We got scammed by a lady in a kimono running down those stone stairs up to the ropeway. She invited us for tea at her tiny cafe and chatted our ears off for 30 mins. Her tea was about $12/glass but we weren't shown any prices until about three cups in. She was smooth AF with her operation so we didn't cry about it. This was ~11 years ago, she's probably rich now. Also had a delicious oyster egg bowl at that restaurant at 1:50 and the server had to chase the deer out with a broom. 10/10 would visit again

'The cute deer' Ohh Mudan, sweet innocent Mudan. When my friend and I travelled through Japan last summer, we went to Miyajima too and the deer were, uhm, either extremely friendly or as my friend would say 'hellspawn'. We were eating icecream, when one of the deer decided to start nibbling on my friends t-shirt. When he stood up, the deer quickly snatched his bag (with our Miyajima souvenirs in them) and started swinging it around. With me dying from laughter, a couple of bypassing Australians joining me, my friend struggled valiantly to recover our cheap souvenirs. He did it, but it cost him one of the deer biting his private parts. Needless to say, he is traumatized and I am filled with regret (for not filming this encounter).
