@@EstebanBrenesV I mean, it's filler, so... In the manga, his sword got rusted in a frame somewhere (no big deal was made about it, iirc), but that's it. You can assume Zoro just punched the shit out of him or something, wouldn't be the first time (remember the skyshark? xD).

@AecoYT here is the big thibg with "filler" that is a concept that the west built not any japanese anime, this kind of details specially at the time those episodes where out where not placed just randomly, specially in one piece, (mind you several things that people thought Oda forgot but actually he didnt, I dont want to give details because spoilers at just 320 episodes) certain abilities where not clear for the audience yet but for oda they where.

@@EstebanBrenesV Oda does not generally work on anime episodes, he mostly just answers feedback when it's relevant. He's way too busy to do any more than that on a regular basis. There are even contradictions in Wano in the anime because the anime crew did not ask for certain details. Anyway, the point was that there is 0 evidence that the rust fruit paralyzes anyone or would be effective against Zoro aside from surprising him because it's particularly effective against steel, leading to the loss of his sword.

usopps connection to the merry is all that you mentioned but also that back in water seven he saw himself in merry as a now "useless" member of the crew while all the others just get stronger as well. Which was also why he couldnt experience luffys first outrage upon hearing the news. Luffy tried to be light hearted about it to lessen his guilt about the money loss but in turn it seemed like members like him could just be thrown out without a hint of sadness about it Now after this whole arc of the crew demonstrating they would give their lives for one of them no matter what and him also being essential to that rescue and far from useless, Going Merry being the one to save them too is the pinnacle of that story plot. Every member of the crew is worth the world and none of them is more or less important than the other

Don't fret man, I saw this scene just this last year and had the same reaction (Sort-of, Ill know for sure next drop.) at the age of 51. I like my stories to have gravitas, stakes, and a connection to the characters that made them matter, but I used to think One Piece was just not gonna be that kinda show. And lets be real here, There was well over a thousand episodes of this and that hill is too large. I saw the live action adaptation and said "You know, maybe I will watch the anime up to this part and watch them in tandem as the live action comes out...." So now I have seen the entirety of the show released to-date and have been picking up manga issues (Nearly caught up). I have a problem. 🤪

Such a great episode. The last moments of the Lucci fight are so incredible. This saga is probably my favorite in the whole series, it really hits different. The rest of the show is still awesome though and it is debatable as far as what arcs are best.
