be in the moment and enjoy the peace without stressing about filming 🙂

@@shaunkeenanphoto Hey Shaun, I'm always happy to comment. You put a lot of effort into making the video, so I think it's the least I can do after watching 🙂 I have done a little bit of astro, but not anywhere near as much as I'd like - I just can't will myself to stay out late enough! If it's something you'd like to do more of, I highly recommend PhotoPills - I think it's hands down the best app for astro. You can plan locations, shots etc but also check sunrise and sunset directions and times in unknown places (all over the world), which is what I use it mainly for. Enjoy your week ahead!
