Great line of questioning. Overall a good interview sumiko !

This interview perfectly captures not just Magnus Carlsen's competitive mindset but also his humble and down-to-earth personality. Thanks, Sumiko, for such an insightful conversation with the legend himself! 👏♟

I love that Magnus said the same thing about classical chess that Bobby Fishcer did in his old interview. Chess has become a game of memory. It is all about who can memorize the most. That is why I made Fischer Random/ chess960/Freestyle chess so that there can be 'fun' in the game again.

LOL. People salty about the fact that Magnus is still "World Champion." He is, and he would be like 5-1 or 4.5-1.5 after game 6 in the current match against either Ding or Gukesh, given the mistakes they are making. He crushed Nepo who was in-form and flawless till game 6.

Fisher Random should be introduced for GM and IMs in the classical match. All sorts of openings have played already and there is no creativity left in the opening. In today's world championship match R6, approximately 20 moves were played just with opening preparation. Their creativity starts in middlegame where all theory has ended, and if someone hasn't memorized openings properly then the opponent will get the advantage in the middlegame.

Your newness to chess is definitely showing in this comment, yeah. There are times when he can be irritable, but most of the time his condescension is actually cheekiness. He's generally very good humoured and likeable, and easygoing away from stressful tournaments.
