I would really love Vanillaware to tackle a turn based RPG next very similar style to UO even using the aspects and battle system just with us having more control over the party.

I love the Ogre Battle gameplay style personally and wouldn't want them changing it in a sequel. I'd like to see more variance elsewhere in the game akin to the mining areas and the arena. If it is about another war then i would also like to see the enemy go on the offensive against you and necessitate defensive battles. It was kinda silly that Galarius just lets us do what we want. We should have to fight Berengaria at least 2-3 times in Cornia before we recruit her IMO. It'd let them reuse maps too if we had to go and defend a place from a Zenorian counter attack. I could write a list for hours on what I want so I'll leave it at that.

I appreciate that they finally directly told people the difficulty flow was designed to be low stress. Granted, we have a specific worry now. They succeeded with this game, which means they have even more money to run out of for the next one..inflation may just bring us Unicorn Overdrive sooner. Also, no PC port, but they didn't say no to a PS Vita port! (It was apparently a Vita game at some point)

Next to Odin Sphere, Unicorn Overlord is my favorite game they have ever created. So much love and care went into it. Would be ecstatic to get a sequel.

Very nicely written article. After finishing the game for a few runs, personally I don't really need any new DLC or a sequel but of course if they going to make it would great as well. I would prefer new Vanillaware game to continue with these kind of vibe and also hopefully will be another similar strategy RPG game. Vanillaware doesn't do PC ports could most likely that they don't really want any sort of changes ever made to their game. Any PC ports are famous getting all sort mods. Some seem good but many of them to me is insulting to the game designer, graphic designer and many more that worked on the games. I seen so many ridiculous mod designs.

things i would like to see for dlc do note i haven't beatent he game yet i am on the ice area dwarfs, more classes/characters for the non humans or they could be reskin of human classes or something i just want an all elf team damn it or beastal endgame dwarfs more objections for battles most of the fights were just take this main base before time runs out more interaction with terrain or the battlefield maybe monsters like orcs and goblins for an endgame dungeon but that would take too much time and money dwafts

I'm just glad they decided to put Unicorn Overlord on Switch. Been wanting to play Dragon's Crown for a long time but that's locked to Playstation and I don't own that system. Be great if Vanillaware eventually brought a collection of their games to PC though since it seems like most companies are moving away from console exclusives but that could still be a long way off if it ever happens. Bought the game on a sale recently and have put in around 80 hours in the past few weeks cause I'm so enthralled by it and already looking forward to a second playthrough to see how different I can make my combat units work using generics.

I'll be honest I enjoyed them being open with the information. I played Tactics Ogre Reborn around this time last year and had to watch you and Coffee Potato constantly to figure out the weird nuances of the game to do the harder dungeons. Meanwhile with Unicorn Overlord I struggled here and there but if i needed info it was there I didnt have to go trawling through the internet to find out how X affects Y when Z is in play.

Just started playing the game. I do love the game. I have a lot of hopes too. I really wish for a more difficult and/or more complex game play (outside the tactics, of course). Also, the story could be good.

With even amazing directors like Yoshi-P of Final Fantasy saying (when asked if Square Enix would be making a new Final Fantasy Tactics) to go play Unicorn Overlord... If they DON'T make a new one they are missing a huge momentum wave

Whatever they make, I hope it's to the quality of Unicorn Overlord (and in strategy RPG genre). It's a great game. Shame they seem to avoid PC (thankfully I have a Switch and it's on that). Japanese devs have been coming around to the idea that PC gamers are, more than willing to buy and play their games. I think Dark Souls was one of the major titles that got the ball rolling, I hope Vanillaware see the light at some point, especially being a smaller studio the extra money, especially long term with Steam sales would be good for them. The cost of porting is probably smaller than the return.

Vanillaware is my absolute favorite and it leaves me conflicted. If they did a sequel, I know they'd do it right and implement the stuff they didn't have time to. But at the same time I love that they polish a product to a point they are proud of it and then move on to do it all again with something completely different! Either way I'd be happy to see more from them whatever they choose to do!

You can hope for the both of us. I'm going to trust the evidence regarding George. No PC releases, ever. Extremely limited DLC for any Vanillaware game. One-and-done approach to all IP. The man does what he wants, and no one can stop him: not Atlas and not even Sega. Frustrating. I've been holding out a faint hope for a Dragon's Crown PC release for nearly a decade and its time to let it go. The man is stubborn down to his very bones.

While I agree with you I think then guy got bitter when the only project he ever had plans for a sequel was a failure and the Ip holder/publisher would never give him another go now they have the aproach of do the best complete experience even if you have to reboot the project a number times to ensure that you put everything you want in a project even if the money ends because who knows if the money people of the publisher will ever let you get another shot. Muramasa got a DLC after a re-release I think if Unicorn Overlord got one of those Takafumi Noma would put more stuff becuse he is an artist and a programmer so he could put more there himself.

My only gripe with the game is there is no new game + option and we don’t get a necromancer class unit. The Necromancer doesn’t even need to be Balto or whatever his name was. It could be a new unique character or even a recruitable mercenary. And the Necromancer can summon undead similar to the Mercenary class summoning mercenary NPCs on the map.

First game was by far my GOTY for 2024 and I want a sequel *SO FREAKING BAD* And I've recommended the game to a bunch of people and a lot of them said the game looks great, but they only game on PC these days. Not having any plan for releasing a PC port in _current year_ really does seem foolish I hate to say. When I originally downloaded the demo of Unicorn Overlord, I was expecting something more like Tactics Ogre where you go from battle to battle. When I found out there was an overworld you could explore, that is what sold me and I bought the game right after the fight with Aubin, lol.

Personally I would love to see its ideas to be replicated by others, this style of game has a lot more potential. With maybe a better story or better world building, even in an already established world.

Unicorn overlord is my goty but im also a big vanillaware fan. I dont need dlc or a sequel personally. This feels like a progression of 13 sentiels combat. If theyre doing an action rpg next, Im hoping their next game is multi character stories like 13 sentiels that kinda weave your party into battle in a fantasy setting like unicorn. But ill gladly support anything they do

UO is custom made sequel material (or like you said something set in the world), we need clarity on the land the large lady comes from and/ or the bad guys come from (wasteland rather...) as well! The game got screwed in the game awards, the art direction is SPECTACULAR. But I won't get you started there lol.

Like Austin wrote, It would certainly bolster their sales. PC is great for SRPG's. And it's not like Atlus is gatekeeping- cause they have multiple games on there too. There really ISN'T a reason why they wouldn't do PC ports. Matter of fact, they should be doing this for ALL their games. Muramasa and all it's DLC is still stuck inside the PSVITA for crying out loud.

I loved Unicorn Overlord and hope there is a sequel. But I felt UO was too long and hope the sequel is a bit shorter, which is rare for sequels today. That should also save Vanillaware some money.
